THREE THINGS ABOUT ME

1 I believe that The Princess Bride is one of the best movies in existence and I will never be convinced otherwise.

2 I think the place Neverland is really interesting and I would love to be able to (over)analyse the story, Peter Pan, one day.

3 My last fact, according to my brother, is that I suck. Oh, what a joy it is to have younger siblings.

tag_thequestions

1 If you had a million dollars, what would you spend it on?

Honestly, I’d either let it sit in the bank (aka. I’d let my mum use it at her leisure) or I’d use it to get a head start on my Uni loans.

2 What hyped book, do you hate/dislike?

I don’t hate it, but I wasn’t overly fond of Ace of Shades by Amanda Foody. But, more recently I disliked To Kill A Kindom and Dead Girl Gang.

3 What is your worst and best trait?

Worst – I’m going to go with my pride??? I can hold a grudge like a very angry pro.

Best – I’m loyal to a point. Like, I said, I’m prideful so if you cross me or someone I’m loyal to, we’re done, loyalty badge revoked.

4 What is the most interesting thing you’ve read this week?

Uhhh, I just started reading Legendary by Stephanie Garber and I’m really enjoying that?? So far, it’s pretty different to book 1, but it’s still got that great Stephanie Garber Caraval vibe.

5 If you were arrested with no explanation, what would your friends and family assume you had done?

I think they would assume I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m a stickler for rules and I always have been. In fact, story time! I have only ever had to leave the cinema once, and it was when I was a lot younger and I was seeing the live action version of The Cat of The Hat with my mother. And the movie got to the point where the cat is screwing everything up and breaking all the rules and jumping on couches and such and long story short, I was so upset that the kids were breaking rules that I had to leave the cinema, and to this day I still feel uncomfortable watching that movie.

Today I have been spoilt again by Rebecca over @ BookishlyRebecca. She nominated me for the Mystery Blogger Award back in May but my blogging schedule has been so packed that I have only been able to get to it now, whoops.

So without further ado let’s get into the tag!

arrowiconphoenixfeather

THREE THINGS ABOUT ME

1 I am currently snacking on a bowl of frozen strawberries, banana and chia seeds with a dash of greek yoghurt. It’s my go-to snack and I definitely recommend it!

2 I prefer audiobooks to physical books, but am slowlyΒ starting to love e-books too!

3 So far this year I have managed to read at least one 2018 release every month and I know that’s not a big accomplishment for everyone, but I’m still pretty chuffed with myself.

arrowiconphoenixfeather

tag_thequestions

1 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SONG RIGHT NOW?

Okay so I’m writing this back in May but my current favourite song would have to be either Proud of Your Boy from the Aladdin Broadway Musical soundtrack or The Middle byΒ Zedd, Maren Morris & Grey.

2 AT WHAT POINT DO YOU DECIDE HOW MANY STARS YOU GIVE A BOOK?

I think that while I’m reading the actual book I have a pretty clear idea of what it will end up being, but with some books, I will have to wait a few days and then rate it. But, I mean ratings change and sometimes we go back a year later and change something from a 5 to a 2, so it’s an ongoing and evolving process I guess.

3 WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE BLOGGERS?

4 WHAT BOOKS DO YOU WISH WOULD BE ADAPTED?

I think I’ve written a blog post about this but I would really love to see an Alex Rider tv show and I would really love to see an animated mini-series based on the I Hate Fairyland comic series because that series is one of my absolute favourites!

5 DO YOU LIKE ED SHEERAN?

Yes! He’s one of my favourites, I know that one of his main criticisms is that all of his songs sound the same because his voice doesn’t change much when he sings, but his lyrics are amazing so I’m not even mad. Also, I recommend Niall Horan’s album if you like Ed Sheeran’s music.

HOW IT ALL STARTED…

My story is pretty plain, I tried to start blogging a few years ago this May and I found I was either too busy and overwhelmed or I just wasn’t in the mood or right mindset. So, I put the idea aside and picked it up again in June 2016. My mental health was going to hell and I was really stressed by my home life and school so I knew I needed a distraction. And, now it’s May 2018 and I’m still here so yay? My blogging career started as a way for me to get out of my life and to just talk about books and now I am here reading arcs, talking to publishers and I even have blogger friends. I really don’t know where I would be without you guys and my blog!

A BIT OF ADVICE

Firstly: Make a schedule. This is pretty hypocritical coming from me because I pretty much have no schedule this year. But, from that experience, I can tell you that not having a schedule is, in my opinion, horrible. You don’t have to post the same thing every day each week, but you should at least plan to post things on specificΒ days or every x number of days. For me, next year (when I’ve kicked my ass into gear) my schedule will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday with spare posts going out on Saturdays.

Having a schedule shows consistency in your blog and helps to relieve stress if you’re into that kinda thing.

