Hi friends, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m coming at you with an update for how my reading has been going for the last week, and what I’ll be reading over the next weeks!
WWW Wednesday is hosted by Taking On a World of Words and you can find my other WWW Wednesday posts and find my progress here.
🎧 – Audiobook
📚 – Library copy

Splendid (Splendid #1) | 🎧📚
As I’m writing this, I’m currently listening to the audiobook on Libby and I’m 60% of the way through it. I’m having a great time, you can definitely tell it’s written by Julia Quinn, and as always the female love interest is very young, but it’s a really fun book and I really enjoy all of the main characters. I’m intrigued to see how it ends especially because I can tell something big is about to happen, and then I can’t wait to move onto book 2!

Do You Want to Start a Scandal? (Spindle Cove #5) | 🎧 📚
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m happy to say that this series was an unmitigated success! I didn’t love book 3 quite as much but I rated all the other books in the series either 3.5 or 4 stars! Book 5 was one of my favourites in the series and I absolutely loved the characters! Also, the whole spy trope and all the sneaking around? So much fun and really added some extra meat to the story which I enjoyed!

North & South, The Bone Season, Dancing At Midnight | 🎧 + 📚
- I included North and South in my WWW post last week and haven’t made any progress so far. I started this at the very start of the month so funnily enough, it’s going to be one of the last books I read in January. I’m not loving it but I think if I put the audiobook on while I’m baking or doing something mindless like formatting a blog post, I should be able to get it finished.
- I also included The Bone Season in my post last week but I have made more progress with it since last Wednesday. I’m 25% of the way through so far and really enjoying it now that I’m a little less confused. I’m really excited to finish it tbh because I really have no idea what’s going to happen.
- This month I got really comfortable with using the Libby app and listening to the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn so following that method of reading, I’m hoping to listen to the Spelndid trilogy. I haven’t heard anything about it but I’m hoping it will hold me over until my holds for the Smythe-Smithe series come in on the app.

That’s a lovely post, Ellyn! There’s such a huge buzz around regency era books at the moment because of Bridgerton, it’s good to see some different books. I had never read Julia Quinn before, but once I’m done with Haunting Mr. Darcy, I’d love to try one of her novels. Would you recommend one in particular?

You’ve come to the right person, and thank you! I just looked up Haunting Mr Darcy and immediately added it to my tbr so I’m sure I’ll read it in the next few months!
Julia Quinn is one of my favourites because I love her writing style and the friendships in all her books.
If you want a more modern-feeling regency romance I recommend Tessa Dare’s ‘Girl Meets Duke’ series (book 4 is coming out this year), otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend her ‘Spindle Cove’ series which is reminiscent of Julia Quinn’s books but, focuses on spinsters or women who are typically ignored by society. For example, there’s a character who loves to read and who is very fond of geology but who society has basically decided is not worth paying attention to. It’s one of my favourite series and 3 out of the 5 books in the series were 4 star reads for me, I loved them!
If you’re looking for disability rep I highly recommend ‘A Notorious Vow’ from the Four Hundred series. It’s the third book but you don’t have to have read the other books to understand it. The love interest is a deaf man and uses sign language to communicate, it’s been one of my favourite reads this month and I can’t stop recommending it!
I hope this helps! 💕💕

Thank you so much, Ellyn!! I’ll make sure to add the Spindle Cover series and A Notorious Vow to my TBR and to check out all the books you mentioned. (ANV sounds absolutely amazing!!)
(I’m not very far into it yet, but Haunting Mr Darcy is hilarious. Mostly because of the concept. I hope you’ll like it.)

I just read on Publishers Weekly that the Bridgerton book series has sold something like 750,000 copies since the Netflix series aired. Good for Quinn!
Nice to see some other romances on your list here, too!

Wow, that’s amazing! I think the series has really given it a boost for different audience types! It also helps that there are 9 books in the series, I think.
Yes, I’m trying to branch out in the romance genre since I usually stick to the same authors and tropes!
