Hufflepuffs value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1)  The Loneliest Girl in the Universe  Giant Days  The Diviners (The Diviners, #1)  The Complete Chi's Sweet Home, Part 1

MAGNUS CHASE

So, I might be totally biased because I love this series and when I love something it generally gives me a Puff feeling anyway, but I genuinely think Magnus Chase is a Hufflepuff. Yes, he rushes into situations but don’t pretty much all of Riordan’s characters do that anyway?

I love Magnus as a character and my favourite thing about him is how much he loves his friends. He’s a really loyal character and family & friendship are both really important to him. He’s a total Puff!

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE

I think you could reasonably argue that the main character, Romy, is a Ravenclaw because of her crazy science background & upbringing but I think her personality is more Hufflepuff than anything else.

I really loved Romy as a character and really related to her addiction to tv shows and fanfiction, and in my opinion, there is nothing more Hufflpuffy than obsessions with these two things.

GIANT DAYS

Okay, so I still haven’t finished this but I am something like 20% of the way through my e-arc and so far I’m getting a really chill, Hufflepuff vibe from this book (I get a Gryffindor vibe from the comics if you’re curious). This is a fun book with a really fun cast of characters who have a fun time in the first year of College.

THE DIVINERS

This book is like one giant group hug with some horror and social commentary chucked in there for fun and I LOVE IT. I recently read the first 3 books in this series and thought they were all really really good. I loved each book in the series and love each character in the main group with my whole heart I’m serious guys, I would die for the love of my life, Theta Knight.

These books can get pretty dark at times but honestly, you won’t care because you’ll be too busy falling in love with all the characters.

CHI’S SWEET HOME

I mean, come on! This is literally a graphic novel about a kitten exploring the word (and his new home) with his new family for the first time and it is SO GOSH DARN CUTE! This graphic novel series is the absolute cutest thing in the world and he is the epitome of a Hufflepuff!

IF YOU LIKED THIS YOU’LL LIKE THIS: LET’S GET GOTHIC

Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children, #2)

DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONE

youmightlike

YOU MAY LIKE YOU MAY LIKEFrankenstein    Dracula

FRANKENSTEIN & DRACULA

Just ask anyone who’s read Down Among The Sticks and Bones and they’ll tell you that it felt exactly like a mix of Frankenstein &  Dracula with some social commentary on the side.

I really love DATSAB and every time I read it I get something different out of it. I’ll be honest I’ve never been particularly interested in Frankenstein or Dracula, so unless I had to read them for class, this book would probably be the only reason I picked them up. I thought it was really interesting how the two worlds can co-exist so it would be really interesting how they fair apart too, in their seperate novels.

Northanger Abbey

NORTHANGER ABBEY

If you like Jane Eyre then Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen) is going to be right up your alley! Both these books have a very similar, dark and dramatic vibe to them. They have two very intelligent and forward-thinking MCs (main characters) but, the characters also have quite overactive imaginations.

Also, as a plus, both of these are pretty funny so if you’re looking for something dramatic, gothic and worth a laugh, this is the book for you!

I thought this was really fun so let me know if you guys want me to recommend books after other colours!

Faithful

Faithful is one of my favourite books of all time. This is a pretty depressing read, but I loved it nonetheless. I never thought this would be my cup of tea and I was constantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. Faithful is the story of a twenty-something-year-old who was in a car crash with a friend who ends up in a coma while the mc is fine, so basically shit hits the fan and the mc get’s majorly depressed and life gets pretty low. So, this is much of a coming of age story with the addition of dogs.

Wires and Nerve, Volume 1 (Wires and Nerve, #1)

Wires and Nerve is so much fun! If you loved The Lunar Chronicles (there are major spoilers for the whole series) or you’re looking for some motivation to re-read the series this is the graphic novel for you! The art is really great and Iko is a really fun MC. If you want some fun extras from your faves this is a really fun way to read about what they’re up to after Stars Above!

Before the Devil Breaks You (The Diviners, #3)

Okay, so technically this is book 3 in the series but, Before The Devil Breaks You is such a good book that I couldn’t leave it out of this list! This series is amazing and so diverse! Every character is completely different from the other and the main group makes my heart so happy! Don’t you love it when you have a bunch of characters who eventually come together in the next book and then save the world together? I love it and it makes the book so much more fun to read!

The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co., #1)

The Screaming Staircase is such a fun book and I wish more people would read it! This is a series but, I think book 1 is still my favourite. There’s just something so much fun about meeting your favourite characters for the same time and seeing the main group come together to defeat some ghosts be totally badass (also I love friendship omg).

