Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with the Unpopular Opinions tag,Β I did this sometime back in 2016 so I figured now was as good a time as any to update my answers! Also, I’m doing a tagΒ because I’m feeling hella lazy and I’ve had a long day! I hope you enjoy my answers and that no one gets offended! π€π€π€
You can find the original tag here.
*STARTS THE COUNT DOWN TO SEE HOW MANY FOLLOWERS I LOSE TODAY*
(1) A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU DIDN’T LIKE
Georgia Nicholson. Straight up, I cannot stand this character or the series in general. I found that I absolutely abhorred the main character and I couldn’t stand how she treated the people around her. Honestly, it stuns me that she had 2 guys literally pining after her. Actually, maybe there were 3 guys at one point??? What a mess.
(2) A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO HATE BUT YOU LOVE
I couldn’t really think of an answer for this one, to be honest. Maybe the These Broken Stars trilogy, but I know it definitely has it’s fans so I’m really not sure for this one!
(3) A LOVE TRIANGLE WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER ENDED UP WITH THE PERSON YOU DID NOT WANT THEM TO END UP WITH OR AN OTP YOU DON’T LIKE
Okay, I don’t really read many books or series that actually include love triangles and the closest thing I can probably say that I read lately was Blanca & Roja but it wasn’t really a love triangle??? Honestly, the only actual love triangle I’ve ever read is probably from that prequel Cassandra Clare series, I can’t really think of any other love triangle series though I’m sure I read a bunch in 2012 lol.
EDIT: I literally talked about this in the first question lol. I think Georgia Nicholson should’ve ended up with a trash can.
(4) A POPULAR BOOK GENRE THAT YOU HARDLY REACH FOR
Uhhh probably horror but I don’t really reach for Westerns either though. That being said, I do like to think that I’m pretty flexible with genres and I’ll usually read anything that sounds interesting to me.
(5) A POPULAR OR BELOVED CHARACTER THAT YOU DO NOT LIKE
Uhh, how much time do we have here?
Jace from The Mortal Instruments is the first character that always comes to mind when I see questions like this. I’m sure there are a million other characters (*coughs* every guy besides Kenji in the Shatter Me series) that could fit for this question that I’ll think of as soon as I publish this, but for now, I’ll go with Jace Whatever-his-last-name-is.
(6) A POPULAR AUTHOR THAT YOU CAN’T SEEM TO GET INTO
Uhh, maybe Lemony Snicket? I read his A Series of Unfortunate Events series but could never get into it. Like the other questions, I’m sure I’ll think of a bunch of other answers as soon as this goes live but, for now, Snicket is the only author that comes to mind. I usually like to give authors a proper chance unless they’re super problematic so there are few authors that I would properly write off based off of the books alone.
(7) A POPULAR BOOK TROPE THAT YOU’RE TIRED OF SEEINGΒ
The Miscommunication trope. I have never and will never like this form of story telling. For once I would like to see people go through the plot as a team and without authors taking the cheap shot of creating drama through miscommunication. If characters are going to break up & friendships are going to be ruined and if there’s going to be other character and plot angst I want it to seem natural and for it to make sense because of their personalities or how they react to pressure, not because the author is stuck in 2012. Without a doubt, it never fails to ruin a book for me. I had this same problem with Blanca & Roja which apparently is the book of the day since I mentioned it before too.
(8) A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING
Uhh, anything by SJM? This isn’t an attack, I just have no interest in reading any of her books because they don’t sound like something I would enjoy. That being said, maybe one day I’ll wake up and desperately want to read about Fae. I doubt it, but never say never.
I also have no interest in reading:
- Six of Crows duology
- The Magicians series
- Illuminae trilogy
- The Chronicles of Narnia
Oh my god, y’all are going to hate me now, sorry! π€·ββοΈπ
(9) THE SAYING GOES, “THE BOOK IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN THE MOVIE”, BUT WHAT MOVIE OR TV SHOW ADAPTATION DO YOU PREFER MORE THAN THE BOOK?
Percy Jackson, duh.
I’m just kidding. Oh my God, can you imagine? Sorry, no, I think I’ll probably go with The Perks of Being A Wallflower. I can’t quite remember how the movie compares to the book (I plan on re-reading it soon though!) but I know that whenever I see a *particular* scene where the MC, Charlie is on the phone to his sister I just start bawling and I think that, in itself make it a pretty powerful to me, especially since I don’t think the book made me particularly emotional.
I canβt stand Nicholas Sparks. I have no interest in Hobbits. And I donβt buy books βwrittenβ by celebs or politicians.

Ngl, I’ll probably read LOTR at some point but yeah, I gave Nicholas Sparks a try (Safe Haven) and it was not for me, I won’t be reading any more of his books! Do you enjoy his movies?
I don’t buy books written by celebs either, though I will occasionally (rarely lol) listen to an audiobook from the library.

I watched The Notebook and it was okay.

Ahh, I actually haven’t seen that one but I enjoy the Safe Haven movie.

I havenβt read many of the books you mentioned but when I saw you preferred Percy Jacksonβs movie adaptation to the book I literally gasped π

Haha, I was totally joking, I was just having a bit of a laugh! π I do like them as movies but as adaptations, they’re God awful! I’m secretly hoping for a book-accurate animated series or something like that! Maybe Netflix will make one eventually?

That would be amazing!π

I read the first Illuminae book and I have zero interest in continuing the seriessss. Agree for Perks of Being a Wallflower; I enjoyed the movie (didn’t love it, but it was fine) but really disliked the book

I read the first book in the trilogy too and it really wasn’t for me. I managed to read it all in one sitting but I think that was more because of the setting than my actual enjoyment of the content.
I read Perks so long ago that I don’t really remember my feelings on it so I’m really excited to re-read it and then watch the movie! Hopefully, I love them both!

I didn’t like Jace either. At first it was just annoyance but in the later books, he and Clary became soooo insufferable!

Right?? I’m so confused as to why so many people love him tbh.

I loved reading this post! I laughed my way through! And although I loved a fair share of the popular series you have no interest in reading, I have a long enough list of popular books that I have zero interest in to respect your opinion. I am curious why you don’t want to read them though. Out of pure curiosity though, not to change your mind. I just find it interesting to hear what people dislike in books, because it’s so rarely talked about in favor of what people enjoy in books.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! π I’m not big on reading any of them because they only don’t feel like something I would enjoy. I don’t want to read SOC because I’m just not interested in the content/ characters. I also don’t want to read The Magicians series because if I ever wanted to know what happened I could just cheat and watch the show lol. I don’t want to read the Illuminae trilogy because I read book1 and didn’t like it. I also don’t really want to read The Chronicles of Narnia just because it’s so long and I tried to read it a bunch of times as a child but could never get into it, though not for any lack of trying. I may end up trying again sometime in the future, though probably not anytime soon.
