I SAW ALADDIN THE MUSICAL AND I AM STILL SCREAMING // I review musicals now???

au_rich_aladdin_brisbane_1_6dd22af2

Hey guys, today I am reviewing a musical??? Because I’m a professional adult now??? I saw this on my birthday at the end of April and I loved it. I turned 18 this year so this was a really cool present, especially because I got to see the show with my mum.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION

I loved this show. I found the first half really interesting, mostly because I hadn’t seen the movie in such a long time that I honestly didn’t remember any of the plot points. The first half sets up new story parts than the film – for example, Aladdin’s mother died 2 months before the story is set. I also really enjoyed the little changes in the story like how they changed Aladdin’s friend Abu into his three friends (Omar, Babkak & Kassim). And, I loved all of them and their songs were fantastic!

THE CHARACTERS

Oh my god, who cares about the plot because the characters and sets are what make this show as good as it is. The guy who played the Genie was fantastic and I loved him, he was definitely my favourite character of them all! I also really enjoyed Aladdin, and funnily enough considering the story is named after him, I’ve never actually liked the character of Aladdin before. This version of the character had more depth to him and was more relatable. His song, Proud of Your Boy, in particular, is my favourite because it shows that he’s not this ridiculously cocky character like in the original film.

I will admit that I wasn’t big on Jasmine but, maybe that’s just because she felt like a slightly fierce character. Maybe?? I don’t know, but honestly, I did still really enjoy her and we did also get to know her character more in the show too. If the characters in the new live-action Disney film are anything like the characters in this show then I will definitely not be mad.
THE MUSIC

I love music from musicals, almost more than normal music??? And the soundtrack for this musical is absolutely fantastic! My favourite is of course, Proud of Your Boy but I have been known to play Prince Ali on repeat in the last week. The music is fantastic so you guys should definitely check it out (it’s on YouTube).

LAST THOUGHTS

I’m so happy I saw this show. If you live in AUS and you have the chance you really should go see it. I’m sorry to all you US people, but the Australian cast actually sounds so much better. whoops. I guess I’m a Musical snob now (lol I have been for years though so it’s okay?)

I just loved this show. They really made an effort to make the show enjoyable for all of watching the show. I mean?? There were Tim Tam jokes? He had VEGEMITE?? He made a joke about Ipswich and I swear to god, the entire crowd collectively snorted.

PROUD OF YOUR BOY IS THE BEST SONG OF EVER. Seriously, this song made m like Aladdin. Also, this has nothing to do with anything but that guy who plays Aladdin in the Brisbane show is hella pretty and god damn his voice is 💯💯💯

I am officially excited for the live action. It makes me think the live action will be something like the musical not even mad. If they include Proud of Your Boy I will cry, damn you, Disney.

Avengers: Infinity War Poster

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS MARVEL MOVIES

reviewthereview

10 years and 18 movies later we finally have him. Thanos is here and he’s ready to make shit hit the fan. Avengers Infinity War is the 19th ever Marvel movie and as you guys probably already know, I am quite the superhero fanatic. I love Thanos as a character so, I was cautious but optimistic and if I’m honest (and without giving anything away) I felt like this movie was slightly ridiculous, but isn’t that what Marvel is all about?

I will say before I properly get into my review if you are planning on seeing this movie you better go pee beforehand. You should bring a bottle of water and be prepared. I’m not a movie snacker but, if you like to snack you should bring some chips because you’ll be sitting in the cinema for a while. I was in the cinema + the long-ass premiere line for roughly 3 and a bit hours so I am so glad I had my water bottle with me.

I would also suggest tissues, just in case, because God knows I let my tears fall.

So, what did I actually think of the movie?

I don’t know. I think I will have to watch some reviews to really determine my opinion. From a comic nerd pov, I did really love this but, I honestly don’t know how everyone else will feel about it. If you love the MCU you will probably love this movie because ALL MY FAVES ARE IN THIS MOVIE I AM SO HAPPY BUT ALSO SO SCARED OML! But, if you’re just coming because your sibling or friend is dragging you, in all honesty, you may not enjoy it.

This movie is a lot. Like, A LOT. This movie has so many characters in it and at points, I found it quite overwhelming. Without spoiling I felt like some of the characters were acting a tad out of character which was a bit weird. Also, my main problem with this movie was that it felt like I was watching 5 movies all at once. It was like reading a multi-pov book that switched to the next pov in the middle of a scene which really started to bother me by the end because I would completely forget about some character even if they had just been in the middle of an epic battle 10 minutes ago. This movie is a lot, but it’s totally worth it. It was a really fun and wonderfully acted first part of this story and I really can’t wait for Avengers 4.

That being said, I came out of the cinema, 3 hours later and I felt excited but tired. The film looked fantastic (and v shiny) but, I pretty much called it all beforehand, which is one of the only downsides to being a Marvel nerd. This movie was pretty mediocre but, if you are a Marvel fan and you really love these characters I really do think you will like this movie.

THE AFTER CREDITS SCENE: *NON-SPOILER*

Let’s just say that it was pretty lacklustre but I am more than excited for what’s to come.

I kind of feel like MCU movies as a whole are overrated. But, as a comic and general, marvel nerd seeing 10 yrs of films come to life is what really made this movie for me. If nothing else, I think others will enjoy this movie for the laughs and the sheer ridiculous amount of superheroes in this film.

reviewwillicontinue

I’m 19 movies in and not quitting now.

Will I see it again though? Well, let’s put it this way, if I wasn’t already planning on taking my brothers to see it then no, I probably wouldn’t pay to see it again in the cinemas. I did enjoy it but I already got to experience it on the first day in the first session. I got to join the queues of people theorising about it in the line before we went in. I kind of don’t want to tarnish that memory?
