Hey everyone, welcome back to my blog! Today I’m coming at you with a new addition to my DVD Shelf Tour series, and today I’m talking about my favourite superhero movies that I own, and I own something like 30+ superhero movies so I’ve tried to really narrow them down and to talk about different sub-genres within the Superhero genre to, so I hope you enjoy!
X-Men: First Class
- First Class is quite possibly the movie that got me into the superhero genre.
- This is my favourite version of the characters (at least in the movies)
- I really think this is the best movie in the franchise, it all got a bit messy after this first movie.
- I can’t believe I’d never heard of half this cast until I saw this??? They all play their characters so well!
- *sighs* This movie just makes me so happy to think about ya know?? Nostalgia really gets me with this movie.
Iron Man 3
- This is without a doubt, my favourite movie in the trilogy.
- I love the focus on Tony’s PTSD and anxiety and I wish they had kept this as a more clear part of his character in the other movies, and with the other characters, because realistically what superhero wouldn’t have some kind of anxiety disorder?
- Also, just straight up, I’m a big Tony Stark fan so this movie felt like a great culmination for his character and I try to focus on it more as a character study and less or a superhero movie with a villain etc.
Man Of Steel
- I think this is actually quite controversial in the DCEU???
- But I really enjoy it? I think that so many Superman movies can be so distractingly optimistic and bright but, to me that doesn’t seem at all realistic.
- I would be interested to see if Man of Steel 2 (if it ever happens) ended up being so dark, because I do think it threw a lot of people off. Honestly, while I did enjoy how this sort of refreshed Superman, as a character for me, I do think that there’s a reason movies usually stay on the lighter side of his character.
- I think that if they were to ever really go dark with Superman worlds would crash and burn because can you imagine? The power that he has and how he clearly feels things pretty deeply and takes everything to heart – I think that if more movies like this were made, the superhero genre would fizzle out a lot faster – hence, Batman movies.
- I do really like this though. I think Cavill is a great Superman and I’ll take any super feisty and intelligent version of Lois Lane I can get. (I really love Lois in Smallville and Lois and Clark, not so much the original movies).
Thor: Ragnarok
- THIS. This movie is the reason I am so excited for the superhero genre’s future! Taiki Waitii did something completely different with this movie and I love it!
- Not only did they completely change Thor as a character (and for the better) but this was completely silly and, also managed to effectively build up a story and maintain solid roots as an MCU movie.
- I love the characters, I love all the Hulk content, I love the music and I love Jeff Goldblum!
- Also, I feel like Tessa Thompson got to really shine in this movie and I can’t wait to see her return with a bigger role in the MCU, it’s what she deserves!
Ben 10: Alien Swarm
- Ahh yess! You didn’t think I’d forgotten about my fave and the true og superhero, did you???
- Ben 1, ladies and gents, is probably one of my all time favourite superheroes and I cannot even begin to explain to you just how much I love him!
- I own this movie because I’m a sucker and because I truly believe that he deserves more love than he gets.
- Ben 10 is a great and interesting character and Gwen and Kevin are also really cool too. As a trio I think they make for a really good team and I’m interested to see if Ben 10 will ever take off again like it did in the early 2000s – OR if we’ll ever get a similar dynamic like theirs in future superhero movies because this is what I love – people who happen to have powers but spend most of their time bickering and solving little mysteries. It’s a lot of fun.
Iβve been meaning to catch up on superhero movies, so this post came at the perfect time! I had no idea that they made a Ben 10 live action! I used to watch the cartoon a lot growing up and always wished I had Benβs power (not to mention I had a massive crush on him π).

Thor Ragnarok is absolutely amazing. I’m making my mum watch all the MCU movies in timeline order with me and I’m most excited about re-watching this.
Also why did I never know there was a Ben 10 movie!
Great post.

It’s such a fun movie, it’s definitely one of my favourites! Did you enjoy watching the movies in time-line order? Do you think it’s better that way?

Oh gosh, I have SO MANY favorite superhero movies! My family’s super into comic books so I grew up on these types of movies, from the early 2000 classics Spiderman and Daredevil (I know a lot of people don’t like the Daredevil movie, but I actually liked it π€·ββ), to all the MCU stuff.
Xmen First Class is my favorite Xmen movie! Also, can we count Sky High and Thunderbirds as superhero movies? Because if so those are definitely on my list π

Yes, I love the Raimi Spider-Man movies and I’m actually planning on writing one of my essays for my Cinema class on Spider-Man 2 because it’s just that good! I actually don’t mind the Daredevil movie, don’t worry!
Yes, Xmen First Class is AMAZING!! Oh my god, yes, Sky High is simultaneously the best and the worst superhero movie and I lowkey love it. Also, have you seen the live-action Thunderbirds movie because it is laughable! π

First class is definitely my favorite x-men movie, and one of my favorite superhero movie! It has such a different feel from the latter movies, and such a different origins story. My favorite superhero movie is the Dark Knight trilogy, they are just awesome!
