JULY WRAP UP // Going Back to Uni & Slowing Down πŸ“šπŸ₯±πŸŽ¬

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog!

Ooh wow, what to say? It’s been a very long month for me, full of uni work and not much else! I didn’t read much this month and I didn’t watch a lot either! So, you’d think I would’ve been blogging like crazy but sadly I barely posted anything at all, it seems all of my creative energy went out the window in July. I am starting to get my mojo back now though, so I have hope for August and I have officially started planning round 2 of the readathon that I co-host with Destiny! The official dates are October 11 – 19th in your time zone! (@GraphicsAthon)

↣ If you have any thoughts on what you want to see in a readathon, I’d appreciate your input here!

I’ve had a very up and down month in terms of ratings and whether I actually enjoyed what I was reading but, a plus to that is I found a new favourite 5 star read and I already can’t wait to re-read it in the future!! I also, weirdly read mostly blue-green books this month which was wild because one day, I was literally dressed head to toe in blue, next to a stack of blue books while eating a blue cake that I had made (in fairness, I was reading Percy Jackson at the time) and I think that’s honestly very weird but also low-key hilarious. It was unintentional, I swear!

Insomnia Update: I spent the majority of the month going to sleep around 3 in the morning and then waking up a few hours later for class around 8am once Uni started. BUT, thankfully I am now taking Melatonin so I’m starting to get back on track with a sleep schedule and I’m now going to sleep around midnight each night and it’s amazing! I’m still completely exhausted but I do have a lot of sleep to catch up to be fair! πŸ˜‚πŸ’•

MAY WRAP UP πŸ“š | I went from reading every day to an assessment-induced reading slump!

wrapupfeature1

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m showing you all the book I read in May

If March felt like the longest month I’ve ever lived through, and April flew by in a few days then May

My goal this month was low-key to hit at least 20 reads and also to read big books and I’d say I well and truly did that as most of the books I read were over 400 pages and also wow I read a lot this month! I think I’m going to try and slow it down next month so I don’t burn myself out but wow, I don’t know what my wrap up will look like next month because I officially will have no Uni assignment to submit so I’ll… just be reading??? An insane concept tbh.

Also, excuse me if thi spost looks a little bit shaky, I’m still getting used to the new WP editor. I’m not liking it at all so it’s taking me a while to get used to it and understand it!

WHAT I READ IN JANUARY, FEBRUARY + MARCH! // MY READING AT A GLANCE: 2019

Readingataglancejanfebmar_2018feature

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m coming at you with my reading wrap up of the first three months of the year, January, February & March! I’ve managed to read 48 things so far this year so I’m pretty chuffed with my reading progress so far! I’ve read some new favourites and some… others, and I’ve read books from new genres and age groups and I’m super excited to see what my next wrap up looks like since this one was so varied!

MY WATCHING: AT A GLANCE | 2018 #3

Hey Guys! Today I’m coming at you with all the movies and tv shows I watched inΒ July, August & September! I got most of these out from the library or I already owned them but during this quarter of the year I also saw a whole bunch of new release movies at the cinema because I ended up levelling up to a VIP at my local cinema and because of that I get my movie tickets a whole lot cheaper.Β

So, I don’t want you guys to think that I’m mega rich or that I don’t know how privileged I am to be able to see all these films. I know that I watch a lot of movies and I’m okay with that, but at the same time I only really spend my money on food at Uni or movie tickets these days, since my reading life has gone out the window!

[IF YOU WANT TO SEE WHAT I’M WATCHING WHILE I’M WATCHING, YOU CAN CATCH ME ON LETTERBOXD & TVTIME]

So, without further ado, these are all the movies and tv I watched in July, August and September!

MY READING: AT A GLANCE | 2018 #1

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a pretty massive reading wrap up full of beautiful book covers, pie charts and many many star ratings. In December last year I stopped writing my monthly reading wrap ups and so I figured I would still like you guys to know what I’ve been reading and other than my occasional WWW Wednesday posts I figure this is the best way to let you guys know about what I’ve been reading this year.Β

MY 2018 FEMMEUARY WRAP UP!

