Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog. I wasn’t originally going to do one of these lists but I randomly got the urge at 2 in the morning (happy new year!) to write a list because I’m super quirky like that and now here we are. So, here are my top 22 books that right now at 2 in the morning, my brain is telling me I really want to read and that by the time Dec 31 2022 rolls around I will have forgotten about completely. Sounds fun, here we go!
Here are the 22 books I want to read in 2022

01 MY LADY JANE 02 MY PLAIN JANE 03 MY CALAMITY JANE
I’ve had this series on my tbr quite a few times for quite a few years and I think if it has happened by the need of 2022 that I’ve read these books it really might never happen.
I read MLJ a few years ago whenever it came out and absolutely loved it and since I do own the entire trilogy I really would like to read them all sometime this year. (Hint: the trilogy is on my January tbr)
04 THREE DARK CROWNS 05 ONE DARK THRONE 06 THE QUEENS OF FENNBIRN 07 TWO DARK REIGNS 08 FIVE DARK FATES

a
This is the last series on my list because I don’t want to overwhelm myself from the get-go but like the Janes trilogy, I’ve read the first few but never finished out the series and I love Kendare Blake’s stories so it would be amazing to finally see how this story ends!
09 MYTHOS: THE GREEK MYTHS RETOLD
Who knows what will actually happen but I really hope this ends up being my first book of the year. I’ve been meaning to pick up this series ever since Mythos came out and Stephen Fry is an absolute bloody legend so I already know this will be brilliant. All I need to do is actually read it.
10 THE CASE FOR JAMIE
In 2021 I started re-reading book 2 of this series and I’m really enjoying it so far so I’m vaguely hoping that by the tie next December rolls around I’ll be back in my annual Sherlock Holmes obsession phase and I’ll be in the mood to continue this series!
11 THE MIME ORDER
In 2021 I read the first book in this series as well as the subsequent novella and I really enjoyed them both. As usual, I intended to continue the series and even borrowed TMO from the library but life got in the way and I never got around to it. So yeah, even if I could knock out one book from this series a year I’d be very happy and no doubt would feel very accomplished.
12 NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS
I don’t know a whole lot about this one but I’ve heard that it’s quite moving and a sort of exploration of two different stories while exploring the whole idea of phenomena of online culture. I’m not sure if I’ll agree with everything in here or what it’s even going to read like at all but I’ve heard the author’s writing is phenomenal so I’m excited to give it a go!
13 ELATSOE
Again, I’m not sure what this is about entirely but I love the cover and I really enjoyed how Kayla at Booksandlala talked about it in one of her vlogs back in 2020 so I’m really excited to pick this one up, especially since I haven’t read anything from Darcie Little Badger before.
14 FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT
I’m a sucker for a good murder mystery comedy with a fun protagonist and book 2 in this series is coming out this year so I’m really hoping to read the two throughout the year because I’m really anticipating loving Finlay Donovan!
15 WICKED
In 2021 I became somewhat obsessed with the Wicked soundtrack and since I think the Wicked movie is actually going ahead (I’m assuming it will come out roughly 2023/2024 but I genuinely have no idea) I would really like to read the book first since I really think the whole idea of this story is fantastic so I think this will be absolutely brilliant!
16 LESS
I’ve heard this is mostly just a character-driven slice of life story with little to no plot about a man who just can’t get out of his own way. I also think the cover looks SO GOOD so I think even if it’s not my cup of tea, it should be an interesting experience and I’ll definitely have a solid opinion on it to discuss in a wrap up at the end of the year.
17 CONVENIENCE STORE WOMAN
I don’t read nearly enough translated works that aren’t manga so I figure I should at least have one translated book on my tbr for the year and this sounds amazing (also, I love the cover!). I think this is also a slice of life story that explores the main character who is really quite intelligent but works in a convenience store and actually really enjoys it, but none of her friends or family can understand why she won’t try and move up in her career. I haven’t looked into it much more than that because I want to go into this without any other opinions or reviews on my mind but I genuinely think this will be fantastic and a really thought-provoking read.
18 THE BODYGUARD
This is my only 2022 release on this list. I wanted to limit it just to the one because otherwise the entire list would just be new releases and I’d be sacrificing some banger backlist reads. I didn’t have the best track record with new releases in 2021 but this sounds fantastic and has some of my favourite tropes (a bodyguard!!) in it so I’m really hoping that it’ll be right up my street and I’ll love it!
19 MEMORIAL
“A funny, sexy, profound dramedy about two young people at a crossroads in their relationship and the limits of love.”
I mean that sounds really dramatic but I also think that this will be fantastic. It’s about two men who are sort of at the almost break up part of their failing relationship until some plans get mixed up and one of the men’s mothers comes to stay to see her son only now she’s stuck at the flat with her son’s boyfriend and it’s about them cohabiting and the discussions and revelations that happen through that experience. I honestly think this sounds riveting and I can’t wait to pick it up!
20 LORE OLYMPUS VOL 1
This was the Goodreads Choice Award winner for the graphic novels section last year and for some reason, there was no kindle version so I never got around to reading it but, I’m really hoping my local library will get a copy in and I’ll be able to pick it up and see why so many people loved it so much!
21 FAMOUS MEN WHO NEVER LIVED
Apparently, this story really plays well with story structure and handles some really interesting topics which, if I’m honest, I’ve completely forgotten what they are. But usually, in January I like to pick up slightly weird books like this, especially when they’re around 300 pages or less so this sounds like a really punctual and interesting book that I’ll definitely be picking up in the first half of the year! π€π€π€
22 SELF-HELP
A short story collection because apparently, I hate myself. But, I’ve heard absolutely amazing things about this collection and apparently it’s great for fans of Before The Coffee Gets Cold which I read last year and was absolutely blown away by so I’m really hoping that because of that recommendation I will also love this collection!
Do you have a tbr for 2022?
Are we reading any of the same books this year?

I’ve been thinking about doing something similar but I don’t know if my ‘mood-reading’ self will agree with it. If I did, a couple of my book series would be the same as yours but different instalments – I’d say Troy by Stephen Fry and The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon.

I’m honestly just really hoping that this will give me some motivation to pick these up since some have been on my tbr for a while but most of these are books I discovered in the second half of 2021 and just never got around to reading, so hopefully, I should be able to get to them sometime this year.π€π€
I can’t wait to read Troy but I want to read the series in order even though I know we really don’t need to. Have you read the other books in the series?
Ahh yes! I’ve only read The Bone Season so far but it was soo good and I can’t wait to get up to date with the books!

Yeah, I read both Mythos and Heroes a few years ago. I’d like to re-read them because there’s so much packed into them and I don’t remember everything.

I hope you can get to all of these, and of course enjoy them!

Oh yes you should read Lore Olympus, especially if you love greek mythology and gorgeous, vibrant art! You can read it for free on webtoon web, but the physical copy definitely adds to the experience β€

I currently have a hold on it at the library so I’ve got my fingers crossed that I can either read it as soon as it arrives or for the next round of the Graphicsathon!
I had no idea it was a webtoon so if I get impatient I might read it that way!! Thank you so much for letting me know! π

Good luck with your TBR! You have lots of books on your TBR for 2022 that I haven’t heard much (or anything, in a few cases) about and I’m really excited to hear your thoughts about them!

Thank you! Yeah, I definitely went crazy with this one and might just stick to 10 for 2023 but I’m really excited for all of these books and already have a bunch of them on hold at the library!