The Rig (The Rig, #1)

I love me a beautiful book about beautiful people who are also criminals trying to escape prison so they can help their mums. This is such a fun book about a literal crinimal trying to escape a prison in the middle of the ocean and maybe there are some secrets and maybe definitely not enough people have read this book!

a books Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)   They Both Die at the End   Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normal   172 Hours on the Moon

ILLUMINAE – AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF

  • Really interesting storytelling technique
  • Despite the size, it’s a quick read
  • Everyone loves the AI??
  • Will make you cry apparently?

THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END – ADAM SILVERA

  • In true Silvera style, this is depressing af
  • Awesome cover
  • The title
  • Diverse characters

MS MARVEL – G. WILLOW WILSON & ADRIAN ALPHONA

  • Pakistani American Muslim mc
  • Great art style & colouring
  • Strong female mc
  • Really fun to start off with if you aren’t into comics but plan on continuing the series (not everything is explained in vol 1)

172 HOURS ON THE MOON – JOHAN HARSTAD

  • The blurb says this a “terrifying thriller for young adult fans of The Martian and paranormal space adventure…” I disagree, I think this a good place to start if you’re trying to get into sci-fi or YA horror, but it’s definitely nothing like The Martian.
  • It’s a translated work
  • It’s a quick and interesting read if you’re looking for a bit of a scare

a books To Kill a Kingdom   A Thousand Pieces of You (Firebird, #1)   Unhooked   Carry On

TO KILL A KINGDOM – ALEXANDRA CHRISTO

  • This has a really brilliant premise
  • If you like unlikable characters this is the one for you!
  • A really cool twist on “The Little Mermaid
  • Incredibly captivating
  • Hate-to-love romance
  • Sirens!

A THOUSAND PIECES OF YOU – CLAUDIA GRAY

  • Such a prettiful cover
  • Brilliant plot idea
  • All the plot twists
  • So much travelling!
  • Plot-centric romance

UNHOOKED – LISA MAXWELL

  • An interesting view on Neverland lore
  • Very descriptive
  • Finally, a book that admits Tinkerbell is kinda sucky
  • Captin Hook 👌👌👌
  • Evil Pan 👌👌👌

CARRY ON – RAINBOW ROWELL

  • I can’t believe I am here recommending this book. I hate Carry On and I feel no shame. But… I do understand why others do like it.
  • It’s got an interesting m/m romance
  • It’s heavily based on the HP series, so it’s got that nostalgia factor
  • There’s a guy named Basil, and I love that
  • There’s weird magic – you will love it or you will hate, there is no in between
  • Draco/Harry hate-to-love romance

BOOKSHELF TOUR RECOMMENDATIONS #1 // A NEW SERIES???

I think we all know what a bookshelf tour is at this point. If you watch Booktube than you know that Bookshelf tours are a big deal and often expected. I’ve been wanting to do one myself for so long but I honestly had no idea how to go about it because the idea of doing a bookshelf tour all in one blog post is pretty daunting so I thought I would give it a go but break up my shelves as I go. I also am not fond of talking about every single book on my shelves, so I thought I would recommend some of the books, via each shelf – ignoring the books I’m not fond of. Hence, this post! I decided to go shelf by shelf recommending my favourite books on my shelves and I hope you guys enjoy!

THE RAVEN CYCLE

The-Raven-Cycle-Series

I don’t know that I even need to really recommend this series at this point, but for the purposes of keeping this post honest about what I have on my shelves, I’m going to include it!

This is a really fantastic and character-based series! This series has basically no plot and mostly just focuses on the main characters. Each of the characters is completely unique to each other and there is pretty much a character for every reader to relate to, for me, it’s Adam Parrish.

THE LUNAR CHRONICLES

43087-cronicaslunares

Okay, I need to read this series asap. I included these books in my latest Books I Need to Re-read post! I plan on continuing my re-read of the series soon so hopefully, I’ll love it just as much as I did the first time.

I loved these books when I first read them and I really enjoy the fun sci-fi twist on fairytales. It has been a couple of years since I picked these books back up and I still think about them all the time. The characters are all really fun, and unlike The Raven Cycle, this does have a lot more of a plot. I don’t know if i’m really selling this series to you guys, but I swear I love these books!

STARBOUND TRILOGY

0252b-untitled-3

I love this trilogy and I have no shame! This is a really fun trilogy full lots of cheesy romance and a really cool plot. Each book is a companion novel and they all connect at the end! It also has a really great finale that I really enjoyed when I read it. My favourite book in the series would have to be book one purely because I love the characters SO MUCH but, I love this whole trilogy and hope you guys do too!

SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT

a49e7-skulduggery2bseries

I just found out that there’s an 11th book in this series that was recently released and I’m honestly so mad I didn’t know about it! I love this series and somehow I am now two books behind and it’s kind of stressing me out because I love these books so much and I need to know why the author decided to start writing the books again (the main series stopped a few years ago at book 9). Anyway, this book series is fantastic, there is so much beautiful and sassy banter and I just love it so so much???

CARAVAL TRILOGY

Related image

So,  I know I’ve been recommending mostly finished series in this post so far, but so far we have 2/3 books in the trilogy out and I am currently reading Legendary and loving it, so I am pretty confident that this series will be staying on my favourites shelf for years to come. Stephanie Garber has some seriously fantastic atmospheric writing and a really great mind for plot twists and amazing scenery and I wish more people would pick up Caraval because I love it so much and it deserves all the love!

THE FINAL EMPIRE (MISTBORN TRILOGY)

Image result for the mistborn trilogy

This trilogy is everything to me and I love it so so much. Brandon Sanderson knows how to write an amazing storyline. Don’t expect a diverse cast but do expect an amazing plot and brilliant world building. Expect ridiculously long books and really interesting characters! This trilogy is absolutely brilliant and I wish you guys would give it a go!

MAGNUS CHASE TRILOGY

Image result for magnus chase trilogy

This is one of my favourite trilogies of all time and I love it and wish everyone would read it. If you like his other books then I wish you would consider picking up the Magnus Chase trilogy! You can check out my review of book one to see why I love the books so much, but basically, I just love the characters. You might know this about me, but I am more of a character reader than a lover of plot, so this trilogy is exactly the read for me!

COVER ENVY | I Recommend Books With Amazing Covers

Hey guys, today I am feeling a slight blogging slump coming on. I don’t know really, it’s weird, I think it has just been a long week and a long week makes a tired family makes an angry family makes a loud family makes a sad and anxious me. So, to try and cheer myself up and to make an attempt at getting my blogging mojo back I thought I would recommend some books to you guys based off of some amazing book covers, because who doesn’t love beautiful covers???

arrowiconphoenixfeather

AUDIOBOOKS ANTruly Devious (Truly Devious, #1)   Unearthed (Unearthed, #1)   Faithful   Dreadnought (Nemesis, #1)

TRULY DEVIOUS

This is a really fun first part to a three-book mystery! It’s a good YA mystery with your customary first book in a trilogy cliffhanger, and I am excited to read book 2 in 2019! Truly Devious has a really fantastic cover, from what I remember, it doesn’t have too much to do with the actual plot of the novel but, I really like the subtle design of the leaves and the main block colour.

UNEARTHED

Unearthed is a really fun and short sci-fi novel. It was slightly different to Kaufman & Spooner’s other duo books (the Starbound trilogy) but, you could also tell that it was written by the same authors. Unlike, Truly Devious, the cover is actually a scene in the book, which I really like. I really enjoyed this book and if you struggle with reading these authors’ combo novels I recommend trying the audiobooks!

FAITHFUL

This book is phenomenal. Faithful is one of the best books I have ever read and I wish more people would pick it up. This book has absolutely amazing writing and the main character that I really love, think along the lines of Alex Craft from The Female of The Species. She’s pretty problematic and she doesn’t always go about things the right way. But, she loves dogs and she loves her people and she is what makes this book so brilliant. Also, the cover is bomb.

DREADNOUGHT

Everyone is always talking about how we need more diverse superhero stories and here this book is sitting on the shelf being neglected. GUYS! Here it is! Here’s the story you’ve been searching for! Dreadbought is a really great book about a trans lesbian teen who’s just inherited the superpwers of the worlld’s greatest superhero. It’s got great reviews and is really enjoyable so I urge you guys to pick it up!

AUDIOBOOKS ANJuliet Takes a Breath   The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1)   Beneath the Sugar Sky (Wayward Children, #3)   Wild Beauty

JULIET TAKES A BREATH

This book is fantastic and like Dreadnought, I don’t understand why more people haven’t read it. There isn’t much in the way of plot, but if you’r looking for a character based, coming into your own, diverse ya contemporary then this is the book for you.

MAGNUS CHASE

This trilogy is fantastic and I love it very much. It is also pretty diverse, there’s a deaf ahcracter, a muslim character and a transgender and gender fluid character. Personally, I can only vouch for the deaf rep but, from what I’ve seen all the represntation in this trilogy is good. In classics Riordan style, this is a really fun action trilogy full of a new mythology and lots of sarcasm and humour.

