HI everyone, welcome back to my blog, today I’m going into depth about the books and movies Rebecca picked for me in March, following the theme of favourites! In March we decided to recommend out favourite authors and actors so she got a lot of Keanu Reeves and I got a lot of Michael B Jordan! This month Rebecca picked some real bangers, all out of my comfort zone so get ready to see me struggle! But, to be fair, I think I was a little mean with some of my picks too, so all’s fair…

March’s theme is favourites! So we recommended favourite authors and favourite actors – Rebecca gave me Talia Hibbert, Emma Mills & Michael B Jordan!
Wanna Bet? by Talia Hibbert | ββ
My guess: Love ππ
My thoughts: I read this at the start of the month and yeah, from my goodreads review, you can probably tell it was not the book for me! I seem to be having very bad luck with Talia Hibbert’s books so far but I’m not ready to give up! When I eventually read Get A Life, Chloe Brown, if I hate it I’ll give up, but I have really high hopes for that book! Other than that, I really didn’t like the characters in this book and I really thought that instead of a boyfriend (or along with one) what Jasmine really needed by the end of the book, was a therapist. (which, to clarify, is not a crtiticism of the character).
Why Rebecca picked this for me: For one of my favorite authors, I had to go with Wanna Bet? By Talia Hibbert. This is such an underrated friends-to-lovers story that I read while I was working (oops!) The Friends-to-lovers trope is my favorite trope and I wanted to see if Ellyn loved it as much as I did. This book was just everything I wanted at the time and it made me an even bigger Talia Hibbert stan which is what Iβm trying to convert Ellyn to.
Verdict: Love! ππ
Famous in A Small Town by Emma Mills | ββ.75
My guess: Hate ββ
My thoughts: I’m not gonna lie, for most of the month I forgot I was supposed to read this, to the point where I did the same thing I did in February, and quickly read this on the last day of the month! I’ve read Emma Mills novels before, usually at the insistance of Rebecca, and I’ve really enjoyed them but there was something off about this one. I don’t know if it’s because I’m quickly growing out of the YA space, or if it was because I didn’t dig the small town vibe + the characters, but yeah, I just didn’t enjoy this one.
I really have no idea if Rebecca loved or hated this, but because it felt so different to all of Emma Mills’ other books I’ve gone with hate.
Why Rebecca picked this for me: When thinking of my favorite authors, I knew I had to feature Emma Mills. Foolish Hearts is basically my identity as a blogger and I was hyped for Famous In A Small Town. However, this book just didnβt work for me. It felt like the book lacked the magic of Emma Millsβ previous releases and it just didnβt have as much of an impact as her other books. Of all her releases, Iβve disliked this one most so Iβm sorry, Ellyn. Lol
Verdict: Hate ββ

That Awkward Moment | ββ.5
My guess: Hate ββ
My thoughts: I’m not going to lie, because this really does seem like a common theme with me and I’m pretty sure Rebecca doesn’t mind, but I’ve seen this one before and I really did watch it pretty recently so I didn’t rewatch this one. So yeah… this was one of Zac Efron’s worst movies (his best being: the greatest showman, the ted bundy movie, neighbours + hsm3) and I really think he maybe forgot how to act, it was so bad. On the other hand you have Rebecca’s favourites. MBJ who was fantastic if a little miscast! This was a pretty bad movie but I also think that maybe I’m not the target audience for it either. If Rebecca did like this, I’d be really intrigued to know why!
Why Rebecca picked this for me: One of the movies I chose featuring MBJ, I went with That Awkward Moment which is a rom-com featuring MBJ, Zac Efron, and Miles Teller. I hated this one as it has a severe lack of MBJ and he deserves to be in the spotlight. The poor guy ends up in a bad situation and I feel like he just doesnβt get the love he deserves. Sigh, he deserves to be the lead in a rom-com, not a bit player in this one.
Verdict: Hate ββ
Fruitvale Station | ββββ.5
My guess: Love ππ
My thoughts: Oh boy Bec, you hurt me with this one! This movie was brutal and I had no idea it was based on a real event/true story until the end! Big trigger for racism and police brutality because this movie doesn’t shy away from the brutality of racism and it’s incredibly hard to watch! An amazing movie that I’ll no doubt recommend to others in the future!
TW: racism, animal cruelty, police brutality
Why Rebecca picked this for me: For my favorite actors, I of course went with Michael B. Jordan. Since Ellynβs already watched Creed, I had to go with Fruitvale Station which is a true story about a Black man who murdered by a police officer at Fruitvale Station. MBJ has an excellent job in this movie and itβs such a powerful and impactful performance. This is a super underrated performance of his and I needed Ellyn to see this brilliance.
Verdict: Love! ππ
