9 HYPED BOOKS I STILL HAVEN’T READ!!??! (BUT WANT TO)

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a new post. Today I’m talking to you guys about all of the hyped books I still haven’t read. I think we all have pretty big tbrs, but sometimes there are just some books we don’t get to because of the hype or simply just because our tbrs are just soo big.

2018 RELEASES

FRIDGES FRIDGES ANWild BeautyANTBatman: Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2)ANTTruly Devious (Truly Devious, #1)

WILD BEAUTY

A book entirely about women with lgbt elements and magical realism. This everything I feel like I haven’t read in such a long time. I don’t remember the last time I read a book with lesbians in it so I am so hyped to finally read about lady love.

Also, women are brilliant and I need this now, please.

BATMAN

Okay, so along with Wild Beauty I do currently have this on hold at the library and I will hopefully be getting to it really soon. But, basically, I do think Batman is really interesting and reading about him as a child should be fun (is that the wrong word? I mean, everyone but Alfred is dead).

TRULY DEVIOUS

This seems totally up my alley and I want to read it for a blog post I am planning to write for you guys soon (get hyped, I’m so excited!!)

“New York Times bestselling author Maureen Johnson weaves a delicate tale of murder and mystery in the first book of a striking new series, perfect for fans of Agatha Christie and E. Lockhart.”

Okay, so I don’t really care about E Lockhart but I love Agatha Christie and murder mystery books so this book sounds like exactly the kind of books I’ve been loving so far this year!

BACKLIST BOOKS

FRIDGES FRIDGES ANDark MatterANTSleeping BeautiesANTA Darker Shade of Magic (Shades of Magic, #1)

DARK MATTER

A new fork-me-up psychological thriller? Yes please.

I have been screaming about this book ever since people started reading it and I even have the audiobook, so why haven’t I read it?? Honestly, I don’t know, maybe I just need a readathon or the right mindset or something??? Idk halp pls

SLEEPING BEAUTIES

I have never read a Stephen King novel because I’ve heard that some of his books are problematic and honestly, from what I’ve seen, his writing is boring and that his books only drawl on because often the plot doesn’t really get going until about halfway through or so. BUTTTT this is a sleeping beauty retelling which is co-written so I’ll give it a go.

A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC

I own the first two books so it’s ridiculous that I haven’t read this yet. Yep, I’m really feeling the reader shame now.

FRIDGES FRIDGES ANRenegades (Renegades, #1)ANTThe Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet (Wayfarers, #1)ANTWe Are the Ants

RENEGADES

WRITING THIS POST FINALLY PUSHED ME TO PUT THIS ON HOLD AT THE LIBRARY SO PLEASE DON’T HURT ME.

I loved The Lunar Chronicles & I did appreciate Heartless so I know that I enjoy Marissa Meyer’s writing. Hopefully, her writing mixed with superheroes should mean that I enjoy this book but honestly, who the hell knows. The cover does look cool though.

THE LONG WAY TO A SMALL ANGRY PLANET

And again, I own the first two books in this series so I really have no excuse at this point. This is space opera that I have honestly heard only positive things about. So, why haven’t I read it? Pure procrastination, please hold me accountable.

WE ARE THE ANTS

Aliens and an lgbt main character. Yes, please.

Yes, I know I’ve had this in so many tbr style posts, I even own it in hardcover. Honestly, I think the only reason I haven’t read this is just because I don’t want to be let down. I really don’t want this to be overhyped.

Hyped Book Recommendations!

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with some recommendation of books I think are totally worth the hype! I know that usually when we hear about hyped books they are either too good to be true or they are overhyped so today I thought I’d talk about some of the hyped books I’ve read, but in a more positive light.

arrowicon

InvictusΒ Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten HolyΒ Caraval (Caraval, #1)Β Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)Β Eating AnimalsΒ Gone Girl

INVICTUS

I haven’t read that many time travel books but the ones I have read haven’t really done the whole time travel thing properly. As in, they’ve said, hey we’re time travellers but then they haven’t actually time travelled or anything.

But, in Invictus, the characters ACTUALLY DO THE THING THEY’RE TELLING US THEY’RE DOING and it’s great and I appreciate it. Also, I just really enjoy this novel in general.

LUMBERJANES

Lumberjanes is a fun adventure graphic novelΒ series with LGBTQIA characters, amazing artwork and all the girl power. I know I recommend this a lot, but it’s for a reason, this series really is worth the read.

CARAVAL

A circus mystery is always fun, especially when it involves magic and plot twists. This is why you should read Caraval. Also, the imagery and the writing that the author uses makes the novel SOO much better. The plot isΒ A+ and the writing is fantastic, I definitely recommend this one.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER

This novel has brilliant writing, a wonderful main character, girl power (in a time when women were pushed to the side) and romance that doesn’t take over the plot (in fact it’s not even a side plot, it’s like a side side plot). This series is pretty gory but aside from that, it is fantastic. But if you don’t like violence or to hear about dead bodies this probably isn’t your book.