BENEATH THE SUGAR SKY

I love this book! Like all of the books in this series, it’s quite shirt and it packs a punch! It also has a whole cast of diverse characters including a fat MC. As a plus siza gal myself, I can definitely say that the fat rep is amazing. A lot of people complain that the mc being plus size is talked about too much in the novella but I completely disagree. Being plus size is frowned upon pretty harshly in society so how could we not be thinking about it all the time???

WILD BEAUTY

This book is brilliant! Wild Beauty is a wonderful and soft book about a group of women who live in a garden on an island. One day, a boy washes up to the island and the girls take him in because guess what he’s got no memory yadayadayada EXCEPT that he’s actually an amazing soft boy who desrves the world and cooks for them when they’re sad and so the cliche premise is allowed this one time. Also, look at that heck’n cover kids I’m screaming(what am I even saying at this point???).

AUDIOBOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

So, I know I don’t talk about this often, but I am actually a really big audiobooks fan. I am constantly listening to an audiobook, particularly when I’m writing a blog post or doing anything on my computer. So today, I will be recommending some audiobooks to you guys, so hopefully, you’ll want to check them out!

Remember to click on the covers to go to the Goodreads page!

AUDIOBOOKS YOU MIGHT ENJOY

Scythe cover art Caraval cover art Peter Pan cover art The Final Empire cover art Truly Devious cover art

SCYTHE Apart from the fact that this is an awesome story the audiobook is also great. It’s nothing special – there are no crazy background sounds and there is only one narrator. But, I think the story is narrated really well.

CARAVAL I read this physically last year and then listened to it for the first time in the back end of last month. it is your run of the mill audiobook but I actually found it really helped me get into the mind of the character because I often forget what is going on when I’m reading a book physically.

PETER PAN So if you know anything about me, you know that I am obsessed with everything Peter Pan. I’m not saying I want to go to Neverland, but I am absolutely nuts about the lore of it all. This version of this audiobook is the Audible exclusive and it’s narrated by the actress Lily Collins and I think she was perfect as the narrator.

THE FINAL EMPIRE This book is so good. I was slightly cautious when I was outlining this post because the author is quite a controversial topic because he is a homophobe. But, if you can ignore the author, his Mistborn trilogy is actually really good and amazingly thought out. If you don’t want to support the author, which is completely understandable, I think some of the books are on YouTube and you might be able to borrow them from a local library. Anyway, the books are really well narrated and I really enjoy how complex this world is.

TRULY DEVIOUS I listened to Truly Devious earlier this year and while I thought the actual book was meh, I really did enjoy the audiobook. I just seem to really enjoy listening to murder mysteries because it’s really cool to be in the background and just be told what is going on, if that makes sense. I would equate it to watching an episode of a cop drama, you’re just watching/ listening in the background.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Book 1 cover art Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer cover art Stalking Jack the Ripper cover art These Broken Stars cover art The Martian cover art

HARRY POTTER SERIES I love listening to this series because Stephen Fry is an amazing narrator! I am not a big fan of Jim Dale’s narration and have pretty much turned it off after a couple of minutes whenever I’ve attempted to give his narration a listen. Harry Potter was just meant to be narrated by Stephen Fry. If you are having trouble getting into the books physically I recommend giving the audiobooks a try!

MAGNUS CHASE TRILOGY This is a great trilogy anyway but, I really enjoyed listening to the trilogy on audio. I have read most of Rick Riordan’s books physically but recently I have been listening to them on audio. I don’t know what it is about these books, but I just really enjoy listening to them. It’s probably because all of Rick Riordan’s books have the same brand of humour and listening on audio just makes it feel like the character is actually telling the story to you out loud.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER SERIES I usually hate female narrators but for some reason, I really like this one? I really really love listening to mysteries on audio so this series is honestly perfect for me. Unlike with Truly Devious, I do actually love this book, but my point still stands that listening to murder mysteries being solved is a really fun experience. The characters in this series are all amazing and getting to hear their banter out loud is a whole lot of fun!

STARBOUND TRILOGY I have only listened to the first to books in this trilogy on audio but I will be listening to book 3 soon. Like with Harry Potter, I suggest giving these a listen. I find that these are quite easy to have on in the background. I can just write blog posts all day and chuck one of these on in the background and still enjoy both activities. These are fun sci-fi books with a heavy focus on romance so if that sounds fun I definitely recommend the trilogy!

THE MARTIAN This book is absolutely amazing and you will experience every emotion under the sun. Because this is on audio and because of the way this book is written this literally feels like Mark is talking to you. It feels like you’re going through the experience with him and it is both terrifying and wonderful at the same time. I could not recommend this book enough, however you read it.

