MY JANUARY WRAP UP!

Hi everyone! We’re officially part of the way into 2020! It’s a new decade!

I wanted to really make a good start to the decade this month and try to consume as many stories as possible! So, grab a snack because you know this is going to be a long wrap up! (Also, I’m trying a new format this year so lmk how you feel about it!)

   

• How To Lose The Time War [04/01] – 4 ⭐ – First book of 2020 done and dusted! Seriously though, this book was amazing and such an unexpected gem. I’m honestly so surprised that this wasn’t one of the biggest books of 2019.
• Rafe [02/01 – 05/01] – 3 ⭐ – buddy read with Destiny – I feel bad about it but I wasn’t a big fan of this one
• Stitch Vol 1 [05/01] – 3 ⭐ – So cute!!!
• Waste of Space [04 – 07/01] – 4 ⭐ – I had literally zero expectations and this book blew me away! Absolutely amazing, I will be recommending this non-stop and you can’t stop me!
• Assassination Classroom Vol 1 [14 – 15/01] – 3.75 ⭐ – This was actually pretty good ngl.
• Crazy Rich Asians [09/01 – 17/01] – DNF – I really enjoyed the movie but the book was absolutely not for me. You can find more of my thoughts here.
• Stormbreaker [21/01] – 3 ⭐ – This was the perfect nostalgia read to get me back into reading!

• Point Blanc [21/01] – 3 ⭐ – I went from being in an awful reading slump to reading 2 books in 1 day. I think that says a lot about how much I love these books.
• Skeleton Key [22 – 23/01] – 3.75 ⭐ – I don’t quite know why this is so addictive, but honestly, this was so good!
• Assassination Classroom Vol 2 [22/01] – 3 ⭐ – I am pleasantly surprised by how much I like this series!
• Eagle Strike [24/01] – 4 ⭐ – I’m enjoying this series so much now that it’s gotten so much darker!
• Every Heart A Doorway [25/01] – 4 ⭐ – This was the first book I ever read with ace rep and for that, it’s one of my favourite reads of all time!
• Down Among The Sticks and Bones [26/01] – 4 ⭐ – There is something so compelling about The Moors and the writing is so good, this is definitely one of my favourites in the series!
• Beneath The Sugar Sky [27/01] – 4 ⭐ – Controversial, but this was maybe my favourite re-read of all the first 4 books this year!

• In An Absent Dream [27/01] – 4 ⭐ – I think The Goblin Market is absolutely compelling but this book still feels slightly undercooked. I love it though.
• Come Tumbling Down [28/01] – 3 ⭐ – I didn’t *love* this like I thought I would but, I still had a lot of fun reading it. Honestly, I wish we had had more time in the water elements of The Moors but, I always love seeing Jack and Jill because they’re both absolutely ruthless.
• The One [29 – 30/01] – 4.5 ⭐ – I am absolutely blown away by this book. Plot twists at every turn and even though it reads sort of like a reality show that doesn’t pull its punches, it’s completely addicting and unforgiving! Look up the triggers before reading!

• The Rise of Skywalker [01/01/2020] – 2.5 ⭐ – It’s offensive that this was my first movie of the year.
• Ocean Waves [01/01/20] – 1 ⭐ – Studio Ghibli movies are usually amazing but this was a huge miss for me!
• Tomb Raider [02/01/20] – 3.5 ⭐ – I had zero expectations and left with a new favourite, this was very reminiscent of 90s mystery/action adventures and I had a lot of fun watching it!
• The Sorcerer’s Apprentice [03/01/20] – 3 ⭐ – This is so iconic in my mind that I can’t make myself hate it.
• My Neighbors The Yamadas [04/01/20] – 1.5 ⭐ – I’ve never been more bored in my life oh my lord
• Furry Vengence [05/01/20] – 0.5 ⭐ – Destiny said “all Brendan content is good Brendan content” and I believed her and I’m fine and this movie was definitely good and I’m not scarred for life. It’s fine. All Brendan content is good Brendan content.
• Persuasion [06/01/20] – 3 ⭐ – I don’t mind this movie at all tbh, I would definitely watch it again.

• Little Women [07/01/20] – 5 ⭐ – THIS MOVIE. Reader, I wept. So good!
• North and South Mini-Series [06 – 07/01/20] – 3 ⭐ – I am sad to report that this didn’t do it for me. It was like a dirtier version of P&P. BUT, I do think this will float a lot of boats, just not mine.
• Spirited Away [08/01/20] – 4.5 ⭐ – I saw this a few years ago and thought it was too weird but I don’t know what I was talking about because this movie is fantastic and I love it very much.
• Jumanji: The Next Level [09/01/20] – 3 ⭐ – I genuinely can’t believe I am saying this, but Kevin Hart was the best thing about this movie. *shudders*
• Laputa: Castle In The Sky [09/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – I zoned out a bit in the middle because this movie is so long but, I’ve decided that I actually really enjoy this movie and will definitely be re-watching it in the near future.
• Crazy Rich Asians [10/01] – 4 ⭐ – I can’t believe I waited so long to watch this!
• The Secret World of Arrietty [10/01] – 3 ⭐ – Not my favourite but I enjoyed the idea behind it!

