SERIES CRACKDOWN READATHON: COME ALONG WITH ME!

Series (4)

Hey guys, so the Crackdown Readathon started on the 9th and today you’re coming along with me during the readathon!Β

Here are my live updates during the readathon!

arrowicon

Remember, if it’s in red, it’s a link!

This readathon focuses on series so hopefully, I’ll be able to do well. I have been doing pretty well with reading series so far this year and I would like to keep that trend going this month and I think this readathon will really help!

MY READATHON TBR

ANTThe Hammer of Thor (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #2)Β The Ship of the Dead (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #3)Β Renegades (Renegades, #1)Β Silver Surfer, Vol. 5: A Power Greater Than CosmicΒ Alex + Ada, Vol. 2

THE HAMMER OF THOR / SHIP OF THE DEAD / RENEGADES / SILVER SURFER VOL 5 / ALEX + ADA VOL 2

dotbreaker

MY GAME PLAN

  • The Hammer of Thor – 471 pages
  • Ship of The Dead – 423 pages
  • Renegades – 556 pages
  • Silver Surfer – 176 pages
  • Alex + Ada – 128 pages

I have the audiobooks of the last two Magnus Chase books in my Audible account so I’m hoping I’ll be able to get to them since I read book 1 last year and loved it!

Since this is a 10-day readathon I also have 2 comics on my list, though I will probably read more than 2! Also, I currently have Renegades on hold at the library which I hope to read last if I have extra time after finishing Magnus Chase.

FEB 09th 12:01 AM

I’m going to start this readathon properly and finally start a readathon at the beginning! I’ve got my Magnus Chase & The Hammer of Thor audiobook on and I’m going to make some coffee!

CAFFEINE COUNTER: i

12: 59AM

I have almost been reading for aΒ full hour, and I officially love this series. Riordan is really succeeding in making his books more diverse. We just got introduced to Alex Fierro – a transgender and gender fluid character. There is also a deaf character and a Muslim character.

1:07AM

I’m only on chapter 11 of Hammer of Thor but I’m pretty tired so I think I’ll finish my coffee and go to bed. (I ended getting to page 100 before going to sleep)

NOON
Okay, so technically I woke up at 9am but I’ve been reading so… sorry?

So far I am 165 pages in and loving Magnus Chase! My favourite is, of course, Hearthstone!

12:15Β PM

Time to do some errands! I’ve got to go all the way across town to hand in some paperwork and then I’m going to pick up my brothers from school. Fridays are usually pretty busy days for me so I don’t know how much I will actually get read today.

4:56 PM

Okay, so I’m back. I’ve run my errands and bought some groceries (bread, milk…etc.)

I have also just made my dinner (a thick berry smoothie) which tasted pretty good tbh.

9:00 PMΒ

I’m getting a bit tired at this point so I think I’m going to continue reading the book but I think I’ll play Spider-Man Homecoming in the background.

CAFFEINE COUNTER: ii

10:00 PM

THIS MOVIE IS BOMB AND I’M HAVING FEELINGS

Currently: 366 pages in, out of 472

dotbreaker

The Ship of the Dead (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #3)

FEB 10th 10:30 AM

I’ve technically been awake for a few hours but I thought I would give myself a few hours to make breakfast and relax before I got stuck into reading for the day.

3:47 PM

I am really enjoying this so far and I’m really enjoying the character Alex Fierro! So far I’m roughly 30 chapters in and pretty sure I can finish this one tonight!

CAFFEINE COUNTER: iii

7:48 PM

I just finished The Ship of The Dead, which I loved!! I think I’m going to read a comic, take a shower and go to bed because guess who has their course at 8am tomorrow! (On a Sunday, who does that??)

dotbreaker

FEB 11th 4:00 PM

Okay so I haven’t actually read anything today, which honestly feels pretty weird but I only just finished my course so I think that’s okay.

