RECOMMENDING BOOKS I DON’T LIKE // I’ve gone nuts.

Hey guys, today I’m coming at you with a new type of book recommendation. I didn’t feel like getting super negative today so I thought I might put a twist on the whole “Popular books I hated” type of post. Today, I’m going to try my hand at being a nice person… and I’m going to recommend books I don’t like!ย

a books Illuminae (The Illuminae Files, #1)ย  ย They Both Die at the Endย  ย Ms. Marvel, Vol. 1: No Normalย  ย 172 Hours on the Moon

ILLUMINAE – AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF

  • Really interesting storytelling technique
  • Despite the size, it’s a quick read
  • Everyone loves the AI??
  • Will make you cry apparently?

THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END – ADAM SILVERA

  • In true Silvera style, this is depressing af
  • Awesome cover
  • The title
  • Diverse characters

MS MARVEL – G. WILLOW WILSON & ADRIAN ALPHONA

  • Pakistani American Muslim mc
  • Great art style & colouring
  • Strong female mc
  • Really fun to start off with if you aren’t into comics but plan on continuing the series (not everything is explained in vol 1)

172 HOURS ON THE MOON – JOHAN HARSTAD

  • The blurb says this a “terrifying thriller for young adult fans of The Martian and paranormal space adventure…” I disagree, I think this a good place to start if you’re trying to get into sci-fi or YA horror, but it’s definitely nothing like The Martian.
  • It’s a translated work
  • It’s a quick and interesting read if you’re looking for a bit of a scare

  • Captin Hookย ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ
  • Evil Panย ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

CARRY ON – RAINBOW ROWELL

  • I can’t believe I am here recommending this book. I hate Carry On and I feel no shame. But… I do understand why others do like it.
  • It’s got an interesting m/m romance
  • It’s heavily based on the HP series, so it’s got that nostalgia factor
  • There’s a guy named Basil, and I love that
  • There’s weird magic – you will love it or you will hate, there is no in between
  • Draco/Harry hate-to-love romance

  1. This is such a good idea! I’ve also started to recommend books I don’t like because it doesn’t seem right to keep them away from the blog just in case someone else stumbles across them and ends up liking them. I know the reasons why I personally don’t like Carry On are the reasons why many people love it and I believe it’s petty to ignore its popularity out of spite.

    1. Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it! ๐Ÿ’– I feel the same way, it’s not fair to ignore books just because I didn’t like them! I mean, most of these books are hyped in the bookish community so obviously a lot of people love them! Haha, yes, Carry On. I really hated that book but I do see why people enjoy it.