EATING ANIMALS

I seriously love this book. I don’t think it should be compulsory, purely because I don’tΒ enjoy pushing my beliefs onto people, however, it is definitely one of the topΒ 3 bestΒ booksΒ I’ve ever read. This novel, if you can guess from the title, is about eating animals – it discusses the consequences we are facing now and will face later because of the meat industry (In the US) and I really enjoyed it. This book will make you think and it will make you question why you eat the way you do, and I really hope that you guys pick it up one day, even if you only read a chapter of two.

GONE GIRL

What does this book have going for it?

  1. Fantastic film
  2. Unreliable narrators are the best
  3. SO MANY PLOT TWISTS
  4. You guys know all of this already, please just read it

BOOKS WORTH THE HYPE

Last month I made one of these posts talking about overhyped books so I thought to lighten the mood I would talk about books I think are worth the hype.

The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy #1)Β Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens AgendaΒ Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1)Β Gone GirlΒ Eating Animals

01Β Β The Three Doors Trilogy by Emily Rodda

This is one of my favourite trilogies of all time. These books are amazing, the characters are all unique and the plot is phenomenal. Seriously, Emily Rodda is a genius, she really knows how to create a fantasy world that will have you on the edge of your seat.

02Β Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

I have talked about this book sooo many times on my blog but that’s for good reason, this book is just that good. It’s cute, it’s emotional and it’s fun. Simon is a really great novel about oreo appreciation and acceptance.

03Β The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I’ve yet to actually fully re-read this series but I have read the first three a couple of times. The Lunar Chronicles is a really fun science fiction series, with an amazing and diverse cast, it will have you crying and laughing and I cannot recommend it enough.

04Β Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I’ve only ever read this once but let me tell you it was one of the single best reading experiences of my life. While reading Gone Girl I was constantly talking about it to whover would listen, there was a fair bit of yelling and oh boy was I excited when they announced the film. This is a crazy-ass book that will have you on the loor in a daze and that’s weeks after you’ve finished it – it’s got a a ridiculous amount of plot twists and the characters are horrible, read it – I dare you!

05Β Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer

This is a book that surorisingly, I really didn’t know if I would enjoy. 1- it’s nonfiction 2- it’s about the meat industry in the US. I’d never really read too many non-fiction novels before, and why would I want to read this one? I’m already a vegetarian and I don’t live in the US. Either way, I am so glad I decided to pick this one up. This book taught me so much, not only did I learn about how gross the meat industry can be, but it also gave me the oppotunity to learn about myself – it was a surreal experience reading this book and I wouldn’t take it back for the world.

OVERHYPED BOOKS

Talking about overhyped books is always an awkward subject but sometimes you gotta talk about it.Β

FangirlΒ Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)Β Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere Chronicles, #1)Β The Coldest Girl in ColdtownΒ Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

01 Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I was really excited to read Fangirl when I first heard about it, I mean it’s about a Fangirl, that’s my kind of book. Well, it should have been.

  • The writing is bad
  • The main character is immature
  • The Harry Potter elements just annoyed me
  • It’s only quotable if you want to reference it in a book of lines in books that didn’t make sense:

β€œHis eyes were set so deep, it made everything he said more intense.”

β€œsince Wren drunked at her.”

My review

02Β IlluminaeΒ by Amie Kaufman &Β Jay Kristoff

The format for this book is really cool but that’s where my positivity ends with this book.

I feel like half of this bok was unnecessary and could have been cut out – I’m sorry, I’ve got other books waiting for me, could people please edit their books properly.

The plot was boring and ordinary and I didn’t care about the characters.

Overall, it was a massive disappointment, literally this novel is huge.

My review

03Β Finnikin of the RockΒ by Melina Marchetta

If you want overbearing romance and little to no plot this is your book.

I had high hopes for this book but I think I’m one of the few people that just didn’t care for it. It seems like everyone enjoyed it but for me it was 500 pages of nothing.

My thoughts

04Β The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly BlackΒ

One one hand Holly Black has really good writing and this story has great promise, on the other hand the insta-love is ick and the cahracters are underdeveloped. This is a standalone so that could contribute to that but this book had potential and I don’t think it quite reached it.

05Β Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

I have only ever heard praise for this book and I can’t say that I understand what all the hype is about. Celaena Sardothien is soo annoying and I really wasn’t a big fan of any of the characters and couldn’t connect with any of them. I didn’t enjoy any part of this so I won’t be continuing the series.
