My 57 Most Anticipated Releases of 2021!

Hi everyone, welcome back to my blog! We’re officially starting off the 2021 content and today I’m kicking it off with my most anticipated releases of 2021!

I just want everyone to know that originally I only had like, 10 books on this list and I had every intenton of keeping it that way. But then I would go on Goodreads and remember a book and then another book and now here we are with a ridiculously too-long to actually actively read while staying interested kind of post, so I am very sorry about that. I’ve kept all the books in order or release date and the genres vary from YA mystery to Adult romance so hopefully everyone can find a book that interests them here! (I highly recommend skimming for pretty covers because 2021 is totally bang on with the graphic design!)

*I’ve also linked all of these books so click on the titles to go to the Goodreads page!
⇀ You can find my 2021 Releases Goodreads Shelf here.

  • Across the Green Grass Fields (Wayward Children, #6) by Seanan McGuire – January 12th 2021 – I have never fully *loved* a book in this series but at this point I’m 5 books in and I’ve always enjoyed McGuire’s ideas so I figure why not keep going? Especially since these books are such fast reads anyway!
  • You Have a Match by Emma Lord – January 12th 2021 – I’ve never read any of Emma Lord’s books before but the description sounds amazing so you know I’m going to read it! I don’t have a sister but I always love it when there’s a focus on sisterhood or sibling relationships in general, so I can’t wait for this one!
  • The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon – January 26th 2021 – Okay so you’ve heard of enemies to lovers and the fake dating trope but how about enemies to lovers combined with fake exes! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜
  • Neverland by Meagan Spooner – January 28th 2021 – Another Peter Pan retelling??? yes please! I am an absolute and total sucker for all things Pan related so even though I really know nothing about this book I need it in my hands right now!
Make Up Break Up
A Pho Love Story
Honey Girl
A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #4)
The Galaxy, and the Ground Within (Wayfarers, #4)
The Initial Insult (The Initial Insult, #1)

  • Make Up Break Up by Lily Menon & Sandhya Menon – February 2nd 2021 – I know hardly anything about this book except that it has my least favourite romance trope in romance books and yet here I am adding it to the lsit because I still kind of want to read it…
  • A Pho Love Story by Loan Le – February 9th 2021 – I generally avoid YA romance so intitially this wasn’t on my tbr but I’ve decided I’ll give it a go, probably on audiobook. Honestly, I love Shakespeare and that’s the vibes I’m getting. This is over 400 pages though, so we’ll see if I can get through it!
  • Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers – February 23rd 2021 – I feel like I can be really picky with romance tropes that I’ll read and even pickier with the ones I actually like so this has the potential to go really wrong but it’s also something I’ve never read before, only watched so I’m intrigued to see if I like it or not. I also don’t read enough f/f in adult romance so I’m really looking forward to it for those reasons!
  • A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #4) by Sarah J. Maas – February 16th 2021 – I haven’t yet finished the third book in the series so I really have no idea what this one will be about but, I’m excited none the less!
  • The Galaxy, and the Ground Within (Wayfarers #4) by Becky Chambers – February 16th 2021 – I honestly thought this series was over when I read the first three books last year and thought they were pretty meh after the first book. I have no idea what to expect from this one but I refuse to leave this series unfinished after already reading three quarters of it.
  • The Initial Insult (The Initial Insult #1) by Mindy McGinnis – February 23rd 2021 – No idea what this one is about either except that it’s by Mindy McGinnis who is a fantastic writer who always writes something worth reading
Act Your Age, Eve Brown (The Brown Sisters, #3)
The Mirror Season
That Way Madness Lies: Fifteen of Shakespeare's Most Notable Works Reimagined
Lost in the Never Woods

