Hey guys! Today I’m coming at you with a totally random but really fun blog post! I’m having one of those days where I don’t have much motivation so I thought to try and kick my butt into gear I’d play a game of I spy with my bookshelves since I recently rearranged them! I put 30 odd challenges into a jar and picked out around half of them and found books that would go with them!
Let me know if you enjoyed this and I’ll do more fun posts like this!
I SPY: a tome
I have plenty of books with 500+ pages on my shelves but for this challenge, I thought I’d go with one of the books on my March tbr because I’m really enjoying my buddy-read of the whole series with Rebecca over @ BookishlyRebecca.
Cress, 552 pages
I SPY: a gift
I would say that the majority of the books I get are gifts or from publishers because I usually prefer to get my books from the library. But, I got A Conjuring of Light for Christmas which I’m really excited to get to sometime this year!
A Conjuring of Light
I SPY: a new-to-me author
I have a few books on my shelves by authors that I haven’t read yet but, this is probably one of the most recent ones I’ve acquired. I’ve not read anything by Robert Dinsdale before but The Toymakers sounds really interesting so hopefully, I’ll pick it up soonish.
The Toymakers
I SPY: a book with water on the cover
I really thought this was going to be a pretty easy challenge… but it wasn’t! I had to sort through a few books to find this one but luckily I saw some waves on the spine and then saw that there were more waves on the cover too!
MG & The Gods of Asgard
I SPY: a high fantasy
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson! I have a few of Sanderson’s books on my favourites shelf and high fantasy is one of my favourite genres, though surprisingly I didn’t find many HF books on my shelves! Maybe I need to go on a big high fantasy Goodreads search?
Elantris
I SPY: a book with green on the cover
I had a couple of books on my shelves I could have chosen as a surprising amount of my books are blue & gree, but I decided to choose a non-fiction as this is one of the best books I’ve read in the last 5 years and I think this is the only non-fiction book I own.
Eating Animals
I SPY:Β a comic with orange on the cover
This definitely wasn’t as hard a challenge as I thought it would be because apparently orange is a pretty popular colour on comic covers (that that 10 times fast π) but, I decided to go with Alex + Ada Volume 2 because it has the most orange on it and because I somehow haven’t read it even though it was a gift and I really enjoyed volume 1! Maybe I’ll have to re-read Vol 1 and marathon the trilogy!
Alex + Ada Vol 2
I SPY:Β a book I haven’t read
*hides in shame* I know! I know! How have I not read We Are The Ants?? Honestly, I don’t know, I just keep forgetting that it’s on my shelves and I’m well known for buying a book I’m REALLY excited for and then as soon as I get it in my hands suddenly there’s a new shiny book and I want to read that instead and the cycle repeats itself! I’ll read this eventually!
We Are The Ants
I SPY:Β a book I bought full price
This is the same situation as We Are The Ants! I bought this full price last April (that’s almost a full year!) and I still haven’t read it! I think I’m just intimidated and nervous because I didn’t love The Song of Achilles so I’m not sure how I’ll feel about this one!
Circe
I SPY: a bookΒ set in space
The Long Way To A Small, Angry Planet was one of the first books I read this year and I LOVED it! It has an amazing team dynamic and it’s not too spacey but it also had all the right space elements??? I don’t know how to explain it but it’s such a fun read and I definitely recommend it!

I SPY:Β book less thanΒ 200 pages
I actually don’t own many books under 200 pages apart from the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire but everyone and their mother knows about those books so i tried to find something else for this prompt and I ended up with All My Friends are Superheroes! This looks like a really fun and short book set in one plane ride and I’m SUPER (haha) excited to read it!
All My Friends Are Superheroes
I SPY: a book not inΒ pristine condition
Twilight – Yeah… I have the newer edition with Life and Death and that’s in pretty perfect condition because it’s literally only been read once. But, my old original copy of Twilight has seen better days – there are no torn pages but the cover is pretty crumpled and I’m honestly surprised it’s still holding together because of how many times I’ve read it!
Twilight
I SPY:Β a classic
Fahrenheit 451 is the true MVP! I love reading classics and I have a whole shelf of books I could have chosen for this prompt but, Fahrenheit 451 is my favourite! It’s my favourite classic and probably even my favourite book so of course, I had to pick it here! it really blows my mind that there are so many people who haven’t read this book, it’s so good, please read it!
Fahrenheit 451
I SPY: a middle grade
I have so many middle-grades on my shelves, with one series, in particular, being completely obvious, but I decided not to use any book in the HP series for this game. So, I picked up The Lightning Thief – this was one of my favourite books growing up and I still love it to this day! I take every chance to recommend this to kids because it was so influential to me in my Primary School years!
The Lightning Thief
I SPY:Β a comic with non-human characters
Hi, hello, welcome to my blog where I never shut up about these comics. I love this series and I know that it’s going to be one of those that I come back to and re-read every year because I love it that much. I love the characters and the art style is my absolute favourite and makes the reading experience SO MUCH more fun! It’s always a wild ride reading these comics!
This is so fun!!! I’d love to do this once I build up my personal library a little bit π

I really loved the idea for this post! I’d love to try it out sometime! I also spotted SO many gems on this list! I really enjoyed Alex + Ada! i binged the series a few years back, but I still remember most of it, which is super surprising for me! And I really enjoyed The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet and want to read the companions sometime soonish. Great post!

I am really excited to continue with Alex + Ada, I don’t know why I haven’t! The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet was SO GOOD and the second book is also pretty interesting, I’d say skip book 3 though.
