I think every reader has at least one weird reading habit but over the past few months, I’ve discovered that I do some really weird stuff before and while I’m reading a book!
So, today I’m coming at you with some of my strange reading habits. Let me know in the comments if you can relate to any of these!
1 READING OUT LOUD
Do you guys ever just love a specific sentence or paragraph so much that you have to read it out loud because it was so so good? Because I do, all the time. Whenever I find a line that I love, unless I’m in a crowded place I will read it out loud. Honestly, if I’m alone on the bus I will still whisper the line to myself and I really have no idea why!
2 GETTING TO PAGE 50
I always give myself a goal when I’m reading, so I’ll usually put my bookmark in the place I’m aiming to get to – generally I’ll put my bookmark 2 chapters ahead or at a flat hundred. But, if I only have a short timeframe to read in, I always aim to read 50 pages ahead from where I started.
3 I NEED HYPE
This is so bad because I’m a book blogger and I swear I really do love reading, but more often than not I will have to hype myself up to read a book. Library deadlines really help with this, but I usually have to convince myself the night before that I’m going to read a book the next day. This hardly ever works but if I don’t hype myself up about a book I will literally just forget to read.
4 READING ON THE BUS
I’ve gotten into the habit of reading on the bus, so trying to read anywhere else is actually hard. I really struggle with reading while sitting still in general but I’ve found that I read a lot slower whenever I try to read at home. Does anyone else have this issue or am I just weird?
5 LIBRARY BOOKS
I love my library and the majority of books I read come from the library-system so maybe this shouldn’t come as a shock but whenever I leave the house i have a library book. But what’s weird, is that if I travel or leave the house I don’t take my own books with me. I think I’m just really paranoid about getting my books wrecked because everything always gets banged up in my backpack and I really do prefer library books because they’re always more “read” if that makes sense?
6 I STOP READING MID-SENTENCE
I can hear you all screaming at me through my laptop screen right now, so I’ll apologise now: sorry!
If I want to stop reading, I will. I will literally stop reading mid-sentence and I know that’s weird but it doesn’t bother me. I will stop mid-sentence, mid-paragraph, mid-chapter and I never realised that people didn’t do that until I mentioned it to my mum and she went into shock π€―.
7 I ALWAYS HAVE A BOOK, BUT I RARELY READ
I always have a book with me, but I rarely actually read said book. I could be carrying around a book all day and still never crack open the pages and I feel like that’s bad but at least I had good intentions, right?
8 I AM CONSTANTLY CHECKING THE CHAPTER PAGE COUNT
I don’t know if everyone else does this, but I am constantly checking the page numbers of my book. I do this so so often, I’ll feel like I’ve been reading for ages but guess what? Joke’s on me because I’ve only read 4 pages.
Anyway, so I always do a similar thing with chapter pages. I will always ALWAYS check to see how long the next 2-3 chapters are and depending on when I’m reading and how I’m feeling I will continue reading or stop where I am.
9 I TALK ABOUT SCENES LIKE I WAS IN THE BOOKS
If you ask me what’s going on in my book I will probably start off my sentence by saying “we just did this…”. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, on one hand, I feel like it shows how good the book is, but on the other hand, these people are fictional and that’s weird??? I do this a lot when I read Percy Jackson, it’s embarrassing but oh well, it’s a sign of a good book, I guess?
10 I NEED TO MULTITASK!
if I’m listening to an audiobook, I will need to be doing something else! I need to be writing a blog post or be doing something else on my phone – generally, I’ll be playing Solitaire or colouring in on my phone!
oooooh some of these made me grit my teeth haha – STOPPING READING MID-SENTENCE…. how could you! ;D

I always checking my chapter page count too, but stopping mid-sentence? How do you do it and not getting lost whenever you continue next?? xD

haha, at least I’m not alone with counting the pages! I think I’ve hurt a few people by admitting to stopping mid-sentence!
I just pick up where I left off – I’ll put a tab or I just remember where I was up to!

I have no idea how you can stop reading midsentence! I could never do that! lol.
I overpack books. If I go away for a weekend, I’ll literally bring like 5 books knowing damn well I will not read all of them or if any! lol.
Great post!

Haha, I never really thought it was weird until someone told me!
I do that too! It’s so easy to get over excited or overconfident that we always end up taking more books than the things we need!
Thank you!

I think my weirdest reading habit is pulling the same faces as the characters! If a description says that a character is raising their eyebrow, frowing, anything really, I’ll sometimes notice that I’m doing the same expression while I read.
I can definitely relate to needing to multitask while listening to an audiobook, if I don’t I start to fall asleep!

I do that too! I end up pulling the same faces as the characters and reacting to what they’re saying!
I just have to multitask when listening to an audiobook! Usually, when I’m writing blog posts I’m watching videos or listening to audiobooks in the background!

I LOVE THIS!!! (mainly bc i agree with a lot of your habits lol) getting to page 50 is a huge milestone bc i feel like the beginning 50 is a lot harder to get through the rest of the book, so yes, lots of reason to celebrate.
and needing to multitask with audiobooks is SUCH a mood, its like a must at this point. its the compulsive multitasker life, we just cannot stop.
great post!

THANK YOU!!! πππ
Getting to page 50 always makes me feel so accomplished and I love it!
Multitasking while listening to audiobooks is definitely a must, I’m actually listening to my current read now as I respond to comments!

I love these! I am totally stealing this post idea haha, this is fantastic. I relate to quite a few of these, especially the one about having to multitask while listening to audiobooks! I have to play a game or clean or drive while listening to them. I also used to stop reading in midsentence, though now I prefer finishing at the end of a section or chapter if at all possible.

Thank you! I’d love to see you do a post like this, I always think it’s interesting to find out these types of things about other bloggers!
I have to do something while listening to audiobooks, usually, I’m writing blog posts or playing a card game!
I don’t always stop mid-sentence but honestly, stopping in the middle of the page is totally commonplace for me… whoops.
