Hey guys! Lately, I have been obsessing over all the 2018 releases I have on my tbr! Every season I will write about my most anticipated releases for the newest upcoming season but, today I wanted to talk about the releases I am excited about right now (throughout the whole year).

UPDATE: I had the inspiration for this idea and wrote this post back in May and so there are some books on this list that I have read.

SPACE OPERA | OCTOBER 2018

Eurovision meets Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy. Does that not sound absolutely amazing? I am so down for reading this book. It sounds like a super fun and easy read and I can’t wait to pick it up. I have really high hopes for this one, I really hope I enjoy it!

RUNAWAYS VOL 1 | MAY 2018

I love comics and somehow I’ve never read about these characters?? Yeah, I don’t know how. I am not a massive fan of Rainbow Rowell’s books but I’ve never read any of her comics works so I really want to give it a try!

THE CHEERLEADERS | JULY 2018

I am in great need of a new YA Mystery/Thriller. I read People Like Us (2018 release) earlier this year and really really loved it. PLU reunited my love for YA mysteries and I really loved it so I am pretty excited for this because I have not read a mystery in FOREVER!

THE PERFECT MOTHER | MAY 2018

SPEAKING OF MYSTERY/THRILLERS… I am so excited to read this book, you guys it sounds absolutely fantastic and I am HYPED! Also, look at that cover??? Also, this book is becoming a movie and did I mention I’m excited?

GIANT DAYS | AUGUST 2018

As of writing this, I am currently 24% of the way through this as I have an arc (#blessmysoul). I have yet to read the comic series yet but I am super excited to finish this and then read the comics so I can review it for you guys!

TO KILL A KINGDOM | MARCH 2018

I am 99.9% sure this is a Little Mermaid retelling and while I have never actually watched the movie I am still excited about this book because I love the soundtrack. I am also really excited to get into this because it sounds really dark.

Just read this quote: “I’ve made a mistake. It started with a prince, as most stories do. Once I felt the thrum of his heart beneath my fingers, I couldn’t forget it.”

Are you sold yet? I sure as sh*t am.

FENCE VOL 1 | JULY 2018

I have never read anything by C S Pacat but I’ve heard that their books are pretty popular so I am hoping to try out their comics too, especially because the comic is in collaboration with Johanna The Mad who’s art I absolutely adore!

WHAT IF IT’S US | OCTOBER 2018

Two of my contemporary faves? Writing the same book? Hell yeah! I am really excited for this book because More Happy Than Not is one of the only books to ever make me cry and Simon VS The Homo Sapien’s Agenda is one of my favourite contemporary books ever. So, I am slightly excited about this book.

I HATE FAIRYLAND VOL 4 | AUGUST 2018

This is one of my stupidest and best comic series in all existence. It is fully disturbing and so incredibly colourful and full of murder and I love it and need volume 4 immediately!

ESCAPING FROM HOUDINI | SEPTEMBER 2018

Is anyone even surprised? I mean, I had to keep the hype going and include this because I AM SO EXCITED YOU GUYS DON’T EVEN KNOW!

I haven’t done one of these in soo long so it’s about time I actually let you guys know what I’m reading! Let me know if you want to see more of these posts more often on my blog!

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I am really digging the dark contemporaries at the moment so I figured this was pretty perfect for that category. I am only roughly 30 pages into this already and LOVING IT! I know it’s going to be a really hard read and it’s probably going to make me cry and I’m going to want to yell but, I am also really excited to continue it, I think it’s going to be a really important book.

WHAT DID YOU RECENTLY FINISH?

I recently saw the movie adaptation of The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and LOVED IT! So, pretty much straight after seeing the film and walked straight into the bookstore (something I never do) to buy it. I really enjoyed the book and will definitely be re-reading it in the future. Though, I will say that I did prefer the movie because the book was told in letters and sometimes that narrative format felt like it really stunted the story at times (also the ending felt so rushed!). I definitely recommend it if you haven’t picked it up yet!

