Which of my Goodreads friends do I read most similarly to?

Hi friends, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m going through my Goodreads because I recently saw Ally do this very same post on her blog (which you can see here) and I LOVED the whole idea (I’m lowkey annoyed I didn’t think of it first tbh) so here we are. I don’t spend very much time on Goodreads at the moment, mostly just using it to log what I’m reading, but I do occasionally like to stalk my friends’ goodreads pages so I’m really rght at home doing this post. πŸ˜‚

Destiny’s Goodreads | 66% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Girls on The Verge
  • The Weight of The Stars
  • Check, Please!

Books We Disagree On

  • City of Fallen Angels
  • Wanna Bet?
  • A Princess in Theory

I think that some of our romance reviews clash, but we have pretty similar taste in graphic novels and hard-hitting contemporaries! Either way, even though I never read horror I still definitely trust Destiny when she recommends me a book!

Rebecca’s Goodreads | 77% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • My Lady Jane
  • The Female of The Species
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Books We Disagree On:

  • Wanna Bet?
  • The Princess Saves Herself in This One
  • Fangirl

This was not shocking to me at all because Rebecca and I often buddy read books together! I feel like I know Rebecca pretty well, especially since we’ve started doing our 2021 Challenge reading books the other person hates and loves. So yeah, Rebcca also reads a more diverse range of romances than I do so she’s my one-stop for recommendations whenever I need a good love story!

Evelyn’s Goodreads | 75% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • The Final Empire
  • Anne of Green Gables
  • Blue Lily, Lily Blue

Books We Disagree On:

  • The Assassin’s Blade
  • Mansfield Park
  • Daisy Jones and The Six

Evelyn and I may not be comletely similar in the books that we’ve read, but out of what we have read that’s the same, we share mostly the same star ratings which I think is really cool.

Ally’s Goodreads | 79% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • A Game of Thrones
  • The Perks of Being a Wallflower
  • The Female of The Species

Books We Disagree On:

  • Caraval
  • Fahrenheit 451
  • American Gods

Ally and I have read so many similar books and we’ve 5 starred a lot of the same books, but unfortunately I’ve also 1 starred a lot of her favourites which is a real shame!

Bec’s Goodreads | 76% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • A Game of Thrones
  • The Female of the Species
  • Hunting Prince Dracula

Books We Disagree On:

  • Carry On
  • Ace of Shades
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

A round of applause for Beca because so far we’ve shared the most 5 star ratings for the same books so I will 100% be going to Bec for recommendations in the future because clearly she’s doing something right!

Kal’s Goodreads | 77% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • My Lady Jane
  • Hunting Prince Dracula
  • Nancy Drew: The Palace of Wisdom

Books We Disagree On:

  • American Gods
  • The Great Gatsby
  • Ignite Me

Kal and I have a lot of the same books that we’ve both read, but also that we have on our tbrs and we share a lot of 5 star reads. I really trust Kal and they are often who I go to for reviews on newer releases!

Star’s Goodreads | 74% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Blue Lily, Lily Blue
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
  • The Nowhere Girls

Books We Disagree On:

  • Carry On
  • The Princess Saves Herself in This One
  • Fangirl

Going through and comparing my books and ratings with Star the thing that struck me most, was that really wjile we diverge on a lot of books, Star has also rated a lot of the books that I’m excited about 5 stars, so that’s giving me a lot of hope for my tbr!

May’s Goodreads | 76% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief
  • The Female of the Species
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Books We Disagree On:

  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
  • The Foxhole Court
  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone

Okay but just going through and seeing the books that May has read, and even the books that we have similar opinions on, May has TASTE! I clearly need to stalk her goodreads more often for recommendations because she reads some serious bangers!

