A reality star and a cupcake-baking football player pretend to be a couple in order to save his bakery in this sweet and sexy romance from Jamie Wesley,Β Fake It Till You Bake It.
Jada Townsend-Matthews is the most reviled woman in America after turning down a proposal on a reality dating show. When she comes home to lick her wounds, Jada finds herself working at San Diego’s newest cupcake bakery, Sugar Blitz, alongside the uptight owner and professional football player Donovan Dell.
When a reporter mistakenly believes Jada and Donovan are an item, they realize they can use the misunderstanding to their advantage to help the struggling bakery and rehabilitate Jada’s image. Faking a relationship should be simple, but sometimes love is the most unexpected ingredient.
This is a fake dating, opposites attract romance with a tiny bit of insta-lust set in a cupcakery!! π§π§π§ This was such a fun and cute story that yes, is a workplace romance but there never really felt like there was a power imbalance which I really appreciated. Donovan is Jada’s boss but she contributes a lot of ideas to the company and takes on a role that gives her more control in the bakery which I enjoyed reading about.
This is such a cute and light-hearted romance with a bit of steam towards the end! I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from this book at all, I just knew that the cover looked amazing and what I’d read in the blurb. So, this book really blew me away and I binged the audiobook in a couple of hours, I don’t think I even paused it tbh. It took m a second to get into it, but only a chapter or two, really. This was such a fun ride and had me laughing out loud a whole lot!
This book is proof of why grumpy x sunshine is not the be-all-end-all! I loved the two main characters and their banter and I loved that Donovan wasnβt a mean or really grumpy guy, he was just a bit of a workaholic. Iβve never read a Jamie Wesley book before but I can guarantee that Iβll have her next release on my 2023 tbr! I highly recommend this one and Iβm so glad we chose it as a book club read! This was so much fun and full of A+ banter. Also, that epilogue ending was fantastic! I really hope this becomes a series and that we get to read August’s book in the future!
romance tropes: fake dating, opposites attract, workplace romance, slow burn
