✨ Graphicsathon round 5 announcement! ✨ | my tbr + recommendations πŸ’•

Hi everyone. welcome or welcome back to my blog if you’re new! I’ve been co-hosting the Graphicsathon for a few years now with some of my blogging friends and it’s finally that time of year again! We’re back for round 5 and this round we’re switching things up! Last year we ended the year with a cramathon weekend where we tried to read whatever was left on our tbr for the year. And to kick off 2022 and keep ourselves accountable we’re reading a graphic every day of February, 28 in total!

Our main goal for the readathon is to read a graphic every day but we recognise that everyone’s day looks different and that 28 is a big number so we’re still counting it as a big win if everyone reads every day, even if it’s just a page of your current graphic! We still want this to be a laid back readathon, this is just a fun challenge so don’t pressure yourselves to read 28 if that isn’t an attainable goal for you! It can be 28 graphics read in 28 days or you could modify the goal to reading for 28 days (not necessarily finishing 28 things. It’s up to you and I can’t wait to see all your tbrs and wrap ups! πŸ’•

Graphicsathon Round 4 Announcement!

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m just doing a short but informative post to announce round four of the Graphicsathon! I’ve been running this readathon for a while now and I’ve seriously been loving reading graphics with you all so I figured why not keep it going! And, this round we even have some fantastic new hosts AND we’re hosting sprints for the first time ever! (details at the end of this post)

So, what is Graphicsathon? It’s a readathon dedicated to anything told in graphic (aka. anything where the main storytelling devices is illustrations) so comics, manga and graphic novels all count! We’re also pretty calm about the rules so you can read web comics or even listen to them on audiobook if that’s a mode available to you (I know a lot of comics and graphic novels like Nimona or Ms Marvel are available via audio), it’s all about reading graphics!

I’ll have my tbr coming soon so you can look forward to that! What will you be reading for round four?

OWLS MAGICAL READATHON 2020 WRAP UP

wrapupfeature1

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! I know I just posted my full April wrap up but this month I also ended up doing the OWLS readathon so I figured I’d show you what I read for that + the prompts!

In March I was making plans to do the OWLs readathon but while I was making my tbr to try and fit with the prompts, I couldn’t get my tbr to work for me as something realistic that would also motivate me to read throughout the month! So, instead of the owls I decided to do 30 in 30 so I would still have a challenge for the month, but then in the last sort of week, of the month I thought just for shits and gigs I’d look up the prompts again just to see how well I would’ve done if I’d been actively participating and it turns out I’d subconsciously complete all 12 prompts! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜†

DO READATHONS ACTUALLY HELP WITH READING?

Hey guys! Today I’m coming at you with another discussion on my blog and I’m talking about whether or not readathons actually help us with reading books. Does participating in readathons frequently (or, at all) help increase the rate at which we read a book, or is it just a lot of hype and stress for a normal or mediocre result?

flowerdivider

HOW MUCH DO WE READ WHEN WE READATHON?

So, do we actually read more books when we participate in a readathon? I know that I’m pretty crap at 24 hour readathons and 3 week – month long readathons. But, I am pretty good at week-long readathons. I find that for me, I get burnt out after roughly a week but, during that week I do read quite a few books, and definitely, more than I would have read without the motivation from the readathon.

Also, it just depends on which type of reader you are. Readathons aren’t for everyone, and some people really excel at 24 hour readathons and will read thousands of pages. Whereas, others excel more so over a longer period of time and will use the pressure of the readathon to help propel them forwards.

THE PROS AND CONS OF READATHONS?

THE PROS

β€’The motivation to read that comes along with joining a readathon can increase the rate at which you read books.

β€’Helps with your reading challenge

β€’Gives you a motivation to read

β€’Having others do the readathon with you, gives you so much support and makes it so much more fun! The community can be at it’s best when there’s a readathon going on!

THE CONS

β€’There is suddenly so much pressure to read!

β€’It’s so stressful! Why am I not reading fast enough? Am I in a slump? What should I read next? But, they’ve read more than me! I’m reading so so slowly!

β€’The story doesn’t always sink in if the readathon is really short and you’re reading a bunch of other books

β€’Readathons don’t always help you to read more, sometimes they just make you stressed and tired.

β€’Month-long/lengthy readathons can cause reading slumps