10:07 PM

So I have been in a pool for 6 hours today and I am exhausted so I’m going to bed. See you tomorrow when I will hopefully be more excited about life/ awake and ready to read.

dotbreaker

FEB 12th 10:02 PM

And it’s 10pm and I still haven’t read anything. Two whole days of not reading anything, who have I become? (tired and hangry, that’s who)

dotbreaker

FEB 13th 10:47

So… (gosh, why does this feel awkward?) it occurred to me this morning that I haven’t really been updating you guys on what I’ve been doing, reading or otherwise.

This morning all I’ve done is watch any booktube videos that have come out this morning, made breakfast (mango smoothie because it’s hot af in my house & raisin toast, though the way I “toast” you can barely call it that) and I’ve also been going through my Feedly and checking out all the new blog posts.

Reading-wise: Yesterday, I was planning on picking up my arc of Ace of Shades but the publisher sent me the wrong book so I think I will give Renegades a go in an hour or two.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1)

12:30 PM

Honestly, guys I don’t think I’m feeling the reading game today. I tried to read a page or two of Renegades but I wasn’t feeling it so I think I’ll pick it up in a day or two. I have been feeling like I’m picking up Percy Jackson again though, so I found the audio on YouTube and I think I’ll listen to it and write some blog posts.

Speaking of, is there anything you guys would like me to write?

2:20 PM

I am roughly 2 hours into the audiobook and somehow only 6 chapters in. This astounds me, is this what it feels like to listen to a book on normal speed? I do not care for it, but it’s okay because I love Percy Jackson.

dotbreaker

FEB 14th 12:18 PM

The Magic Misfits (Magic Misfits #1)

You guys I am everywhere today. I spent the morning trying to read The Magic Misfits and I think I will try and finish it throughout the week but I really don’t think I’m going to love it. BUTTTT, I also just did the dishwasher and while I was doing that I started listening to The Cruel Prince. Sooo… what am I actually currently reading you may ask?

CR: The Lightning Thief, The Magic Misfits, The Cruel Prince

I also have work at 3 so I think I’ll take The Magic Misfits with me because I usually get there a bit early. But, until then I’ll listen to The Cruel Prince.

9:25

Hi! It’s been a minute. I’ve obviously been home from work for a few hours at this point and so far I’ve only gotten 110 pages through The Magic Misfits and so far I’m not too impressed. I think in an hour or two I might go to sleep because I think I got a few too many kicks to the ribs at work today and I’ feeling quite sick at this point.

dotbreaker

FEB 15th 11:01 AM

Hey Guys, guess who’s making an effort to update more regularly!

So I only read about 30 pages last night before going to sleep but I have been reading since 9:30 this morning and I’m roughly 170 pages in and I think I’ll be able to finish in an hour or so. I’m definitely feeling a lot better after getting some sleep, which is a relief since I have work again this afternoon – it’s only one class though so I should be able to get some reading in while I wait for my brothers to finish their swim lessons.

Until the next update, I think I’ll snack on some leftover rice and bean and try to finish The Magic MIsfits!

12:37 PM

And I’ve finally finished The Magic Misfits and I think I’m going to review this one so you can look forward to my review after this post comes out!

I think I’m also going to do the dishwasher soon and listen to The Cruel Prince while I do that and I might eat some fruit or something because I keep forgetting to eat substantial food.

dotbreaker

FEB 16th /Β FEB 17th /Β FEB 18th

So… I have not read anything. Not a single thing. I think I’ve just been too stressed about other things and I’ve definitely been sidetracked as the readathon has gone on.

I did go shopping today (18th) so I definitely think I will be able to get back into reading soon because I’m quite excited about the newer books that I bought (it was a 2 for $20 sale, guys I got excited).

While the readathon has not panned out the way I thought it would, I am still happy with what I’ve read. I finished the Magnus Chase trilogy which I’ve been meaning to do, I read my first middle-grade of the year and I started a newly hyped YA book, though I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

LET’S GET HYPED FOR FEMMEUARY!

Hey guys, today I’m coming atΒ you with a new post, this time talking about a month long challenge, or theme, depending on how you tackle the experience. So, first thing’s first: what drew you to this blog post. The title. So… Femmeuary… What is Femmeuary I hear you ask. Well, Femmeuary is basically just a month (February) dedicated to respecting and appreciating women.Β

And, I will be doing so through books and possibly film if I have to time. I would like to watch a movie or two directed by a woman, though as I write this I cannot think of a single film so I would for sure appreciate your suggestions!

dotbreaker

Click on the authors’ names to go to the Goodreads pages!

