THE “NO DISCLAIMERS” BOOK TAG

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with the No Disclaimers book tag! I don’t think I’ve done this before and I’m in the mood for a tag, so this is what we’re doing for today!

1 Which trope in books annoys you the most?

I think that any trope can be done well but usually, the miscommunication trope is done terribly and annoys me so I’ll go with that one. I can’t stand this trope in books and it generally will ruin a book for me. For example, I was loving Blanca & Roja but then this trope reared its ugly head and I ended up really disliking it.

I also think love triangles also are usually done terribly but hopefully if the trope ever comes back someone will really nail it to the wall and write it well.

2 Which writer or writers do you feel are overrated/overhyped?

Okay, so I hate questions like this because I feel like a real b*tch and just because I don’t like a book series or the way an author writes doesn’t mean it won’t be someone else’s favourite book of all time. I won’t answer this for the above reasons but there are certain books I didn’t love which you can check out here.

3 What are your least favourite books you’ve read since you started blogging?

Wow, I mean there are quite a few. I recently read After by someone or other and thought it was t e r r i b le so there’s that. Will I see the movie? I wasn’t going to but a new friend of mine wants to see it so I’m just going to suck my shit in and hide in my popcorn box whenever something cringey happens (aka, the whole time).

Also, there’s Editing Emma which literally makes me hate myself more every time I think of it. PleaseΒ read my review, it’s a sh*tstorm.

4 A terrible ending that ruined an otherwise quality book.

The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson!Β I have only read it once but from what I can remember I was never really on board with the ending of the trilogy – it just seemed weak, ya know? That being said, I plan on rereading the trilogy sometime next year so maybe my opinion will change.

5 Which fictional character(s) do you wish were not killed off?

Umm the Basilisk from HP. How dare they???

6 What are some of your bookish pet peeves?

Dismissing people’s reading tastes and habits. Just because someone annotates or dog/bunny ears their copy doesn’t make them a monster, you’re just rude. Also, just because people like a certain type of book or a certain writer doesn’t make them you’re archnemesis all of a sudden. If you don’t like it then don’t worry about it.

7 What are some books you feel should have more recognition?

  • Lost Boy by Christina Henry – I will never stop recommending this book.
  • The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman – I LOVE this book!
  • The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan – Rick Riordan’s most underrated series!
  • The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan – So much diverse diversity – it’s beautiful!
  • The Golden Door by Emily Rodda – Such an original middle grade fantasy, I will never stop recommending this trilogy!

8 What are your thoughts on censorship and banning books?

Censorship & Banning books. Uh, no. Sorry, I know that there are some pretty awful books out there and there are definitely some books I wish had never been written. But, I believe that all books serve a purpose, even if that purpose is for you to literally just see the title/cover on Goodreads and put it on your “Never” Shelf. I don’t think that books should ever be banned or that parts or all of a book should be censored, it’s just a horrible display of power – very 1984, which is never a good thing.

I’m not going to tag anyone but please do this tag because the questions are pretty interesting!

    1. I agree, books 1 and 2 were a lot better, but Hero of Ages was still amazing. Haha, yes all of his books are so good, so even if it’s not as good, it’s still amazing! πŸ’•

  1. This is such an interesting tag! There are some books that as you mention, I wish had never been written, and make me SO angry to think about, but I’d rather discuss why I had issues with a book. than ban it, especially since I know that at least one in particular that I have in mind is so many people’s favorite book!

    1. Yes, some books I wish didn’t exist, but if I had the power to ban them I still wouldn’t do that, because like you said, I would rather just discuss my issues. Ooh, which book?
