Hey guys, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m coming to you with a long-awaited discussion post talking about a bunch of books I think would work really well on the small screen! As most of you will know, I’m a huge movie geek and I also really love a good tv show, so today I thought I may as well combine my two loves on my blog with you guys since I’m sure a bunch of you also love book adaptations and I’m sure there were a bunch that I didn’t even think of!
Three Dark Crowns Series
As long as they kept it dark and maybe the borderline between new adult & ya with some adult themes (as well as blood and gore etc) and don’t turn it into a ya soap opera but make sure it’s brutal and unforgiving – sort of like Game of Thrones but with teen characters – a lot of the audience for GOT were teens but they never made it any less gorey or brutal because of that, so I think if this show truly went there, it could be fantastic! Game of Thrones meets The Witcher but with a focus on women and politics!
Stalking Jack The Ripper
Everyone loves historical fiction mysteries and while there’s only 4 books I’m sure you could easily add on other storylines if the show was successful. I think the main pull of the series is the romance so you would definitely have to focus on that aspect and have the mystery be second but, this story definitely has potential with the dark tone and spooky historical London in the dark kind of vibes. Also, Jack the Ripper is a pretty compelling villain, I think the second book would also work particularly well if adapted, very spooky Dracula vibes. It would be a great show to release to binge in October. Think The Alienist but with more romance!
The Infernal Devices Trilogy
I know we’ve almost been down this road before and not everyone wants this series to be adapted but I think if this was done right and with the right amount of darkness & gore +the atmosphere and spooky suspense vibes, this could be truly amazing. Also, I long to see a love triangle done RIGHT and WELL on screen. This has the same kind of vibe as Stalking JTR, but I think if you focused on the balance between frilly dresses and fighting demons in alleyways + solving a mystery you could have a great show. Honestly, this trilogy gives off amazing London fog vibes so I think it has some serious potential!
Moonstruck Comics Series
This was a really fun comic with an adorable art style and colour style so this would be an awesome animated series to binge-watch on Netflix. I can see myself actually sitting down to watch this and enjoying it. Also, it’s Lgbtqia friendly and features some truly adorable characters. Who wouldn’t want to watch that? The world is easily adaptable too, so it wouldn’t be difficult to come up with filler episodes or other plot lines.
(Keep in mind that I’ve only read book 1 in the series!)
We all love NA paranormal so Id be interested to see how this would be done especially because it is quite dark and can be quite gross at times. Also there’s a romance so you know people would obsess over it immediately.
Harry Potter Series
At this point I don’t know if I want anyone to touch this series but I know it’s going to be rebooted at some point so I MAY AS WELL talk about it. I think this would make a fantastic series and I would love to actually see the characters grow up. I think this would be better as a (massively high budget) show instead of films because as we all know the books are quite detailed and there’d be more time to show everything that goes on + all the little details. Also, the books are all out so they won’t have that same issue of not including characters until it’s too late. *coughs* Ginny
The Gilded Wolves
National Treasure in historical France? Is there honestly a single person on this earth who wouldn’t watch that?
+ found family
+ character development and trauma that bonds the characters together? *chefs kiss*
Giant Days Comics Series
I actually think this would be an awesome NA/YA animated series. We don’t really get any uni college stories outside of romance plots (*coughs* After) so it would be really cool and a nice change of pace to see these characters on screen, especially since they’re all so different.
Also, this series is almost completely finished being published (the last volume comes out in November, I think??) so the writers would have the opportunity to actually know the characters they’re writing about properly enough to do them justice.
This is all to say that I really just need to see Graham McGraw and his stupid beautiful moustache on screen.
I hate Fairyland Comics Series
The colours the art style! Oh my god, can you imagine? The potential! *falls to the ground* Why can’t I have this??! Why has no one adapted this?!?
Wayward Children Series
This series would be a fantastic mini-series! You could do 1-3 episodes per story/book and it would be amazing. You wouldn’t need to go crazy and some stories you probably only need 1-2 hours of screen time to tell but God, it would be so worth it! Seeing all of those different worlds on screen would be mind-blowing!
Fence Comics Series
I don’t know if this would be better animated because I love the style in the comics or if it would be better live-action, either way, we need to see these boys on screen. It’s gay angst o-clock y’all!
The Diviners Series
- full, diverse cast (ethnicity and sexuality-wise!)
- actual on-screen asexuality rep oh my god I can and will faint
- genuinely a scary series so this could be such a fantastic suspenseful and frightening kind of show! Like, it’s light and it’s the roaring twenties and we have an amazing found family aspect to endear the audience to the characters but also the big bad guy is terrifying and sings spooky songs in the dark and you don’t know what’s going to happen next!
- God, I need this now!