ANTS ANBatman: Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2)Β Truly Devious (Truly Devious, #1)Β Renegades (Renegades, #1)Β Queens of GeekΒ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2)

MARIE LU / MAUREEN JOHNSON / MARISSA MEYER / JEN WILDE / J. K. ROWLING

Like I mentioned before, I would like to make a real effort in February to really read more books by female authors. I have a bunch of other books I might like to get to like Inkheart, Unearthed orΒ The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet. All the books I’ve talked about in this post are written by women and are all pretty high up on my tbr. My reading progress was pretty impressive (in my opinion, anyway) in January so hopefully, February will be equally as fun!

arrowicon

GLOW Poster

In Femuary I would also like to give watching Netflix’s tv show, Glow a go! This is a tv show about female pro wrestlers and my best friend has been recommending it to me for ages and now I need to watch it. This show has a majority female cast and I’m so excited for it!

A FEMUARYΒ COSY READING NIGHT

In FebruaryΒ Lauren from Lauren And The Books will be running her Winter Cosy Reading Night which is a readathon that goes from 7-10pm and is all about being chilled out, comfortable and just reading and having a good time. You can watch Lauren’s video here.

arrowicon

OTHER IDEAS FOR FEMUARY

I also want to be able to support female booktubersΒ and really help to boost their views as much as I can myself. I’ve started doing this recently and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve been going through my home section or subscriptions list and picked a booktuber and just added a whole bunch (10 or so) of their videos to my Watch Later tab and did this with a whole lot of booktubers. This was they get more views and I have something to listen to in the background when I’m writing my blog posts.

MINI READATHONS FOR THE WIN!

Hey guys, back in December I posted the result of a 24-hour readathon I did by myself and today I was feeling a bit bored and like I really wanted to do something myself and have a productive day. Since my first readathon went so well I decided I would live write my readathon again for you guys.Β

READATHON TBR

Zenith (The Androma Saga, #1)Β Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

ZENITH / HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE

dotbreaker

MY GAME PLAN

This morningΒ while I was no the way to a work meeting I got an email saying I was accepted for an e-arc for Zenith on Netgalley so I decided wI would like to have it read by soon as it comes out on the 16th of January (just over 10 days from now). I also chose Harry Potter to listen to as I am reading a Harry Potter book every month this year.

Zenith – 544 pages

Harry Potter – 332 pages

arrowicon

9:30 – 11:00 AM

I wanted to do a full 24-hour readathon today but I couldn’t because I had a work meeting this morning. (Spoiler: it was boring af)

NOON

Finally home after work, can’t believe I have to go back next week.

drinkcounter2.1

12:20 PM

Okay, so I haven’t actually started reading yet but my Harry Potter audiobook is downloading onto my phone and I am catching up on Booktube videos

12:30 PM

I have finally started listening to the audiobook (the Stephen Fry version because I’m no fiend) and I’ll listen to it as I make lunch and brainstorm some blog posts.

Lunch: Salad (lettuce, [cucumber, capsicum, red onion, salt & pepper all marinated with lime], tomato)

2:09 PM

I’m halfway through chapter 5 of Harry Potter and I think I might pause it once I’ve finished the chapter so I can write a review of start Zenith.

4:00 PM

Okay so I just shut down my computer and sat down to really dive into Zenith but I got 1% of the way in and quickly realised that I am not going to love this book. Zenith reads like an overly descriptive author’s first book, it feels unedited and rushed and who the hell names a characterΒ Androma Racella??

drinkcounter2.2

4:43 PM

I’m hoping to pick Zenith back up later but until then I think I’ll listen to HP and write a blog post or two.