  • Act Your Age, Eve Brown (The Brown Sisters #3) by Talia Hibbert – March 9th 2021 – Not me adding a third book in a series even though I haven’t actually read the first two. In all seriousnes though, my library just aquired the first two books and I’m really hoping to get to them sooner rather than later next year!
  • The Mirror Season by Anna-Marie McLemore – March 16th 2021 – I’ve only read the first line of the blurb for this book but from what I’ve read so far, this book sounds completely up my alley and horribly difficult to read. But, I love McLemore’s writing and in general, her book ideas so I’m sure this will be compeltely fantastic.
  • That Way Madness Lies: Fifteen of Shakespeare’s Most Notable Works Reimagined by Various Authors – March 16th 2021 – Do I like reading anthologies? No. Do I like Shakespeare? Yes. So will I read this? Honestly, I have no idea! I love so many of the authors involved in this so I will at least get it out from the library, whether I finish it will be a whole other story!
  • Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas – March 23rd 2021 – This is sort of a continuation of Peter Pan, from what I can tell, surrounding what happens 5 years after Wendy and her brothers get back from Neverland and I don’t know why all of a sudden everyone is publishing Pan retellings but I am absolutely here for it.
Life's Too Short (The Friend Zone, #3)
Sabrina: Something Wicked
Near the Bone
Dial A for Aunties
The Road Trip

  • Untitled Novella (A Court of Thorns and Roses #3.2) by Sarah J. Maas – April 1st 2021 – As I’m writing this post I haven’t actually finished book three in this series but, I am aniticipating really loving it whenever I do finish it, so hopefully I’ll enjoy this little novella too!
  • Life’s Too Short (The Friend Zone #3) by Abby Jimenez – April 6th 2021 – Lowkey kinda random but the MC being landed with a random child they don’t want and then becoming attached to them over time and loving them completely is one of my favourite tropes of all time (See: 3 Men and a Baby & Life As We Know It) so combine that with a romance with the lawyer next door and I’m going to be having a great time!
  • Sabrina: Something Wicked (Sabrina The Teenage Witch #2) by Kelly Thompson et al. – April 8th 2021 – I read volume one of this series this year and absolutely fell in love with everything that Kelly Thompson writes. I was always a big fan of watching the Sabrina TTW reruns as a kid and Thompson perfectly encapsualtes how difficult and rocky being a teenager is, especially when you have magic powers and a tendency to attract trouble. This book is also *slightly* darker than the original series so it’s perfect for fan of both shows! I cannot wait to get my hands on this new volume!!
  • Near The Bone by Christina Henry – April 13th 2021 – I’ve only ever read retellings from Christina Henry but I really like her writing and trust her as a storyteller so I’ll definitely be checking this one out, despite it’s very hard to swallow content.
  • Dial A for Aunties by Jesse Q. Sutanto – April 27th 2021 – Okay, so this is in the description on Goodreads. Tell me you don’t want to read this book. I dare you. “1 (accidental) murder. 2 thousand wedding guests. 3 (maybe) cursed generations. 4 meddling Asian aunties to the rescue!”
  • The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary – April 29th 2021 – This will be a common theme with this list, but I don’t know what this is about. I enjoyed The Flatshare so I’ll give this one a go. I’m assuming this is about a road trip??
Project Hail Mary
Arsenic and Adobo (Tita Rosie's Kitchen Mystery #1)
People We Meet on Vacation
Heartstopper: Volume Four (Heartstopper #4)
You Will Get Through This Night

  • Arsenic and Adobo (Tita Rosie’s Kitchen Mystery #1) by Mia P. Manansala – This follows a girl named Lia who has to try and save her auntie’s restaurent and then conincidentally her ex-boyfriend drops dead in front of her and she becomes the main suspect in his murder. It’s a cooking mystery and it’s a series????? There are also match making aunties??? Oh my god??? 2021 is truly doing the most already!
  • People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry – May 11th 2021 – I read Beach Read by Emily Henry this year and really enjoyed it so I’m excited to read her next adult romance!
  • Heartstopper: Volume Four (Heartstopper #4) by Alice Oseman – May 13th 2021 – I read volumes 1-3 of this series this year and completely fell in love with how wholesome and cute the characters and art style are! These graphic novels are such a fun (but short) escape from normal life and I absolutely can’t wait to see where the story goes!
  • You Will Get Through This Night by Daniel Howell – May 18th 2021 – I’m not a diehard Dan Howell fan by any means, but he was a big part of my childhood and general high school expereince and my mental health experience so yeah I’ll give this one a go because maybe this youtuber can actually write.
Fence: Disarmed (Fence #2)
The Soulmate Equation
How to Find a Princess (Runaway Royals, #2)
Malibu Rising

