if you liked this book… you’ll like this book (& this book) | the raven boys, it happened one summer, acomaf, the martian, kingdom of the wicked πŸ“šπŸ’•

August 22, 2022August 13, 2022 ~ Ellyn ~ Leave a comment

Hey everyone, welcome or welcome back to my blog. I haven’t written any book recommendations in a little while so I figured I would do a whole bunch and try and recommend books in a different way than I usually do.

So, today I’m recommending a book based off another book and then recommending another book based off of the other two. I really hope that makes sense, it’s actually harder to explain this concept than I originally thought it would be, but it’ll become pretty clear once you see my lil graphics and the recs!

I hope you enjoy this different way of doing recs. If you do let me know in the comments and I’ll do it again in the future!

Hi all! Welcome back to my blog! We’re all in a bit of a rut at the moment and a lot of us are stuck at home (Kudos to you if you’re still working!) so I thought today I would recommend some books to y’all based off Disney movies + a Dreamworks movie that I thought was a Disney movie!

Milo and Lazlo, at least in the beginning of STD (ugh, that acronym) are basically the same character and while I don’t care for the book, reading about Lazlo at the beginning of the book was an awesome experience and really made me appreciate him.

I pretty much always associated these two from the moment I started reading STrange The Dreamer, both Lazlo and Milo are smart cookies and both are bookworms which is always fun to read from the perspective of!

You can read my review of Strange The Dreamer here!

SPIES!

I LOVE SPIES!

The spying is super unrealistic of course but, you know what? It’s also super fun and the main characters are also really strong, smart and sarcastic (oh my god, alliteration, I love me rn) which is my favourite combination ever!

The main characters and their personalities and the situations they get into really make the stories for me and I could not recommend either of these enough!

I mean… I’m recommending something in reference to Scooby-Doo, doesn’t that tell you all how good this is?

Fantasy + mystery + buddy crime solving

These movies are brilliant and this book series is such a fun experience, no matter who you are or what age group you usually read from.

I really love both of these stories and I know I will re-read and re-watch these stories again in the next year or two. These are both adult and both focus o the mc and their life while also giving the mc some perspective on their family life and where they’re going wrong.

What I love most about the main characters is that they are in no way perfect They make mistakes and have shitty family relationships and they’re not fine but, they’re still pulling through.

If you were anywhere near a bookish platform like BookTube or Goodreads around 2012 then you definitely know about these books. You could not have avoided them around that time. Obsidian is pretty much Twilight, but with aliens and I don’t hate it. It’s great for readathons or if you’re in a crappy mood and you just want something simple that won’t take too much brain power to get through.

If You Liked This… You’ll Like This [TV EDITION]

September 22, 2017June 10, 2022 ~ Ellyn ~ 4 Comments

Hey guys today I’m coming at you with a brand new recommendations post, with a twist! I always enjoy giving you guys recommendation posts but I feel like they always follow the same boring structure so I wanted to switch it up with this post! Today I’ll be recommending you some books based off of tv shows.

The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle, #1)

I can’t explain why it is that I find these two so similar. I think I compare them because of the sense of family I get from them both. With Doctor Who not only do you love The Doctor (well, not 12) but you also fall in love with his companions and over the seasons you see how they become like a close-nit family and you see them understand each other and die for eachother.

Doctor Who is similar to The Raven Cycle, in the way that the Gangsey is a family. They would all die for each other and the love they all have for eachother is amazing.

Steelheart (Reckoners, #1)

What really drew me to compare these two was how dark they are.  Both of these books are set in pretty dark worlds, with crazy evil villains. Both of these have also have superheroes. But the thing I like about both of thee is how the worlds are both really dark and the heroes of each story aren’t total protagonists because they also make some questionable choices.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

What? HP and Sherlock??? Um, yeah… I know. When I was brain storming for this post I wrote down a bunch of tv shows and when I was trying to find a book to match to Sherlock this was the only thing that I could think of.

I know that these two are quite different but I can’t help but compare them. Because J K  Rowling literally incorporated so much foreshadowing into the series it’s like this 7 book mystery and every time I pick the series up I find something else. Within every book there’s a little mystery, from figuring out who the Half-Blood Prince is to finding the Chamber of Secrets. I know that Sherlock is a lt darker, but come on have you seen HP, that shit gets pretty dark by the end.

I know, I know another weird pairing I’m sorry. Now I’m comparing PJO and Merlin, whatchgonnado? Anyway so in my notes I wrote that Annabeth is like Merlin. That was it, I made this weird combination and now I don’t even remember my reasoning. Good lord, past me why do you do these things?

So I think I compared these two because they kind of give off the same vibe – they are both centered around mythology and prophecy and they both have really great main groups. The characters aren’t really all that similar, I mean try comparing some of them and you will have a hard time, but if you think about it they are reasonably similar.

What I’ve learnt today: write better notes.

Because who didn’t see this coming. This one is pretty obvious, whenever I see this type of post people always pair Supernatural with Anna, so I won’t talk about it too much. I do want to mention Lockwood & Co. though because I do think it definitely fits. Supernatural is a pretty dark show and while I don’t think Lockwood gets too dark, it does really fit with SPN. These two both have some really great supernatural elements and both focus around investigating.

I haven’t watched Supernatural in years but as far as I can remember Sam and Dean are always going around the country solving supernatural crime and I think that is really cool and probably why I used to love the show so much. Lockwood is also about solving supernatural crime, so hey if you like SPN you’ll probably like this.
