August Favourites | 2017

Hey guys today I’m coming at you with my favourites for this month! I had a pretty mellow month, but I did get a surprising amount of books read.

NEWmonthlyfav_youtube

This month I really didn’t get too into Youtube this month, in fact it felt like more of a chore to watch videos (which I know sounds terrible), but I was ridiculously busy and too tired to really concentrate and they felt like such a distraction.

But I did get pretty hooked onΒ TheBookHoarder’s vlogs. Dana is a really lovely and upbeat woman and she’s been really successful in her career while also still going to Uni so it was so nice to watch her in her videos. I definitely recommend her in general, but particularly if you ever need to bring your mood up or if you’re feeling a bit sad.

NEWmonthlyfav_bookofthemonth

I don’t really have a specific favourite book of the month because I actually ended up reading a lot of really great novels this month. I actually managed to read a bunch of Adam Silvera’s novels this month and kind of got obsessed. One of my first reads of the month was of an e-arc of They Both Die At The End (my review will be out early next month) and then I read More Happy Than Not later on in the month and I LOVED IT.

I also read Down Among The Sticks and Stones right after More Happy Than Not and I also really loved it, in fact I read the entire book on my bus rides on a school excursion. I should have a review up for it early October… I really don’t know what’s happening, I usually hate reviews, but this month I’ve actually planned and written quite a few.

NEWmonthlyfav_other

Most of you guys probably know this because I feel like I’ve really gone on about it lately, but this month I did the QCS. I really have to say that I am so excited that it is finally over and done with.

Also, I officially only have two weeks of this term left. Actually next week is my exam block (oh, joy) and then a week after that I have two weeks of holidays and I am honestly going to just blog, read and catch up on all the sleep I missed this month.

August TBR

I’m writing this at the very back end of July so I don’t know if I will actually read in August but basically all month I’ve been reading an e-arc of Adam Silvera’s newest book, They Both Die At The End. As I’m writing this I’m only 51% of the way in and I’m not as in love with it as I thought it would be but I am still enjoying it.

They Both Die at the End

If I have the chance to get any reading done this month I am planning to try and finish They Both Die At The End. But if I’m not enjoying the book or need a break I do have a few comics on hold at the library.

What are you reading this month? Have you read an Adam Silera novel yet?

NEWmonthlyfav_youtube

This month I got really into readathon vlogs, I’ve been obsessively watching them as I write posts and wo my homework. I can’t explain the draw to them, but I think it’s purely because I have gotten really into readathons lately, in fact I actually did two readathons this month.

This month I got pretty obsessed with Booksandlala’s readathon vlogs (she’s awesome and her son is adorable). And Booktube-a-thon was this month so of course there was 100x more readathon vlogs for me to watch.

This month I binge-watched Lucifer, which I LOVED! It’s a truly fantastic show, literally about the devil solving crime and I absolitely adore it!Β I also watched a few more episodes of NCIS LA this month, in between classes. These two shows are actually what got me to write my first TV Chats post.

This month I also saw three movies in the cinema, apparently I had more spare time than expected over the holidays. I finally saw Cars 3 (WHICH I LOVED PLEASE WATCH IT) along with Spider-Man and Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 (for the second time, whoops).

This month school finally came back, oh joy! I don;t know if you guys really know this about me, but I am actually not a big fan of school. Instead of preparing me for ghe future all t does is give me anxiety and worsen my depression, it’s great. Anywayy, I’m three weeks into the school term and I already have four assignments, with an exam next week. Wish me luck!

In terms of my reading for the month, I certainly read more than expected, I read a tonne of comics and so many great books, excluding American Gods of course. This month I really fell in love with readathons, I participated in Zoe’s 24 hour readathon and really enjoyed it. My anxiety also flared up towards the end of the month and so I had two days off school and randomly decided to do the BookTube-A-Thon which I had a blast with!

This month, I don’t know how much I’ve gone on about this lately (it feels like a lot, sorry about that) I’ve been absolutely knackered because of school. And because of my stress levels and lack of sleep I have actually learnt something important about myself, I BINGE BUY BOOKS. This is something about myself that I honestly never knew. I went buts with the kindle buys and I ordered too many books online, so definitely expect another book haul in early August.

Going on from what I was just talking about, I’ve recently re-fallen in love with my ebook. I purchased a few books on my e-reader, something I never do! I’m really excited for the books I got and I now have the Kindle app on my phone which is great for whenever I forget to bring my actual Kindle with me.

JUNE FAVOURITES | 2017

NEWmonthlyfav_socialmedias

At the beginning of the month I watched Anne with an E on Netflix (my review should be up next month!) and the show got me into a massive Anne of Green Gables slump. I’ve been intending to read the book again but just haven’t had the time so far. And then I descovered this amazing Youtube show – Project Green Gables, it’s an amazing modern version of the book. Anne is a black, queer teenager – she talks about some social issues but the show also retains the same lightness and brilliance of the novels.

