Hi guys, my name is Ellyn and I’m a Negative Nancy

…but 2018 is going to change that. 


So… who am I and what am I doing with my life?

Welp, honestly I don’t really know buttttt, what I do know is that 2017 was a hellfire of a year and I am determined to stop that from happening this year.

Okay, so I have already mentioned that I am a Negative Nancy (I prefer the term realistic but oh well) and that is basically just my personality so my goal is not to change that but, I would like to enjoy the year more. I would like to purposefully chuck myself into situations I know will lift my spirits instead of ranting about politics and listening to Adele on repeat.


So, I’ve called this The Happiness Project but what does that mean? Basically, it means that I just want to be happy in 2018. Last year I went a little crazy. I bought too many books and then got really ashamed of myself for it, I started a new and very stressful job, I got soo stressed and anxious that I am still dealing with the repercussions now (2-3 months later for a bit of a guide) and I finished High School. So you could say it was a bit of an intense year.
And that’s not even getting political, or talking about stessful running a blog can be.

So, that’s why I’ve created this project for myself (and anyone else who wants to hop on board with me). This year is about me. I am still dealing with the fallout of 2017, both mentally and physically and I refuse to let this be what I am left with the same time next year. It’s not healthy and I won’t let it happen. And so, without further ado… my (lowkey) goals.



So, I have already shared my reading goals (read about them here) with you guys but I think this is a different, more low-key type of goal. I hereby declare that, in 2018, I Ellyn of Allonsythornraxxbooks would like to make an effort to enjoy what I read this year. 

If I feel like listening to an 800 page, 48 hour horror than I want to actually do it. If I feel like not reading for 6 months then damn you, I’m going to stop reading for 6 months. But, most importantly, I don’t want to pick up books I already know I’m not going to enjoy, because what’s the point in that?

So far, this year I have already started doing this and oh boy, I have read so much: nearly a book a day!! I have re-read book literally days apart from when I read them last and I have generally enjoyed my reading a lot more than I have in the last couple of years. I’m not competing with anyone, I’m just enjoying myself and reading what I want to read.



So, this is not such a low-key goal. But, this year I would like to go to the cinema more often. I am not the richest person in the world but generally, when I see a film (if I like it) I will syphon off that energy and thrive off it for the next couple of days/ weeks so I would like to actually utilise that strength. For example, just a few hours ago I went and saw Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle (review coming soon) and since then I have written two blog posts, planned two more, braved a childhood fear and sent too much time theorising about and picking apart a certain movie franchise (hint: blog post coming soon!).



I don’t really have a big low-key blogging goal but mainly I think this year is for me. I want to focus on myself, what I want and what makes me happy. So, I think this year, I just want to talk about topics I want to discuss/ learn about with you guys and I would also like to write more Life Chats posts so I can get to know you guys while you slowly learn more about me.



And here it is, my big goal, my big revelation. How am I going to ensure I remain happy this year?

Well… I’m going to be super cliche. But hey, #NoRagrets

I’m going to write all my happiest most accomplished moments down and put them in a jar so I can read them at the end of the year when I’m exhausted and at my crabbiest/ most done with life stage. I really detest Christmas and Blogmas is going to kick my ass this year so I really think this is going to help lift my spirits in my time of need.
