BOOKS I REGRET BUYING | Confessions #2

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a new confessionsΒ post! Lately, a couple of people have been making videos talking about the books they regret buying so I thought I would give it a shot!Β

These are only the books I regret buying, not the books I regret reading. I generally never regret reading a book, even if I didn’t enjoy it. I think it’s fine to dislike a book, it’s more fun to always have an opinion on a book, rather than having nothing to say about it.

The Knife of Never Letting Go

This is the only book on my list that I dnf’d. I have been thinking about picking it back up since the movie is currently being filmed, but at the same time, the reason I put down the book was because of the writing. I started reading this around 2012, and got roughly halfway through before I completely gave up on it. I’m pretty sure most of the people who read this really enjoyed the writing though, so I guess it’s just me sitting in my little corner of shame because I didn’t like this one.

Throne of Glass Books 1-4

Yeah. Everyone was raving about this series (and they still are) around the same time I read The Knife of Never Letting Go. I had a Dymocks gift card, I had just recently gotten really into watching Booktube and of course TOG is one of the main series on BT. There was a cheap paperback of the first three books and I was so sure I would like them so I got it. I then also saw book 4 at Target so I picked it up.

Basically, don’t buy the first four books in a series when you haven’t read any of them yet. BAD IDEA. I read the first one and was like, I have made a mistake, oh my god what have I done.

Illuminae

I don’t regret buying this exactly, it’s more so that I didn’t enjoy this and know that I won’t be continuing the series. However, I have given it to one of my brothers so I’m hoping that he will enjoy it more than I did, so maybe I didn’t totally waste $15?

The Mortal Instruments Books 1-3

Yeah, I won’t be talking about this for a long time. If you’ve been along with me for a while then you know that I do not recommend this or TID, and I do not like Casserole Clam. Basically I bought this around the time of my intro to Booktube and every one of my friends was reading it, so of course, the peer pressure got to me. ALl the books were really cheap at the time so I picked up the first 3 and at the time I didn’t totally hate them. FUnnily enough, the friends that pushed me to read these all those years ago now hate thee books too, oh, how time flies.

James Bond Books 1-15

Yeah, my mum convinced me to read these a couple of years ago because I was going through a massive JB phase. Don’t get me wrong though, I know he is a disgusting character, but I watch them for the action, plus Q is adorable and I love him.

Pretty much, I have read book one, but I know I will never pick up any of the other 14 books. James Bond is gross and book one was just using women and doing some gambling, it was completely pointless.

The Bronze Horseman

Yeah, so I was actually super excited to read this one. I thought this was so cool and I had only heard good things about the trilogy. So naturally I saw it at a used bookstore, and then, of course, a couple of months after, Whitney read it and made an amazing thread on Twiter talking about the abuse and rape in the book, and honestly, I am never here for non-consensual sex.

Should I try any of these again? What books do you regret buying?Β

Series I Won’t Finish! | Confessions #1

I’ve been meaning to make this post for months and am finally getting to it. Today I’ll be talking about all the series I won’t be finishing. I’m definitely not hating on these books or the authors, I just happen to have lost interest in the series shown below and doubt that I’ll ever continue them.Β

Also, a bunch of the series on this list I started 4 or 5 years ago but just haven’t continued and so I don’t think I will pick up the next books!

Mara Dyer //Β Divergent // The Maze Runner

I read Mara Dyer probably back in 2012 or 2013 and I actually read it in one day, and it was actually a school day, I have no idea why I thought that was a good idea but oh well. Anyway, I read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and really loved it but never got around to continuing the series. I always intended to keep going with the series, and sometimes i still consider it but then I got Goodreads and was bombarded by negative reviews. I know that a lot of reviewers I trust were not big fans of the continuations of the series so I probably won’t pick up the other books, also there’s a spin-off trilogy but it’s just in the love interest’s pov so I really don’t care about them.

Ah yes, do you guys remember Divergent? Well, I do, Divergent is another book I read in one sitting. I loved it when I read it but soon afterwards the third book came out I just lost interest. I had been given all three books but I had already been spoiled about the ending and I had tried to read book two and just didn’t care enough.

I always intended to finish the Maze Runner trilogy, and I even quite enjoyed the second novel. At one point I even started The Death Cure but was too bored so I took it back to the library. I was obsessed with the first film when it came out but I haven’t actually seen the other films either, whoops.

dhhhsaASDFDSStrange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)Β Beautiful Creatures (Caster Chronicles, #1)Β Fallen (Fallen, #1)

Strange The Dreamer // Beautiful Creatures // Fallen

Earlier this year I read Strange The Dreamer (you can read my review here) and while I loved the writing and for the first the plot, once the love interest was introduced the book went downhill. When I first started the novel I was thinking this was going to be a 5 star book for me, though by the time I finished the novel I was contemplating giving it 2 stars. I know that a lot of other people really loved the book, but I just don’t think Laini Taylor’s books are for me, so I won’t be reading the rest of the series.

With Beautiful Creatures and Fallen I can’t say I had the same experience, these books were quite hyped up when I read them but they just didn’t live up to the hype for me. Beautiful Creatures I couldn’t even finish, whereas, Fallen I did manage to get through it but I pretty much couldn’t stand it from chapter 1.

dbasdASDasASAVampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)Β Sleeping Giants (Themis Files, #1)Β Replica

Vampire Academy // Sleeping Giants // Replica

Ahh, yes, Vampire Academy.Β At this point who hasn’t read this book? A few years ago this and TMI was all Booktube could talk about it so of course I picked it up… and I hated it. Though, not enough to put me off the serious, I had heard it got better and was determined to read the series. And so I picked up book 2 and it was even worse, and thus my experience with the series ended.

Sleeping Giants (my review) and Replica (my review) were both different experiences for me. Sleeping Giants was an automatic hit for me, I really enjoyed the way it was told and thought the story was really interesting. However, I read book Β two (my review) earlier this year and really didn’t enjoy it, everything I loved about book one, I hated in book two and I definitely won’t be continuing the series.

Replica however, had a really cool premise, one side is Lyra’s POV and flip the book and you’ve got Gemma’s. Though, for me, I found that by the time Β made it to the second pov I was bored with the story. I’ve heard there are other ways to read the story, like a chapter of each pov in turn but that’s super hard to do on a kindle so I doubt I’ll be continuing the series.