This month I also got a bit obsessed with listening to a Villains Medley on Youtube while I was blogging. I also watched a lot of vlogs in the background as I studied for my exams this month – I particularly enjoyed Perusetopia’s and Haileyinbookland just put up some of her Europe vlogs as well!

Anne // The Great Comic Relief Bake Off Β // Lucifer // Transformers

Like, I said I watched Anne earlier in the month and I really enjoyed it, my review for season 1 will be up half way through next month, it’s not the most accurate adaptation but I did quite like it.Β  My review for season 1 will be up next month!

I’m watching The Great Comic Relief Bake OffΒ as I write this and I am completely in love with it and hope you all watch it, not only is it hilarious to watch but it’s for a good cause.

Before I had to really get down and study hard for my exams I started watching Lucifer, so far I am only four episodes in, and I actually haven’t watched any of the show in around 3 weeks but since I’m now on holidays I know I’ll be diving back into it. It’s really great and I definitely recommend it!

I also saw Wonder Woman last Wednesday, it was amazing but it didn’t convince me to see all the new DC movies. However, while the trailers played before the movie started the Transformers 5 trailer came on and reignited my love for the franchise. I then went home and watched the movies again. I am now fully obsessed with the movies again and I regret nothing.

During the back end of this month I got much more into social medias than I ever really have before. I actually made a Facebook account (which I will never use except to talk to friends) and I also started using Twitter and Instagram more.

I decided that I want to be more interactive with you guys – my Ig will still be whatever I want it to be, but I really want to start including more shots of my books. I only have like 4 followers at the moment 😒 but I fully intend to start building up my account and actually using it.

I started re-watching Grimm in the first week of May, I was a big fan a few years ago (around season 3) but I sort of fell out of love with the show. However, the show ended in March and so I was seeing a bunch of stuff about the show online. Mainly I saw a lot of posts on the main character’s love interest which got me really interested in the show again.

So far, I am really loving it (as I am writing this I’m on 2×21), I haven’t yet gotten up to the part where I stopped last time, but I’m really hoping I’ll be able to finish the show in the next month or two.

I LOVED this book! It was written by the creator of the tv series Veronica Mars so it was completely perfect. This novel was easy to binge, much the same way the show was. The characters were brought to life in the same ways as before and I loved this. I only read it at school but overall it only took me a week to get through! I loved this completely and cannot wait to read the sequel.

NEWmonthlyfav_favouriteblogpost

The posts I had the most fun writing this month were a discussion and an award.

I was lucky enough to be nominated for the Mystery Blogger Award and I really enjoyed writing my answers and questions for the people I nominated!

I also wrote a discussion about The Hype that surrounds readers. I really enjoyed writing it and finally got my format set out for my discussions feature on my blog.

FAVOURITE BLOG POST

My faourite blog post of the month? Ummmm, I don’t know. Honestly, I posted a bunch of stuff this month but nothing really sticks out too much.

I guess my Beauty and The Beast movie review was fun to write, so that would probably have to be my favourite of the month!

The Daily Show at Comedy Central UK

This isn’t a totally new channel to me but I’ve certainly been watching a lot more of it. These short summaries of whats going on with Trump and his administration are very interesting and let’s face it we all need a little humour at the moment.

READING:

Caraval

I haven’t written a review for this yet but I’m really hoping I can build up the motivation to because I really loved this, it’s probably the best fantasy novel I’ve read in what feels liek ages.

Caraval (Caraval, #1)

Spider-Man/Deadpool, Vol. 1: Isn’t it Bromantic

So if you didn’t know that I love comics, now you know. This combines two of the best Marvel superheroes and it’s amazing. This had me laughing out loud during form class, which let me tell you is super awkward when the teacher is marking the roll.

MARCHΒ REVIEWS:

Welp, I guess I didn’t write too many reviews this month! I swear guys there should be some more next month, I just haven’t had the time.

MOVIES & TV:

MOVIES

Honestly, right now I would love to be typing nothing more than I saw Beauty and the Beast, however it came out a week after it did over in the US and I just couldn’t find the time to go during the week. However, I will definitely be seeing it in April!

I have watched maybe one movie this month and it was actually something I’d never seen before. I watched Atlantis: The Lost Empire and I actually loved it, as soon as I go on holdays I’m probably going to have to re-watch it!

TV SHOWS

This month has been pretty ordinary. I have watched maybe five episodes of Charmed in my spare moments, but let me tell you they were 5 great episodes. This show certainly brings out my inner fangirl.

I also started Veronica Mars a couple of days ago and I’m roughly six or seven episodes into season 1. I am honestly loving it so I can’t wait to continue the series, and then I believe there is also a movie!

I have discovered that I really enjoy watching people put makeup on. I have no idea how I got into watching these videos but when I’m not watching randoms dance I’m watching people put makeup on. BOOK OF THE MONTH:

Eating Animals

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Honestly, I think it has hit my top 5 books list. I really enjoyed the author’s tone of voice and I learnt SOO much! I don’t know how much everything in the book applies to countries outside of the US but it has certainly scared me for life.