Secondly:Β Make friends. Talk to other bloggers, itΒ doesn’t matter where! You can chat on Bookstagram, Book Twitter or just by commenting on blog posts! Making friends with other bloggers, or even just chatting with them is a really great way to feel supported around the Blogosphere and the community. It’s a great feeling to know someone’s got your back, and book blogger friends are some of the best friends!

THE UNIQUE BLOGGER AWARD | MAY 2018

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with the Unique Blogger award. I honestly never expect to be tagged in these so this was a big surprise. A surprise that I have to thank Malanie @ Malanielovesfiction. Malanie is one of my favourite bloggers and I love her and her blog look so you guys should hop over to her blog and check out her posts, particularly this one and this one!

  • Nominate 8-13 bloggers and give them three questions in the spirit of sharing love and solidarity within our blogging family!

1 WHAT BOOK ARE YOU ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT EVEN THOUGH YOU READ IT A LONG TIME AGO?

The Rig (The Rig, #1)

THE RIG BY JOE DUCIE

I read The Rig way back in like 2013??? and I’m still thinking about it??? I have no idea why to be honest but I just love this book. It’s really interesting and I found it to be a really fun and creative novel. I have honestly never heard anyone (ever) talk about this book but I really loved it when I read it. I am hoping to re-read it again in the next couple of years and see if I would still enjoy it 5Β  years later.

2 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

Oh, oh my gosh. Thank you for asking but I have no idea. Maybe tomatoes? Or apples? All the foods that make me want to throw up apparently? Uhh, of the foods that are safe foe me to eat, probably strawberries? I don’t really eat much throughout the day but something that I like to snack on throughout the day is a bowl with some frozen strawberries (good for headaches) and some chia seeds (a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, antioxidants, iron, and calcium). I have a lot of stomach issues (mostly relating to my anxiety issues) so this sort of calms me down and it’s a simple way for me to try and help my stomach out and to make sure I’m actually taking care of myself because I’m actively thinking about what I’m putting into my body.

3 IF YOU COULD SAVE THREE BOOK CHARACTERS TO PASS ON FOR FUTURE HUMANITY, WHICH WOULD THEY BE & WHY?

If I could only save three books? But Malanieeeeee that’s too much pressure!! Honestly though, we all have such different tastes and we don’t all speak the one language? Can we guarantee that it will automatically get translated? What if I pick the first book in a series? Do they get the rest of the books with that first book? I really want to say Stalking Jack The Ripper because do you even know me, but honestly, it is not accurate in the least and I kind of would want it to be accurate if I was going to save a book based on a real person and real murders.

Soo.. I’ll take the big leap and say…

  1. Peter Pan by J M Barrie
  2. Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone by J K Rowling
  3. Persuasion by Jane Austen

I feel so bad for not including any of my faves but I feel like these are a given. And this may be a stretch but I’m assuming that people are saving their phones too (so like their Audible and Kindle accounts would survive, righttt???). And I’m also going to go ahead and assume that people will write books in the future, so hopefully, these books are somewhat inspiring to the future humans.

Middle Grade

I don’t think many of the bloggers I follow really read middle-grade, or at least if they do they don’t talk about it. But, I think I remember Kelly @ Kelly’s Rambles talking about her middle-grade tbr for this year back in January and that gave me a good idea of a bunch of books I might like to read with my brother this year, so I’ll nominate Kelly!

REBECCA’S QUESTIONS:

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE READ SO FAR IN 2018?

WHAT KIND OF UNJUST QUESTION IS THIS REBECCA LET’S BE REAL YOU ALREADY KNOW MY ANSWER.

Hunting Prince Dracula (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #2)

No question, Hunting Prince Dracula takes the cake. 2018 is cancelled because the only thing that will top this is book 3.Β This was the cherry on top of the 2018 cake and September needs to come immediately.

ARE YOU PARTICIPATING IN ANY READING CHALLENGES THIS YEAR?

Aside from my Goodreads challenge (52 books) this year I will also be participating in the Beat the Backlist Challenge.

WHO IS AN AUTHOR YOU’D BE HAPPY TO LEAVE BACK IN 2017?

I didn’t really read too many terrible books last year but there are definitely some authors I just don’t care about so I think I will go with Rainbow Rowell.

I just… so many people love her because of the anxiety rep in Fangirl but also she mocks anxiety on Twitter so what’s her end goal in all this??? Also, I know next to nothing about her other books but doesn’t one involve stalking for “love” and isn’t another one racist??

No thanks. Not my cup of tea.

I do read arcs though, I don’t read them that often.

My favourite arcs so far have been:

FRIDGES ANT FRIDGESStrange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer #1)Β The Sandcastle EmpireΒ They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

Strange The Dreamer – while I didn’t enjoy this as much as I would’ve liked, I felt honoured to be accepted for an arc.