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with my first kind of wrap up for this year! This month I participated in Femmeuary, you can read about my original plans here!

arrowicon

ALL WRITTEN BY WOMEN

ANTSY #Zenith by Sasha AlsbergΒ  Β Truly Devious by Maureen JohnsonΒ  Β Batman by Marie LuΒ  Β Queens of Geek by Jen WildeΒ  Β Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)Β  Β Jane Eyre

ZENITH / TRULY DEVIOUS / BATMAN / QUEENS OF GEEK / HP 2 / JANE EYRE

I started out the month pretty strong with Zenith – a new release co-written by two women about a badass team of women. You can read my review here.

I then moved onto Truly Devious and Batman: Nightwalker – both written by women.

And then I fell off the wagon, but I don’t feel bad about it because I mostly read books by women anyway, so reading 3Β  books in a row by men was a bit of a fluke for me.

I then ended the month with Queens of Geek, The Chamber of Secrets and Jane Eyre, which I only started 2 days ago and somehow I am almost finished it.

arrowicon

Did I watch anything directed by or about women? Lol, so guess who rarely watches movies unless she’s at the cinema. I honestly had to make an effort to watch any kind of media this month. Is that weird? And all my effort got me was 4 episodes into the Netflix show, Glow (which I really enjoyed). And that’s pretty much it unless you want to be that person who argues that Fifty Shades Freed is an empowering film for women.

I really wanted to watch some other media like Shrek, Belle or Persepolis but, I am really not great at watching tv or movies unless I am properly in the mood to stare at a screen for a fewΒ hours and give myself a headache.

WRAP UPS: SHOULD I CONTINUE? // BOOK CHATS

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a new Book Chat! I haven’t done one of these in many moons but I wanted to discuss this with you guys. Today I wanted to talk to you guys about monthly reading wrap ups!Β

arrowicon

I have been doing monthly reading wrap ups since I started my blog, early last year and for a while this year I was even doingΒ monthly favourites; talking about movies and blogging favourites.

Lately I’ve been contemplating stopping writing my wrap up posts. But, why?

  • They take up a lot of time.
  • They are my least read posts
  • I don’t enjoy reading wrap ups, so why do I write them?
  • They’re not a fun or engaging type of post.

dotbreaker

SO, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

So, if I end up quitting my wrap ups, what should I do? I would still like a way to tell you guys about the books that I’m reading. I was thinking about doing wrap ups every 5 -6 books that I read, like a lot of Booktubers have started to do.

Though I’m not really all that fond of the set out for those posts, so I really want to try and make a different sort of wrap up post.

Do you guys have any idea for how I could write my wrap ups in a more interesting setting? I want to make my wrap ups more fun to write and more fun for you guys t read?

Do you write reading wrap ups? How could I c=imporove my wrap ups for you guys?

July Wrap Up

July Wrap Up | 2017

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with my July wrap up. This month I did a lot better than I was expecting to, though that might have something to do with my sudden need to readathon. This month I participated in the BookTube-A-Thon which I had an absolute blast with, I even did some of the Instagram challenges!

Now, my wrap up for this month is a bit long so I totally understand if you skip to only the books you’re interested in. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and whether you did the BookTube-A-Thon in the comments!

tbr_tbrcheckinfeature1

Lol yeah, I did not do well this month.

The Flash, Vol. 1: Lightning Strikes Twice

Read 01/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†

I am not totally sure how I really felt about this volume. This reminds me a lot of the show, though I have to say I have recently fallen out of love with the series. I had a hard time getting into this volume as I wasn’t really digging the art but as the volume went on I really started to like it. I really enjoyed Godspeed and Avery so I’m hoping to pick up volume 2 soon.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Read 03/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

I just full on fell right back in love with Becky Albertalli’s writing. I’m so glad I chose to re-read this before I picked up Upside, I am now 100x more excited to read it now! Also, this book never fails to reignite my love for Elliott Smith’s music!

Rocket Raccoon & Groot Volume 1

Read 13/07/2017 β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

I really enjoyed this one. This volume was mostly just Rocket and Groot running around the galaxy and having adventures. Also Fantasy Football but for real…

I will definitely be picking up volume 2 soon!

100 Sideways Miles

Β Read 15/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

I added this book to my tbr shelf (both physical and GR) way back when I first made my Goodreads account (early 2014) and when I was first introduced to Andrew Smith’s books. So it’s crazy to me that I have only got to this now, three years later. I only own three of Smith’s books, two down, one to go.