Chana’s Goodreads | 71% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Artemis Fowl
  • The Name of the Wind
  • More Happy Than Not

Books We Disagree On:

  • Carry On
  • Ace of Shades
  • To Kill a Kingdom

I feel like Chana reads a lot of newer releases, while I always intend to but never do, mainly sticking to older backlist titles so we have a few books in common because I feel like I’m always catchin gup on older books, but we have very few newer titles in common which is a real shame because Chana reads some really interesting books!

Malka’s Goodreads | 74% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Fahrenheit 451
  • Artemis Fowl
  • The Final Empire

Books We Disagree On:

  • Carry On
  • Throne of Glass
  • Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe

I feel like, musch like Chana, Malka reads more current or newer titles so that’s mostly where we differ but we also agree on a lot of the same books, and of course, like with so many other reviewers in this post, we disagree on Throne of Glass and Carry On πŸ˜‚

Sofii Goodreads | 75% similar

Books We Agree On:

  • Blue Lily, Lily Blue
  • Autoboyography
  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Books We Disagree On:

  • City of Fallen Angels
  • Hush, Hush
  • Fifty Shades of Grey

Sofii and I have so many books in common, she’s read a lot of backlist books so we have that in common but she’s also read a lot of newer releases that look really interesting so I might have to give her Goodreads a stalk later on too! πŸ˜‚

Do you read similarly to your Goodreads friends?
Do we have any books in common?

  1. This is such a fun post! I can’t believe we are so similar when you devour some genres that I typically avoid like the plague (i.e. romance hahaha). Not going to lie I may add this to my list of blog ideas, big shout out to Ally!

  2. I LOVE this, OMG!! πŸ˜βœ¨πŸ‘πŸ» I admit I would probably hate Hush, Hush and Fifthy Shades if I’d read it now πŸ˜…. I LOVE that we have SO many books in common, I’m so curious to check this myself now, this is a lot of fun!! πŸ‘πŸ» & you’re welcome to stalk my Goodreads Shelf anytime you want! πŸ˜‚β€οΈ

    1. I know, it was so fun to go through and see how similar I am to my friends! Yeah, going through what I rated some backlist books is a bit of a shock these days, can you believe there was once a time where I LOVED Hush Hush? *shudders*

  3. Gosh I love this!
It’s weird, because I want to go back and rate books I’ve read in the past over again.
I’m one of those people who reflects and is like “actually, this was pretty rubbish” and two of those I’ve realised that are rubbish (to my tastes now, which doesn’t actually reflect my tastes back THEN) is Carry on and Fangirl.
I definitely need to do this!

    1. Yes, it was so much fun!
I need to do that at some point too! It’s almost embarrassing looking back at how I rated some books when I was younger but I just thought and felt differently back then. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ
I do the same thing! Yes! Carry On and Fangirl are…sketchy to say the least.
      I highly recommend it!

  4. This is SUCH a fun way to engage with Goodreads. I love checking the stats page on there, just to see how much I’ve read etc., but usually I only compare books briefly with new friends on the platform or people I might add as a friend. Looks like I should take a closer look at some of the people I’m closer with and our possibly shared taste? haha

  5. This was such a cool and creative post! I’m definitely going to check out Ally’s original post! I feel like the stats nerd in me would adore doing this!

The one thing I’ve found when comparing Goodreads stats is that you’ll never find a 100% match. Because everyone has their own perspective and such, there will always be at least a few books that you have VERY different opinions on. I think for me, I try to find the common ground. Do we both feel the same way about classics? About newer releases? About series? Because I know that looking in more specific areas will help me find out where our taste overlaps a lot more than looking at the general overview. It’s why I like looking at people’s favorites shelf to get a sense of what captures their heart.

Great post! And it was fun to see how our reading tastes compare!

    1. Yes, Ally’s post was so much fun!

I agree, I find that comparing books is really subjective because usually you only have older backlists in common like Harry Potter etc. and then the other reads fizzle out. But, I still think it’s interesting to look at! Yes, when friending people I generally try to find if they read the same genres as me and then if they rate them similarly!