The Sandcastle Empire – this has to be one of the only dystopians I’ve enjoyed since I stopped reading the genre a few years ago.

They Both Die At The End – again, being accepted for an arc of this book, was a total honour.

3 BOOK CHARACTERS WHO ARE MOST LIKE YOU?

THE QUESTIONS

01 If you could cross two of your favourite books/ settings/ series, which two would that be?

The Giver and The Sandcastle Empire. I don’t know why but I just reallyΒ like this combination. The giver has such a torn down dystopian no hope feel and by the end of Sandcastle Empire, the characters are starting to feel hopeful about the future. I would just love to see Jonas in the jungle with Eden.

02 Which book or series would you like to have a prequel of?

I feel like the obvious answer is Harry Potter but honestly, I don’t really care all that much, the only reason I would be reading it is purely for Remus. Though, I would mostly prefer to see a prequel to A Wrinkle in Time that focuses on Mrs Who, Whatsit and Which.

03 Which two authors would you love to see collaborate on a book together?

Honestly, I don’t really know. I feel like saying Meagan Spooner and Amie Kaufman is already so obvious. So, I might go withΒ Madeleine L’Engle and Becky Albertalii. I really love A Wrinkle in Time and IΒ love Simon Vs. The Homo Sapien’s Agenda so to have them work together would be so cool. I know that Madeleine actually died in 2007 but it would’ve been so cool.

The Questions:

01 What made you start a book blog? Now that you’re a book blogger, is it different to what you thought it would be?

I really have no idea to tell you the truth. I’ve always wanted to BookTube but with my family situation and the lack of a second of quiet in my home, unless I was filming at 3am it just wouldn’t work. Though, I do really enjoy readathon vlogs so I’ll probably try and do some of those when I move out of home (which won’t be for a few more years unfortunately), but I don’t actually intend to full on dive into BookTube because I really don’t think that’s the platform for me.

But I have always wanted to talk about books because my friends don’t really read as much as I do, and we rarely read the same stuff so when I found out about book blogging I thought I’d give it a go. I tried to give it a go a few years a go in 2014 or 2015, I don’t remember which, but I was too swamped with school at the time so it didn’t work out. But then I tried again a year later when I was in a better mind set and I’m still here so I guess it’s going well.

Blogging is definitely different from what I thought it would be. I really didn’t think about it before I dived in and I really didn’t take into account ho much time it would take out of my day and how often I would be thinking about my blog. I definitely don’t regret it though!

02 Do you read eBooks and listen to audiobooks?

UM YES. If you’ve been following me for a while, even if I don’t mention it a lot, I am a massive advocate for audiobooks, I love them. Usually, the majority of books I read are on audiobook. I used to not care about them but the more I hear people basing them (and ebooks for that matter), the more I feel really bad about how the book community is becoming.

03 Are you participating in any other yearly reading challenges apart from the Goodreads challenge?

Unfortunately, no. I’m barely even doing the GR challenge – my goal was 1 book, which obviously I knew I would surpass easily. I’m in my last year of high school and so I really didn’t want throw myself into lots of reading challenges, and in general I don’t really enjoy them anyway.

04 Do you participate in readathons?

YES. I am a massive fan of readathons, I think they’re a really great way to bond with the rest of the reading community, and in general they’re just really fun.

05 Where do you purchase the majority of your books?

Usually online – places like Wordery & Bookdepositroy. But generally in store I buy at second hand stores.

I generally read from libraries so if I’m buying a book full price in store (something I rarely do) it’s only because I’ve read it before and I know I want to re-read it later on.

06 Do you unhual books?

YES. I’ve actually done a massive unhaul today. I’ve found at least 50 books on my bookshelves that I’m no longer interested in and will be getting rid of asap.

07 Do you have a book buying budget/rules for book buying?

Not really, I rarely buy books full price with my own money. Usually all the books you guys see in my hauls were bought by other people or were gifts.

I definitely love buying books, but I rarely actually buy any (unless they were second hand) so I don’t really need a budget. I guess the only real rule I have is to only buy a book full price in store if I think I’m going to re-read it.

08 How long, on average, does it take for you to finish one book?

That is a fantastic question, one that I can’t really answer. If I really like a book it could take 1-2 days, but it could also take me 2 months, so who the hell knows. It’s the same with books I didn’t like, I could hate read a book in a few hours, or it could take me a few weeks.

That being said I usually read 1-2 books each week, so you decide.

09 Do you underline and mark-up your books?

No I don’t but I would like to start. I am constantly conflicted about this but in the end they’re my books and it would probably help me write better reviews for you guys. This is actually something that I used to be 2000 percent against, but I slowly coming around to it. I will probably start highlighting in my books since I already do that with my ebooks. The only problem is that I am majorly a library reader, so for this to work I will have to actually buy some new books.