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL READ NEXT?

Somehow I haven’t read this yet… I’ve owned this for a couple of months but never picked it up. So, it’s about time! I have no idea how I feel about this one, (because I’ve heard that the guard Iko hangs out with, is a brat) but I’m hoping that I will at least love the art style!

5 Books I Want To Read In Winter

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with the top 5 books I’d like to read this season! I’m not much of a seasonal reader, but, I am already freezing my touche off, so I tried to pick “warmer” reads that I figured would make me happy.

LEGENDARY

I will admit that we are only 2 days into Winter when I am writing this and I’m already listening to the audio. I haven’t had the time to go to the bookstore lately so, I caved and bought the audiobook. So far, I think it’s really interesting and I’ve been having a really fun time listening to it!

THREE DARK CROWNS

I am roughly 5 pages into this and so far I am mostly confused. There are soo many characters already and I’m hoping it starts to make sense soon. I don’t know if this is going to be my kind of book, but I am willing to give it a great shot!

THE SONG OF ACHILLES

I am planning on reading this as part of the Marvel-A-Thon as my Thor pick and I’m super excited to get to it! I have never heard a bad thing about this book and it’s been a while since I got a good cry in from a book so I think this book is well in order! I’m really excited about this one and can’t wait to get to it!

THE FINAL EMPIRE

I’d love to re-read the whole trilogy but I don’t know how unrealistic that is, so I would at least like to re-read book one. I love this trilogy and think Brandon Sanderson creates really amazing worlds so I’m super excited to finally re-read these books!

THE MERMAID

If you know anything about me, you know that I loved Christina Henry’s Lost Boy so of course, I am excited about her newest book! I will admit that I’ve never actually seen The Little Mermaid, but I am really intrigued to see if this is anything like that with a sort of crossover with The Greatest Showman. I honestly have no idea what this is about, other than that it’s written by Christina Henry.

Hey guys, today I am trying out something new! I know I keep saying that, but I have honestly never written one of these posts before. I read mostly from the library (physically or BorrowBox/OverDrive) and go there once or twice a week, I am literally on a first name basis with some of the librarians. Anyway, so I am thinking about doing some library hauls every couple of months so I can keep you guys on top of what I’m reading and so I can also show my support for libraries!

UPDATE: I wrote this in the middle of May so I might have read a few of these already.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and which book I should read next!

WHAT I CURRENTLY HAVE OUT FROM THE LIBRARY

THE WICKED COMETH

I read this in early May and I really thought I would love it. And I did for the first hundred pages but the rest of the book was a bit of a let down for me. I thought this was going to a really fun and interesting historical mystery that I would be gushing about for days. But, unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me. I think that if you are a fan of the scenery and general vibe of Jane Eyre or Persuasion you might enjoy this and if you like a mystery with a prominent love story this will be for you. I wish I would have loved this more but, unfortunately, there was too much romance and not enough actual mystery for me.

WARCROSS

As I am writing this I am 100 pages in and so far I am really enjoying it! I’ve only read Batman by the same author and I am really enjoying her writing style! I should have finished it by the time this post goes on if everything goes to plan!

BEFORE THE DEVIL BREAKS YOU

As I am writing this post I am roughly halfway through the book. I’ve been reading roughly 100 pages a day so I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to return the book next week. So far this is really good and I am really enjoying it. This is a really character based series, so if you like books that focus more on the characters you should check out this series!

LITTLE GONE GIRL

I picked this up from the library on a whim and I think I’ll give it a shot. It’s got really good ratings on Goodreads so I’m excited to get into a new Mystery Thriller!

THE SONG OF ACHILLES

I recently wrote a blog post about some of the popular YA books I still haven’t read and TSOA was on the list. My comments blew up and pretty much everyone told me that I have to pick it up asap, so I put it on hold straight away after seeing everyone’s positive reaction to the book!