I can’t say that this book turned me into a vegetarian, as I haven’t been eating meat for the last two years but I think it’s safe to say that it certainly would have. This book is really important and while I don’t know how it could be required reading (what kind of english project would you do??) but it definitely should be a must read!

The Fall – I’ve only watched the first four episodes but I’m hoping to finish at least season 1 by the end of March ( I watch shows at the slowest pace – when it comes to TV I am a crippled snail.)

Charmed – Apparently this is a month or rewatches. I haven’t watched this show in years, apparently I went through a lot of phases when I was 12. I’m only halfway though season 1 but I am loving starting the show again from the beginning. Rewatching it while knowing what is going to happen is a completely different feeling! Can you tell I don’t rewatch TV shows often?

Parks and Recreation – Speaking of how I don’t re-watch TV shows often, guess who’s rewatching Parks and Rec! I’m only a few episodes into season 1 but already I feel so much happier and more willing to get out of bed in the morning.

Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

I know this is mostly a book blog but I do still like to talk about other things occasionally, which is why you might see the odd tv or movie review. I don’t have a massive list of movies I want to see but I found it really helpful to compile this list because there are a lot more movies coming out this year than I had initially realised.

I’ve never done one of these before and to be honest I’ve only ever watched one of these videos so I don’t really have a format to follow. If I enjoy writing these I’m hoping to do one every month.

Social Medias :

This month wasn’t really a big month for me on social media as it isn’t really a big part of my life. However, I did join Twitter this month so I can keep up with the Shadowhunters live tweets and stuff my favourite authors are saying.

My Twitter

This probably won’t be a main section on this post because, as I said social media really isn’t a main feature in my life.Β

YouTube :

I really enjoy watching videos on YouTube, but mostly in the background while I’mΒ writing a blog post or doing homework .

In the last week or so I’ve found that I’ve been working well withΒ Megan Batoon orΒ Kyle HanagamiΒ in the background. Megan Batoon is a really fun YouTuber, and her videos are all pretty short which makes my life a lot easier. She also makes cooking videos which are some of my favourite videos to watch.

Kyle Hanagami is a choreographer, his videos are all really amazing, he has a whole cast of dancers that dance to parts of songs. I really love the dances and find it quite relaxing to watch or even to just listen to the songs while I work.

As for BookTube, I’m not sure if it was in December of January that I subscribed to them but I’ve been really enjoyingΒ ProblemsofaBookNerd‘s videos. She’s recommended some really great diverse reads, her reading tastes are quite similar to me and she is really easy to talk to.

Reading :

I’ve decided that I’ll dedicate this section to my favourite book or books of the month, I will also do the same thing for my movie and tv section.Β

January wasn’t a fantastic reading month for me, don’t get me wrong I basically confirmed that Brandon Sanderson is my favourite author but I didn’t actually read the books I really wanted to get to.

I would have liked to read the first two books in the Shades of Magic series but could barely get through the first book, and even as I write this I am am only just past the halfway point. I honestly don’t know if I’m going to continue reading the book, I love it but it’s taken me a month to read 200 pages.

As for what I really enjoyed this month, I finally read some more Brandon Sanderson. I also read a grohic novel that I really enjoyed.

Steelheart (Reckoners, #1)Β In Real Life

I read the entire Steelheart trilogy and while the plot was a bit meh for me, I did love the writing!

I also read In Real Life by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang, this graphic novel dealt with some really important issues and I am very glad I read it. Also, the artwork was brilliant!

Movies & TV :

This month was a pretty good month for TV Shows. I can’t say that I really watch too much tv but with the introduction of Netflix into my life, that’s changed slightly.

I also talked about what I’m currently watching on myΒ Life UpdateΒ posts earlier in the month.

Image result for shadowhunters posterΒ Image result for a series of unfortunate events netflix posterΒ Image result for pushing daisies poster

This month Shadowhunters came back for its second season which so far I am really enjoying! I’m loving the progression of the series and I have no words for Dom’s acting – dude made me cry.

I also watched A Series of Unfortunate Events which came out on January 13 and I won’t go too much into it because my review should be coming out soon, but I loved it!

And, last but certainly not least, Pushing Daisies. I currently have this show on hold, I got 3 episodes in and while I am really loving it I think I’ll wait until I can get it on DVD, but because the show is older and less well-known it is quite had to find in stores. I am still on the hunt but I will definitely be binging this when I get my hands on it!

Honourable mention – I’ve also been watching Class but I’ve not yet watched the last two episodes. All I’ll say is that I’m hoping for a season 2 even though I doubt it will happen. Also, I love Miss Quill.

Favourite Blog Post :

I can confidently say that my favourite post of the month was one that I only posted last week,Β How To: Get Out Of A Reading Slump.

I really enjoy writing these blog posts, they take a hell of a lot of time for me to write but it’s very satisfying to read them afterwards knowing I’ve given it my all.