10 Do you create TBR’s? If you do, are you good at sticking with them?

I do, I really love having short hand goals, so this really helps me, as a person. I really prefer to have a set list of things to do throughout the week, yes that does mean that I plan what I’m going to read per week the month before I actually read them, it’s weird I know. So yes, in summary I do make tbrs, I don’t always stick to them because there are always so many new books to get distracted by, but in general I manage to read at least a few of them per month.

11 What are your favourite blog posts to write?

I really enjoy writing How Tos and Discussion posts, but I realise that I really haven;t written many of them as of yet. Though, I am hoping to fix that later in the year, and I have planned SO MANY discussion posts for next year, I never knew I Β had so many opinions lol.

The Questions

1. If you had to chose a dystopian world to be sent to, which would it be and why?

I really don’t know, I mean it’s called a dystopian world for a reason. The first world that came to mind was The GiverΒ which is slightly concerning to me. I feel like I could cope with the world of The Giver, because 90% of the characters don’t have clue and just follow the rules and be happy with their little families. But at the same time there is so much wrong with the world of The Giver and while I LOVE structure and having rules, I do also value freedom.

2. What are your favorite blog posts to write and why?

Uhhh, my favourite posts to write are my DiscussionΒ and How To posts, but lately I have also started to FINALLY talk about tv shows, and have actually just introduced a fun new feature called TV Chats. I’m hoping this will let you guys get to know me, because I am a massive film nerd outside of my book life.

3. Under what circumstances would you DNF a book?

Honestly, this is the time of year where I feel the most inclined to DNF a book. At the moment I am completely exhausted. It’s currently 7pm while I’m writing this and I have already fallen asleep at my computer twice, go me!

Anywayyyyy, I usually dnf for different reasons, it really just depends on the book. For example, I DNF’d The Knife of Never Letting Go because I couldn’t stand the writing, I would still like to know what happens though (I’m probably just going to end up watching the movie lol). But with other books like The Kiss of Deception I was just bored and didn’t care for the plot.

4. What types of characters do you love most? (i.e. like genre but for characters, examples: strong female, hot love interest, nerds, pirates, if you can group them and love them, name them!)

I know it would make sense to say the nerdy character but in all the books with nerdy characters that I’ve read, so far I haven’t actually liked any of the characters.

I don’t know if this a genre of character per say but my favourite kind of character is one that grows throughout the book, or even better the character who really finds themself and has some top notch character development by the end of the series.

5. If you could teleport to any city in the world which would it be? If you had to make your way home on you own would it still be the same city?

This is going to sound really lame but I’ve always wanted to got to London. I can’t exactly explain the draw, but it’s always been a goal of mine to eventually go there. I have two travelling goals in life: 1. go to London 2. go toΒ The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

6. If you wrote a book, what would it be about? (i.e. the premise, type of characters, world?)

Here’s the thing, I am not a writer. I can write you an analytical essay in an hour or two and it won’t be half bad, but if you ask me to write you something even remotely creative, it just won’t happen.

However, for the sake of the question, if I were to write a book it would probably be fantasy. That’s all I can say, I know it’s boring but I really can’t think of any ideas right now.

7. If a band were to be featured in a fictional story, which would you want it to be and why?

Oh jeez, I don’t know when the last time I intentionally listened to a band was so this should be interesting.

I kind of think it would be interesting to see Panic! At The Disco in any kind of novel, but particularly a historical fiction or Fantastic Beasts kind of setting. They have awesome music and I really think it would be cool to see the two clash because they’re so different.

8. What book describes you best? (Is it a particular character, the cover or the story?)

I feel like this is such an obvious answer but Fangirl (in terms of the title) definitely describes me best because I am 100% a nerd. The book itself definitely does not apply to me (even though I have terrible anxiety) because I don’t write fanfiction (and rarely read it) and would never plagiarise because duh!

9. Favourite book universe and why? (Is it the friends you would have, the world you would live in or the abilities/circumstances you would be in?)

Like the above answer mine will be pretty lack luster here, but I would really love to be in the Wizarding World. The main reason though is purely because I would want to be a Magizoologist because the animals are always my favourite parts of th HP books.

10. What is your favourite book pet? Real pet? Ultimate pet?

My favourite book pet is a dog. My favourite real pet is a dog. My ultimate pet is a dog. I’m sensing a theme here.

11. If you’d humor me and look at this post I wrote about Korean dramas… which banner looks like it has a story you would be interested in reading/watching?

I’m assuming that a banner is the number and title?? (sorry I’m quite sleep deprived right now)

Honestly, no. 8 “Multiple Kinds of Relationships” sounds awesome. I enjoy any show or book that includes familial and friend relationships, and not just romantic relationships because I feel like often those other relationships can be so much more powerful than a romance.