THREE DARK CROWNS

This was also on my list and it also got a pretty positive reaction so I figured why not put it on hold at the same time? I’m sure I will pick it up soon after I finish Little Gone Girl! It feels like forever since I read a YA fantasy so I’m excited to get back into the genre!

THE HATE U GIVE

Yes, I know. Shame me, please. It came to my attention recently that I have somehow managed to not pick this up yet. I’ve just never had the chance, I’m trying to limit the number of books I buy and I have never seen at my library, so I just decided t bite the bullet and put on hold at my library!

THE LONELIEST GIRL IN THE UNIVERSE

This title is depressing and the premise is depressing and I am so excited. It’s basically Passengers but with a twist I guess? Actually, scratch that. What am I talking about? I haven’t even seen Passengers. *coughs* It’s what I imagine Passengers with a twist would be… I did a bad job of explaining that but, you should click on the cover and check out the blurb yourself!

BAD ROMANCE

I have recently found out that I really enjoy dark contemporary stories. I recently read and loved The Nowhere Girls & The Female of The Species. They are both pretty dark with some intense subject matter, much like this book and I’ve heard amazing things about Bad Romance so I figured I would give it a go!

HOW IT ALL STARTED…

My story is pretty plain, I tried to start blogging a few years ago this May and I found I was either too busy and overwhelmed or I just wasn’t in the mood or right mindset. So, I put the idea aside and picked it up again in June 2016. My mental health was going to hell and I was really stressed by my home life and school so I knew I needed a distraction. And, now it’s May 2018 and I’m still here so yay? My blogging career started as a way for me to get out of my life and to just talk about books and now I am here reading arcs, talking to publishers and I even have blogger friends. I really don’t know where I would be without you guys and my blog!

A BIT OF ADVICE

Firstly: Make a schedule. This is pretty hypocritical coming from me because I pretty much have no schedule this year. But, from that experience, I can tell you that not having a schedule is, in my opinion, horrible. You don’t have to post the same thing every day each week, but you should at least plan to post things on specific days or every x number of days. For me, next year (when I’ve kicked my ass into gear) my schedule will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday with spare posts going out on Saturdays.

Having a schedule shows consistency in your blog and helps to relieve stress if you’re into that kinda thing.

Secondly: Make friends. Talk to other bloggers, it doesn’t matter where! You can chat on Bookstagram, Book Twitter or just by commenting on blog posts! Making friends with other bloggers, or even just chatting with them is a really great way to feel supported around the Blogosphere and the community. It’s a great feeling to know someone’s got your back, and book blogger friends are some of the best friends!

1 WHAT BOOK ARE YOU ALWAYS THINKING ABOUT EVEN THOUGH YOU READ IT A LONG TIME AGO?

THE RIG BY JOE DUCIE

I read The Rig way back in like 2013??? and I’m still thinking about it??? I have no idea why to be honest but I just love this book. It’s really interesting and I found it to be a really fun and creative novel. I have honestly never heard anyone (ever) talk about this book but I really loved it when I read it. I am hoping to re-read it again in the next couple of years and see if I would still enjoy it 5 years later.

2 WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FOOD?

Oh, oh my gosh. Thank you for asking but I have no idea. Maybe tomatoes? Or apples? All the foods that make me want to throw up apparently? Uhh, of the foods that are safe foe me to eat, probably strawberries? I don’t really eat much throughout the day but something that I like to snack on throughout the day is a bowl with some frozen strawberries (good for headaches) and some chia seeds (a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, fibre, antioxidants, iron, and calcium). I have a lot of stomach issues (mostly relating to my anxiety issues) so this sort of calms me down and it’s a simple way for me to try and help my stomach out and to make sure I’m actually taking care of myself because I’m actively thinking about what I’m putting into my body.