6:22 PM

Lee Jordan’s Quidditch commentary isΒ πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

7:30 PM

TIME FOR DINNER

(Pasta with spinach and tomatoes – Sauce: Sundried tomato with a ricotta base)

8:37 PM

I am currently on chapter 12 of Harry Potter and doubt I’ll finish it today so I think I’ll just pick up Zenith in an hour or two because I may or may not have fallen down the void of HP conspiracy theories.

drinkcounter2.3

10:38 PM

So… instead of reading Zenith I decided to be responsible and pack because I’m going away tomorrow. Whoops?

And after that, I wrote some blog posts because I won’t have access to my laptop/ wifi for the rest of the week. 😭

Currently listening to: Harry Potter (chapter 13)

10:55 PM

Finished chapter 13 of HP but because I have to go for a longass drive tomorrow I figure it’s probably time to go to bed now. However, I am hoping to pick Zenith up again tomorrow!

dotbreaker

THE RESULT

  • I managed to write some blog posts and take some stress off my mind
  • I packed my bags
  • I started Zenith and got three quarters of the way through Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

WILL I CONTINUE?

As you guys know, I am going on a mini vacation today (when this is being posted) so I will be taking Zenith, Aquaman Vol 1 (from my last readathon) and my copy of All My Friends Are Superheroes. Hopefully, I will be able to get a large way through Zenith as I didn’t manage to get past the first chapter throughout my readathon.

I MADE MY OWN 24 HOUR READATHON???

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a different type of post, one I’ve never written before. Today I am sort of liveΒ writing my 24 hour readathon except it won’t really be live because I’ll beΒ posting it the next day if that makes sense???Β

arrowicon

READATHON TBR

fridges fridges fridgesAquaman, Volume 1: The TrenchΒ ArtemisΒ The Inexplicable Logic of My Life

AQUAMAN VOL 1 /Β ARTEMIS / THE INEXPLICABLE LOGIC OF MY LIFE

dotbreaker

MY GAME PLAN

As you can see by my tbr, I have a shorter book, a comic and a longer book (which I have already started) so it’sΒ  petty standard readathon tbr.

Aquaman – 144 pages

Artemis – 305 pages

The Inexplicable Logic of My Life – 452 pages

So why did I choose these books? Well, I am trying to prep myself for my reading goals next year. Next year I will be trying to only read the books that I own and library books, excluding arcs. This year I bought way too many books so I want to try and knock them off of my tbr shelf since there are roughly 40 on there.

All of these books are from the library and because Artemis is a new release it is a fastback aka. read it in 7 days or face the wrath of the library. So, because I borrowed it on the 22nd I want to have it read in the next day or two.

I also would like to read Aquaman volume 1. I recently watched Justice League and really enjoyed a certain character so now I need to read every comic and since the film is coming out Dec next year I really need to get started on distracting myself from how excited I am about that film. Also, if I end up with any extra time I hope to read more of The Inexplicable Logic of My Life or I will just pick up another comic.

arrowicon

MIDNIGHT

At Midnight I picked my tbr so I could dive straight into my reading as soon as I woke up.

11:00 AM

I woke up around 9:30 and then made my typical breakfast (tuna, feta, cherry tomatoes and corn because I’m fun) and started my audiobook for Artemis around 11am.

I then made a coffee, I don’t actually drink coffee that often but I think it’s okay for today?

caffeinecounter1

NOONΒ

Artemis (page 50) –Β I definitely do not like Artemis as much as I loved The Martian. I am not digging the way Weir writes his women, and I think he should just stick to his own gender since he clearly knows nothing about women.

1:30 PM

As I listen to my audiobook (I am roughly 90 pages into Artemis) I am writing this blog post (my aim is for it to be like a written vlog if that makes sense?) along with my 2018 Blogging Goals post which hopefully will go up at the beginning of January.

2:30 PM

Artemis (page 162) – This is now a murder mystery? What??

caffeinecounter2

3:00 PMΒ

Time for a half hour break to plan to the menu for Christmas! I live in QLD, Aus so Christmas Day is usually around 40Β°, so add global warming to that and I am in a hellscape of heat.

