The New Releases Book Tag β†  Allonsy Original Tag πŸ’•

Hi All, welcome back to my blog! It’s Tag Monday and today I’m shaking it up with an original tag! I haven’t done one of these in a while and I have a few others in the works but recently I’ve been really wanting to talk about new releases, but couldn’t think how to without writing a review so I looked up new releases book tags but couldn’t fine any. So I decided to just make one myself!

You can find my new releases shelf on Goodreads here.

booktags_2018feature
So, I’m currently stuck at home (I’m definitely not complaining, I’m happy to do whatever I can to keep people safe!) but because I’m not working or travelling to and from Uni, I suddenly have A LOT of extra time in my life, so I figured why not make a book tag? And a relevant one? I hope you guys enjoy this one and maybe it helps you take your mind off things for a second! Enjoy!

Allonsy Book Awards.png

Hi everyone! Welcome back to my blog! Today I’m coming at you with the categories I’ll be using in January to summarise my reading throughout 2019! Why January? I hear nobody ask.Β I’ll be posting my Book Awards in January so I can make sure that I’ve definitely finished reading all the books I plan to in 2019.

So, this is something I’m doing just for myself, but if you wanted to do it too, please do ! (you don’t have to call it the Allonsy awards, just replace it with your name or the year, but please tag me so I can read your post!!). I also made a rule that I only talk about books I read and finished in 2019.

If you decide to do this with me you don’t have to answer every category and please add and change the challenges based off your own reading tastes, also please pinback to me so I can see your posts!

JANE LYNCH: A favouriteΒ book featuring a character on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum

a havenEvery Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)Β  Β People Like UsΒ  Β Wild BeautyΒ  Β The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

I don’t know that I really have a favourite lgbtqia+ book (there are too many amazing books to choose from) but, these are some of the most recent ones I’ve read that I’ve loved! I’ve tried to add books from different genres to my list and I think these have all been really fun!

LADY JANE GREY: A short book that packed a punch

The Giver (The Giver, #1)

This is one of my favourite books ever. The Giver hits me every time I read it. It’s like being hit by a truck and then run over by a bus of screaming children… but in a good way.

The Giver is really fun and really smart and I love it more each time I read it.

JANE AUSTEN: Favourite heroine in a classic book

Persuasion

I really want to be cliche and say Elizabeth Bennet but instead, I’m only going to be partially cliche and go with Anne Elliot from Persuasion by the Jane Austen. I could’ve said so many other characters like Meg Murry or Anne Shirley but, I think Anne is a more relatable character. Anne is strong and resilient but always copping theΒ short end of the stick. She’s really sensible and always taking care of her family, but like all of us, she is also impressionable and easily persuaded (hence the title) but by the end of the book she develops as a character and comes into the world a better person.

Wow, I never realised how much I looked up to her until writing this.

JANE EYRE: Your favourite retelling

Lost Boy

Is this even a question at this point? Hi, if you’re new to my blog, my name is Ellyn, I am obsessed with Peter Pan and I have no shame.

Lost Boy is honestly one of my favourite reads of 2017 and by far the best retellingΒ I have ever read and I don’t understand why more people haven’t read it. It’s basically the story of Peter Pan from the perspective of one of the Lost Boys. It also really highlights the bad sides of Peter Pan that you definitely don’t see in the Disney film, which is one of the reasons I love it.

CALAMITY JANE: Your most anticipated release

a havenEscaping from Houdini (Stalking Jack the Ripper #3)Β  Β My Plain Jane (The Lady Janies, #2)Β Β Β Undying (Unearthed, #2)Β  Β The Mermaid

I mean, there are just so many. I think my top 2018 release would have to be Escaping From Houdini but, honestly, I am looking forward to so many good books this year!

JANE FONDA: A character who upholds feminist ideals

The Nowhere Girls

For this one, I’m going to go with the group of girls called The Nowhere Girls from the book of the same name. These girls are all amazing and the book is about them trying to find a voice and defend themselves in a town that doesn’t believe/& shames rape victims. It’s a really great book that gives a voice to women and shows how amazing we can be when we work together.

JANE KRAKOWSKI: An underrated book you wish more people would read

The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy, #1)

The Golden Door is amazing and you should go and read it right now. I know that I talk about this book a lot but it is honestly worth it! I re-read this trilogy every year or two and it never gets old. I love the characters and I love his unique and interesting the books are, it just makes me really happy whenever I read it!

THE LADY JANIES: Two or more authors you wish would write a book together

haven haven haven haven havenA Wrinkle in TimeΒ  Β Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children, #1)

We all have an author duo dream team. for a lot of people it’s Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli, but for me, hands down, it has to be Madeleine L’Engle & Seanan McGuire. I love their books and I think their book baby would be amazing! I love L’Engle’s writing and I think Seanan McGuire always writes really self-aware and interesting stories so combining their ideas would be amazing!

RUSH HOUR READATHON ANNOUNCEMENT

This is more of a readathon for me than anything else but please feel free to join in! I’ve found that towards the end of the year I either feel really inspired to read or I just sort of flop. And since this is my last year of high school I know I won’t have too much energy for readathons in the next month or two so I figured why not just do it at the very start of the term!

arrowicon

GOAL OF THE READATHON

I feel like all of us have pretty intense tbr piles and I have to admit that my Goodreads to be read shelf is pretty big. So my main goal with this readathon is to try and knock out some of the books that have been on my shelf for way too long.

I have books on my tbr shelf that have been there since I made my account, so I figure this is an easy way to help clean up my shelves.

arrowicon

You guys don’t have to join in but I would love it if you did! I’m really excited for this readathon and have high hopes t knock some of the older books off of my tbr shelf, that way I can replace them with all the new releases coming out next year!