 

• High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 1 [18/12/19 – 11/01/20] – 3.5 ⭐ – By the end, the series really started to slow down and I was losing interest but I do like that the episodes are pretty short and I’m hella nostalgic for these songs so I might give season 2 a try, we’ll see.
• Shazam! [11/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – Not something I’m ever tempted to rewatch often but it’s still pretty fun.
• Kiki’s Delivery Service [12/01] – 4 ⭐ – This is truly one of my favourite comfort movies, I really need to watch this one more often.
• Kubo and The Two Strings [12/01] – 3 ⭐ – I didn’t love this but the origami was pretty fantastic to watch.
• Kate & Leopold [13/01] – 3 ⭐ – This truly felt like it was written by a mum and it somehow got turned into a movie.
• Smallville Season 1 [21/12/19 – 14/01/20] – 3 ⭐ – Honestly, this is pretty meh so far but the Adam Brody episode gave me life. I’m going to stick it out until Lois Lane gets here but, yeah so far I’m not in love with this. 🤞🤞
• The Alienist [12/01 – 14/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – This was really good but very hard to stomach. Major triggers for homophobia, transphobia and the use of dead names.

• The Wild Thornberrys Movie [15/01] – 3 ⭐ – Okay, so obviously I’m not a kid anymore so I am in no way the target audience, but this was pretty quick and I actually had a lot of fun watching this in the background while I got some work done.
• While You Were Sleeping [16/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – Peter Gallagher!
• Grave of The Fireflies [17/01] – 3 ⭐ – I didn’t love this because I don’t typically watch war movies, but this was definitely still really good. If you have any interest in Hiroshima, I recommend this but otherwise, it hits pretty damn hard.
• Descendants [17/01] – 3 ⭐ – This is the ultimate guilty pleasure.
• Z-O-M-B-I-E-S [18/01] – 2 ⭐ – I can’t believe this movie exists. It has SO many flaws.
• Teen Beach Movie [18/01] – 2 ⭐ – I will never watch this movie ever again. Not even if you pay me.
• Jumanji: The Next Level [19/01] – 3 ⭐ – I think this was better the second time but it’s still not as good as the first one and disturbingly, Kevin Hart is still the best thing about this movie.

 

• Tales From Earthsea [19/01] – 2 ⭐ – This was SUCH a letdown, this movie made no sense!
• Descendants 2 [19/01] – 2.5 ⭐ – Ugh
• Descendants 3 [20/01] – 2.5 ⭐ – NOPE
• Rags [20/01] – 3 ⭐ – I’ve never seen a twist like this on the Cinderella story so this was pretty good for that.
• Just Go With It [21/01] – 3 ⭐ – You know what? This was fun and the kids were great.
• Bedtime Stories [23/01] – 3 ⭐ – Adam Sandler in a Disney movie is kind of terrifying.
• The Rebound [24/01] – 3 ⭐ – Oh my god, I actually enjoyed this so much???

• The Lucky One [24/01] – 3 ⭐ – I truly don’t understand why anyone would like Zac Efron’s character. He has no personality and doesn’t talk. Maybe it’s the dog that people really like?
• The DUFF [24/01] – 3 ⭐ – I don’t know why, but this movie gets me every time. Maybe, it’s Monster Voice.
• You Again [25/01] – 3 ⭐ – You know I’ll watch anything with Kristen Bell in it.
• Never Been Kissed [25/01] – 1 ⭐ – I hate it i hate it i hate it
• A Cinderella Story [25/01] – 4 ⭐ – 👌👌👌 Absolute, quality cinema.
• Superman Returns [26/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – I can’t believe how good this movie actually was wtf.
• Constantine [26/01] – 3 ⭐ – I will say this only once. Matt Ryan did it better. There I said it, now I need to go wash my mouth out.

• Superman [27/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – This is some damn good nostalgia!
• Hannah Montana The Movie [28/01] – 3.5 ⭐ – I can’t believe how well this movie holds up. It’s a damn good time.
• Poldark Season 1 [28 – 29/01] – 3.5 ⭐ –  I think I’ve found my Outlander (says the person who knows nothing about Outlander)
• Ratatouille [30/01] – 4 ⭐ – I am sorry to say that I did not love this as much as I thought I would, but it was good enough that I’ll watch it again.

• Doctor Who season 12 [02/01 – ??]  – 11×01 – ?? – So far this was pretty meh and I’m not loving it but it’s Doctor Who and I’m stubborn so I’m going to keep watching.
• The Americans [21/01 – ??] – 1×01 – ?? – Y’all this show is intense (and very very good but pls look up triggers first) but also not something you should watch with your little brother. Why does this keep happening to me???
• Poldark [30/01 – ???] – 2×01 – Not gonna lie, the only reason I’m watching this is for Demelza and her dog, at this point,