So far I’m thinking:

  • Watermelon salad (feta, mint, watermelon)
  • Salad (Salad mix, carrot, beetroot, red onion, avocado, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, peach)
  • Mango gelato (frozen banana, frozen mango, water)
  • Salmon
  • Eggnogg because duh

I usually take care of the cold foods for Christmas and I have two younger brothers who, like me, prefer to eat colourful food, so I think I’m good so far. For Christmas, I try to make simple foods like salads (I make awesome salads ngl) and gelato. I have two brothers, both very different to each other: the elder is eating less and less as he gets older and is quickly becoming vegetarian (which means he eats even less than he used to) like me, and the other will eat anything he gets his hands on. And so, to meet in the middle I use a lot of fruit in my cooking: bases, flavour fillers or marinades.

To keep it cool I find fruit is also a really great cooking tool. You can use them in any kind of salad (no, I’m not weird) and they go with pretty much anything. But this year I’m staying lowkey and just making some gelato. My brothers both really enjoy mango and gelato is really simple and quick to make (five minutes with some frozen fruits and a blender) so it’s really easy to make. I could also make some raspberry gelato if I feel the urge.

5:00 PM

Currently writing a survey because I’m fun. Also, Artemis is boring afΒ and I could not are less, not great for a readathon.

5:30 PM

Just finished Artemis.

In Summary: 4/10 Would not recommend

11:00 PM

Okay, so I think at this point I am probably not going to pick anything else up. I was really hoping to read Aquaman but I think Artemis has tired me out and now I don’t really want to read anything else today. I think I will definitely be picking up a comic or two and hopefully the audiobook of Call Me By Your Name tomorrow while I prepare all the food for Christmas day.

RUSH HOUR READATHON TBR

Hey, guys, today I’m coming at you with a bit of a different tbr than usual. Usually, on the first of every month I post my tbr, but this month I’m only posting my Rush Hour Readathon. I’m really excited to dive into all these books and you can read more about my readathon here!

I designed this readathon mainly just go declutter my tbr shelf, and to read the books that have been on my tbr for the longest time. Basically, in order to pick out the books for my tbr I just went to my Goodreads shelf and tried to pick out books that I wanted to read that had been there the longest. Also, it turns out that the first three books on my tbr I actually own physically, and the last two I have an audio, so I think that’s enough incentive for me to kick my butt into gear.

arrowicon

DATES

01st – 08th October

arrowicon

THE CHALLENGES

01 Read the book that’s been on your Goodreads or physical TBR the longest.

You You by Caroline Kepnes

I was given this book way back in 2014 or 2015, and was soo excited to read it but then I got into a massive book slump, and so naturally, we are now in the back end of 2017 and I still haven’t picked it up.

02 Read a book by an author you’ve been meaning to read more of.

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard, #1) Magnus Chase and The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan

I really wanted to put a Game of Thrones novel for this prompt but I thought it would be better if I actually started Magnus Chase, as I own the first two books and my brother has also read and loved them.

03 Read a book from a series you’ve been meaning to continue/ finish.

Opal (Lux, #3)

Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I have only read books 1 and 2 and I have had the series on my shelves for years so I think it’s about time I actually continued the series, as I am still really interested in what happens to the characters.

The Martian Shadow and Bone (Grisha, #1) The Martian OR Shadow & Bone

I wasn’t too sure about what I wanted to read for this challenge so I chose two different books which I have audiobooks for. Whichever book I choose, I know I will love it!

RUSH HOUR READATHON ANNOUNCEMENT

This is more of a readathon for me than anything else but please feel free to join in! I’ve found that towards the end of the year I either feel really inspired to read or I just sort of flop. And since this is my last year of high school I know I won’t have too much energy for readathons in the next month or two so I figured why not just do it at the very start of the term!

GOAL OF THE READATHON

I feel like all of us have pretty intense tbr piles and I have to admit that my Goodreads to be read shelf is pretty big. So my main goal with this readathon is to try and knock out some of the books that have been on my shelf for way too long.

I have books on my tbr shelf that have been there since I made my account, so I figure this is an easy way to help clean up my shelves.

You guys don’t have to join in but I would love it if you did! I’m really excited for this readathon and have high hopes t knock some of the older books off of my tbr shelf, that way I can replace them with all the new releases coming out next year!