  • Fence: Disarmed (Fence #2) by Sarah Rees Brennan – May 18th 2021 – I’ve only read the comics in this series so far but I’m hoping to get to the novelisations soon!
  • The Soulmate Equation by Christina Lauren – May 18th 2021 – There are a lot of Christina Lauren books I haven’t read yet but The Unhoneymmooners and Autoboypgraphy were both so good that I know I’ll have to pick this one up!
  • How to Find a Princess (Runaway Royals #2) by Alyssa Cole – May 25th 2021 – I’ve only read a few of Alyssa Cole’s books in the past but I’ve heard nothing but good things about her romance books so I figure i may as well keep this on my radar.
  • Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – May 25th 2021 – At this point I don’t know if I’m just reading TJR books because I like them or because I refuse to have books of hers that I haven’t read.
An Emotion of Great Delight
One Last Stop
The Chosen and the Beautiful
Daughter of Sparta

  • An Emotion of Great Delight by Tahereh Mafi – June 1st 2021 – I haven’t read many of Tahereh Mafi’s books but this sounds completely soul destroying so I’ll have to give it a go!
  • One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston – June 1st 2021 – I didn’t *love* Red, White and Royal Blue but I do want to support more queer characters in adult romance so I’ll defintiely be picking this up!
  • The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo – June 1st 2021 – Nghi Vo is one of my new favourite authors so I can’t wait to read this one!
  • Daughter of Sparta by Claire M. Andrews – June 8th 2021 – “Sparta forged her into a deadly weapon. Now the Gods need her to save the world!” Oh my god okay yes please
  • The Marvelous by Claire Kann – June 8th 2021 – Calire Kann is the mastermind behind Let’s Talk About Love which I loved and me being the awful person I am, I still haven’t read any of her other works.
The Sea Is Salt and So Am I
Ace of Spades
The Box in the Woods (Truly Devious, #4)
Darling
My Contrary Mary (Mary, #1)

  • Ace of Spades by Faridah Γ€bΓkΓ©-ÍyΓmΓdΓ© – June 10th 2021 – I heard this discussed vaguely in a 2021 releases video and it sounds so strange it just might work.
  • The Box in the Woods (Truly Devious #4) by Maureen Johnson – June 15th 2021 – I really thought this series was over when I read book three at the start of 2020 but I really like Stevie as a main character so I’m intrigued to see what she’ll be like outside of a school setting and to also see how Maureen Johnson will go writing a standalone mystery instead of stretching one crime over three books.
  • Darling by K. Ancrum – June 22nd 2021 – Last year I read The Weight of the Stars by K. Ancrum and fell so deeply in love with it and absolutely loved the experience of reading it so I decided to check out if they had a book coming out in 2021 and oh my god, someone out there is seriously looking out for me because it’s a Petr Pan retelling and I just know it’s going to break me and honestly, I can’t wait!
  • My Contrary Mary (Mary #1) by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows – June 22nd 2021 – So far I’ve only read book one in the original Lady Janies series and LOVED IT but I’ve been hanging out for the audiobooks (which aren’t available on any of the platforms I use – in Aus) so I think I’ll just have to suck it up this year and have a mini marathon of the Janies and Maries!
A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot, #1)
Isn't It Bromantic? (Bromance Book Club, #4)
Small Favors

  • A Psalm for the Wild-Built (Monk & Robot #1) by Becky Chambers – July 13th 2021 – Becky Chambers writing short books hell yeah
  • Isn’t It Bromantic? (Bromance Book Club #4) by Lyssa Kay Adams – July 20th 2021 – I haven’t read any of the books in this series and all I know is it’s about a bunch of guys at a book club?? I think?? All I know is that Rebecca was excited about it and that made me excited about it and now it’s on my list.
  • Small Favors by Erin A. Craig – July 27th 2021 – Magical Realism Horror? Oh my god????
All's Well
The Heart Principle (The Kiss Quotient, #3)