Anne of Green Gables cover art The Raven Boys cover art The Hidden Oracle cover art Every Heart a Doorway cover art Stormbreaker cover art

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES I personally think that the audible exclusives are really cool but I’ve only listened to a few of them. And of the exclusives, this is one of my favourites. Rachel McAdams’ voice is perfect for Anne and she really captured the lightheartedness and care-free nature of Anne.

THE RAVEN BOYS I am one of those readers who constantly forgets everything about the character/s they are reading about. So, I pretty much read the first three books in this series and then I listened to book 4 on audio (I have since listened to all the books on audio) and was honestly thrown for a loop when the narrator started to doing accents. I WAS SHOCKED. So, listening to this on audio for me, was just so helpful because I feel like I actually connected with the character more than I did reading the books physically.

THE TRIALS OF APOLLO This book is so funny. The main character is the most self-centred character I have ever read from and OH MY LORD. He is hilarious and the whole book is from his pov and so listening to it on audio is the funniest thing because much like so many of the other books on this list, it is like the main character is telling you their story – much like Kvothe to the Chronicler in Name of The Wind, and it’s a really cool experience.

EVERY HEART A DOORWAY If you want a short audiobook centred around a mystical mystery this is the book for you! I really enjoy this series and definitely recommend it if you have longer trips to work or if you have a short road trip. It’s a really fun way to pretty much experience a whole story in one go.

ALEX RIDER SERIES I find that whenever I am a bit sad or whenever I just want to light a candle, and just calm down and so some colouring in I will turn one of these books on. The narration is pretty normal but just having the availability is really comforting because I can just chuck one of the books on and automatically I just become more chillaxed.

TALKING ABOUT MY FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD READS!

Hey guys! Today I’m coming at you with a blog post – it’s not a discussion or a recommendations post – it’s just me… talking without purpose or a theme??? I have no idea… but, anywayyy, today I’m going to be telling you about the books I loved when I was younger – splitting the books into what I really enjoyed reading in primary school and in high school.

arrowiconphoenixfeather

PRIMARY SCHOOL (5 -11)

books booksHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter #1)  The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy, #1)  Henry Hoey Hobson  The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

HARRY POTTER

I mean, if you guys know me you probably know of my love for Harry Potter. I don’t talk about the series all that often because I feel like everyone knows about Harry Potter and is there even all that more to say about the series at this point. This was not the series that got me into reading but, it is the series I remember loving and re-reading the most when I was younger, and I’m pretty sure that no matter what JKR says, I will still love the series even when I’m old and smelly.

THE GOLDEN DOOR

I love this series and wish everyone would just go ahead and read this. I feel like this trilogy and its author is basically Australian royalty and yet so many people haven’t read any of her books??? And yet here I am sitting in a corner all alone just loving her Doors trilogy. Basically, this trilogy is genius and it deserves so much more recognition.

HENRY HOEY HOBSON

This book is my childhood. It’s set literally across the road from where I live and I love it very much. It’s a fun and short middle-grade novel that I like to read whenever I feel really sick. I love this book and it honestly just feels like home because of how many times I’ve read it.

PERCY JACKSON

I mean, come on, it as a given, right?? When I was in the 6th grade my teacher attempted to read Percy Jackson to a class full of non-readers, excluding myself and pretty much one other student. So, she gave up on that pretty quickly but I ended up getting the book out from the library because I just love it so much and then I ended up reading and finishing it a couple of days later. This series is pretty much what I remember the most from my primary school days.

HIGH SCHOOL (12-17)

books books books aCinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)  The Giver (The Giver, #1)  Fahrenheit 451

THE LUNAR CHRONICLES

I’ll be honest, I flew through this series really quickly, I think I read the first three in something like a week. But, I haven’t actually re-read the entire series in YEARS. Which kind of makes me feel bad because this used to be one of my absolute faves so why haven’t I re-read it since? I am thinking, though that I will re-read the whole series (probably minus Fairest & Stars Above) this year, so if any of you guys wanna buddy read, hit me up!

THE GIVER

I love this book and it hurts me when people say they didn’t like it because they thought the movie was pretty shit and so they won’t read the book. Guys, please don’t do that. The movie is terrible, please read the book.

This is one of my favourite books and I wish that everyone would read it. You don’t have to read the whole series, just read The Giver and love it and absorb how amazing and smart the book is.

FAHRENHEIT 451

I love this book. It is the bee’s knees and I wish that more people would read it even though it’s a classic and everyone hates classics. I love this book and I think about it quite often and I’ll be honest I’ll start a conversation about someting just so I can segway into comparing it to something in this book. Basically, I love it and wish more people would read it.