I really enjoyed this one, but I still think Grasshopper Jungle is my favourite…it’s just so weird. I must say I have missed how strange Smith’s works are and I am really excited to read his short story in BYLTHM and to eventually read Winger.

Rocket Raccoon & Groot Volume 2

Read 19/07/2017Β β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

NOPE NOPPITY NOPE WHAT THE ACTUAL F**K

This series held such a high place in my mind and then this happened. This comic is part of a whole other series and as far as I’m concerned it can get the hell out. I came here for Rocket and Groot space shenanigans, not Gwenpool (one of my least favourite comic characters) or the Civil War II series.

ALSO I don’t think I have ever detested a character more than I have Gwenpool. She needs to go.

The Flash, Vol 2: Speed of Darkness

Read 20/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

I wasn’t really expecting to like this because volume 1 was pretty meh and I am really exhausted lately but I actually really enjoyed this one. I’m hoping to read volume 3 when it comes out later this year.

American GodsΒ I Hate Fairyland, Vol. 1 by Skottie YoungΒ Alex + Ada, Vol. 1 by Jonathan LunaΒ The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and VirtueΒ Amazing Spider-Man by Dan SlottΒ The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan

Basically everything in this row and below I read in the BookTube-A-Thon!

American Gods

Read 23/07/2017Β β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†β˜†

Ngl I’m super proud that I managed to read this monster of a book in 20 days.

That being said, while the premise of the novel is really cool I pretty much hated every second of this book. This is the fourth of Gaiman’s books that I’ve read and it’s the fourth that I haven’t enjoyed. Everyone talks about how good his writing is, and I agree, but I also think that he’s just not for me. This book had so much potential but it was like when you order a really great salad but when you dive in, you know they made it wrong or maybe the chef was having a bad day. Either way, you shouldn’t have ordered the salad. I think that’s just how I feel about Neil Gaiman’s novels, this was it for me, the deciding novel, should I stay or should I go. Well, unfortunately I’m leaving, I’m giving up on you Gaiman, your books just aren’t for me.

I Hate Fairyland Vol 1

Read 26/07/2016Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Challenges:

  • Read a book in one day
  • A book you bought because of the cover

I loved this! Skottie Young has recently become one of my favourite comic people so I had a hunch that I would love this. Though this is ridiculously violent I was smiling the whole time. I will definitely be picking up volume 2 soon because this was absolutely fantastic!

Alex + Ada Vol 1

Read 26/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜†

Challenge:

  • Person On the Cover

I’ve been meaning to read this for years, so when I was given volume 1 for my birthday this year I swear I meant to pick it up immediately, but of course I didn’t. The Booktubeathon was the perfect time for me to read this! I loved this volume and think this trilogy is centered around a really interesting question, and I cannot wait to get to volume 2.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue

Read 27/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

THIS BOOK IS AN ADVENTURE! I loved every second of this and rest assured if I had the time I would be picking this right back up and reading it again.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 5

Read 28/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜†β˜†β˜†

Challenge:

  • Read a book outside

Okay, so I jut want to start off by saying that unlike so many fans I actually don’t hate the Clone Conspiracy. That being said, I hated this volume of Worldwide. I found this volume confusingΒ and very jumpy I couldn’t tell which storylines I was supposed to be paying attention to because there were so many of them, considering the series hasn’t been cancelled yet I was really expecting more from this volume.

The Hidden Oracle

Read 29/07/2017Β β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…

Challenge:

  • Read 7 Books

This was so interesting to read a second time round, especially now that I have the historical background for all of this.

Also, I really love Percy Jackson?

Hawkeye, Volume 1 by Matt Fraction

Hawkeye Vol 1

Wasn’t a massive fan of the art change but I did really enjoy this comic. If I saw volume 2 at the library I would definitely pick it up!

A Wrinkle in Time: The Graphic Novel
I also got 170 pages into the graphic novel of A Wrinkle In Time. I was hoping to finish it before 12 for the BookTube-A-Thon but couldn’t manage it because of all my assessment!

I seriously recommend this graphic novel, it’s a lot of fun and doesn’t take away from the story in any way!