  • All’s Well by Mona Awad – August 3rd 2021 – I haven’t yet read anything by Mona Awad yet but I mean to change that in 2021 with their newest book! I’ve been putting off picking up Bunny literally just because it’s harder to access in Australia, but this one is Shakespeare related so no one will be able to stop me from getting my hands on it!
  • The Heart Principle (The Kiss Quotient #3) by Helen Hoang – August 17th 2021 – This was my most anticipated release of 2020 until it got moved to 2021 so here I am praying and hoping it 100% gets released this year since I love this series and Helen Hoang’s writing!
  • Code Name Badass: The True Story Of Virginia Hall by Heather Demetrios – September 2021 – A few years a go I read Bad Romance by Heather Demetrios and absolutely loved it, even though it was such a hard book to read (content-wise). Code Name sounds really different to what I’ve read from her in the past and what I usually read in general, but it also sounds really interesting and I can’t wait to get out of my comfort zone!
  • All These Bodies by Kendare Blake – September 21st 2021 – I loved Kendare Blake’s Three Dark Crowns series with my entire heart and I also loved her Anna Dressed in Blood duology when I read it back in primary school so I absolutely can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve!
  • Once Upon a Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber – September 30th 2021 – I have literally no idea what this is about but I love Stephanie Garber’s Caraval trilogy and always have a great time reading those books so I’m really excited to see what she writes next!
  • Dark Rise (Dark Rise, #1) by C.S. Pacat – October 5th 2021 – I’ve read the Captive Prince trilogy and the Fence comics by C S Pacat in the past and had mixed opinions on them both. I have no idea what Dark Rise is about but I am very intrigued to see what she writes next!
  • Beyond the End of the World (The Other Side of the Sky #2) by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner – October 5th 2021 – Another sequel to a book I haven’t read? Shocking.
  • Across the Saltwise Sea (The Up-and-Under #2) by A. Deborah Baker – October 12th 2021 – There’s a sequel to Over The Woodward Wall???? OH my god???? I love these books and this world in general, so I can’t wait to read this one and then binge them all again when Seasonal Fears (Middlegame sequel) comes out in 2022!
  • Kingdom of the Cursed (Kingdom of the Wicked #2) by Kerri Maniscalco – October 26th 2021 – I still haven’t read book 1 but hey, maybe 2021 will be the year i get my ass into gear and actually read some books…
  • Untitled (Crescent City #2) by Sarah J. Maas – November 2nd 2021 – What’s that? I haven’t read the first book? Yeah… I know…πŸ™„πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

UNKNOWN DATE

  • Untitled (The Gilded Wolves #3) by Roshani Chokshi – unknown date, most likely in 2021 – 2020 ended up being a clusterfuck and so naturally a lot of my bookish prorites were left hanging out to dry but, fingers crossed I can make up for that this year by reading some real bangers and that this is one of them!
  • Untitled (Alex Stern #2) by Leigh Bardugo – unknown date, most likely in 2021 – I read Ninth House in the second half of 2020 and thought it was pretty damn good and really started to enjoy the world and the mystery so I’m really excited to see what happens next!
  • Untitled (The Fowl Twins #3) by Eoin Colfer – has yet to be announced but I’m assuming we’ll get a third installment in the series
  • The Land of Hoof and Horn by Seanan McGuire – no release date yet – I know nothing about this one because I can’t find the blurb or a summary anywhere but, this is Seanan McGuire and the title sounds weird so I’ll definitely be picking it up!
  • Black Tabs by V.E. Schwab – no release date yet – Again, I know nothing about this one, aside from this little teaser on Goodreads, “Starring a female assassin in a future version of New York City.” I have no idea what to expect from this, expecially since I’ve read so little of Schwab’s works but I am excited to give it a go!

  1. Not surprisingly, I want to read almost every romance on this list! Some other 2021 releases I’m excited for are The Intimacy Project, Counting Down With You, Sweethand, We Can’t Keep Meeting Like This, Meet Cute Diary, and Second First Impressions! I’m so excited for 2021 for the book releases alone! Each month there’s at least 1-3 books that I’m excited for!