3 IF YOU COULD SAVE THREE BOOK CHARACTERS TO PASS ON FOR FUTURE HUMANITY, WHICH WOULD THEY BE & WHY?

If I could only save three books? But Malanieeeeee that’s too much pressure!! Honestly though, we all have such different tastes and we don’t all speak the one language? Can we guarantee that it will automatically get translated? What if I pick the first book in a series? Do they get the rest of the books with that first book? I really want to say Stalking Jack The Ripper because do you even know me, but honestly, it is not accurate in the least and I kind of would want it to be accurate if I was going to save a book based on a real person and real murders.

I feel so bad for not including any of my faves but I feel like these are a given. And this may be a stretch but I’m assuming that people are saving their phones too (so like their Audible and Kindle accounts would survive, righttt???). And I’m also going to go ahead and assume that people will write books in the future, so hopefully, these books are somewhat inspiring to the future humans.

COMIC BOOK DAY 2018 // ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL & DINO OBSESSED DAY

Hey guys, today I am coming to you with a bit of a different post. And I know I say that all the time butttt, it is different so whatevs. Today I’m going to be talking about my 2018 Free Comic Book Day experience (hint: ’twas good). For me, FCBD was yesterday but I think for those of you guys in the USA it should have been today. If that makes sense??? Either way, FCBD is aways on the first Saturday of May. It’s 11pm for me right now so I don’t know if this is even coming up in enough time to participate, but I tried I swear. (Let me know if I need to schedule my post at an earlier time next year)

HOW MY DAY STARTED

So my day started at 7:00am and technicallyyyyy I didn’t actually get up until 7:30am but whatcha gonna do??? I mean, it’s early on a Saturday and I’m tired so fight me I guess?? Honestly, I’m not a morning person but I was so excited for the day that I did actually wake up and stay up (which has never in my life happened).

So, I woke up at 7, got the fam ready and we were on the bus by 9:15. And by 9:50ish we finally got to the comic store only to discover this: THERE WAS A LINE

And roughly 1 and a half hours of Brisbane sun later we finally got into the store! Basically, I got in the line at 9:45 and left the comic book store at a quarter to 12. It was a damn good day.

So what free comics did I get?

SO WHAT DID I DO FOR THE REST OF THE DAY?

So, I did plan to buy some comics on the day because there is always a sale for FCBD and I had a voucher. They didn’t have any of the comics I had on my wishlist but, I did manage to find a really fun and brightly coloured comic featuring a young mc and a dinosaur. I don’t know if you guys know this about me, but I love dinosaurs and I seriously cannot contain myself because I am so excited to read these comics (I got volumes 1 & 2 btw).

I didn’t really have any plans for the rest of the day, but I rarely go into the city (I doubt I’ve been in the last 6 months) so I figured why not go to Dymocks (the Aus equivalent of Barnes & Noble) and take a look at some of the books. I ended up using a gift card and buying Circe by Madeline Miller and it came with a really cool Circe tote bag and I’m not even mad that I paid full price because I honestly can’t even remember the last time I bought a book in store so it’s not like my wallet is really hurting because if it.

And because I took my mum and youngest brother we then, of course, we had t go to Big W and look at all the cheap-ass DVDs when we stumbled across A Batman DVD featuring Jack The Ripper and obviously we had to get it???

So, overall, the day was a success and I am pretty excited about all the things I bought. It was kind of fun to be on a long bus trip and to properly experience nerdom and the feeling of being in a long line with a bunch of people who are there to do the same thing as you. Sort of in the way, it was really cool to be in the Infinity War line on April 25th!

READING ALL THE ARCS // I CAN DO THIS, RIGHT?

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a tbr?? Maybe?? I’m not sure, actually, let’s call it a goal. If I call it a tbr then I won’t end up reading anything s let’s go with a goal.

For the month of April, I will be reading all *arcs. This year I’m trying to put less of a reading focus on ARCs but this month they’ve been stressing me out so I think April will be a good thing for me. I don’t know how it will go because my younger brother will have the first two weeks off school so I will probably have no time to myself at the beginning of the month.

In April I aim to read 5 e-arcs. Some of these came out last year but some of them are also 2018 releases so I am pretty excited about the mix of new and backlist books.
