RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOUR HOGWARTS HOUSE

Hey guys, today  I am unsurprisingly coming at you with a new recommendations post! Today, I’m recommending books based off of the Hogwarts houses: Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw & Slytherin. Personally, I don’t know what Hogwarts house I would be in. I’ve always seen myself as a Hufflepuff because I value loyalty above most things, but according to my family, I am very much a Slytherin. So I honestly have n idea. I am definitely not a Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, what do you guys think my house would be?

catsThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo   I Hate Fairyland, Vol. 1: Madly Ever After   Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper #1)   Caraval (Caraval, #1)

THE SEVEN HUSBANDS OF EVELYN HUGO

This is a total Slytherin book, it’s not even a question. Evelyn Hugo is the ultimate Slytherin. She literally embodies every part of a Slytherin, she is: ambitious, shrewd, cunning, a strong leader, and achievement-oriented. Much like a Slytherin, this is a really intricate and smart book and I cannot recommend enough.

I HATE FAIRYLAND

The main character in this comic series is pretty much the total opposite of Evelyn Hugo. She is also a totally morally grey character but she’s also a 30 something-year-old serial killer locked in the body of a 5 year old. She’s a total Slytherin and couldn’t be described as anything else, she is brutal and does what she needs to do to get what she wants.

STALKING JACK THE RIPPER

I would describe the characters in this book as more Ravenclaw types but,  I would describe this book as Slytherin, it just has that whole vibe going on. This series is smart and full of gory murder mysteries. It has a whole dangerous intelligence vibe going for it and I love it. The book just feels Slytherin. It is smart and embodies all of the characteristics of a Slytherin; ambition, cunning and the mc is nothing if not achievement-oriented.

CARAVAL

This book is incredibly smart. There are so many twists and turns and I love it. By the time you finish reeling from one twist, there is another one. This is a really fun book full of amazing descriptions and a really smart and cunning plot lines.

Gryffindor

catsDreadnought (Nemesis, #1)   Invictus   Steelheart (Reckoners, #1)   The Golden Door (The Three Doors Trilogy #1)

DREADNOUGHT

The mc in this book has to be a Gryffindor, there’s no other explanation. Danny ends up becoming a superhero at the start of this book and in true superhero fashion, saves the world by kicking ass and taking names. She proves her bravery by standing up to certain people and fighting for what she believes in. Danny is the total embodiment of a Gryffindor and even though I usually think that Gryffindors are too headstrong, I think that Danny has her head screwed on properly most of the time.

INVICTUS

Invictus follows a crew of time travellers and if I’m honest each of them individually fits into a different Hogwarts house. But, the main, main character of the story is definitely a Gryffindor. He’s a natural born leader and he’s brave to the point of stupidity at times, which I guess you could call daring nerve.

STEELHEART

Again with the superheroes! Well, actually the “supers” are the bad guys, and instead, everyone else is living in a horrible world. So, this book trilogy focuses on the rebels who basically want to save everyone from supers. So, basically, good luck guys. They have this huge challenge in front of them and of course, they’re going to face it head-on.

THE GOLDEN DOOR

This is one of my favourite books from my childhood that I still read to this day so of course, I had to include it. That being said, it is a perfect fit for this category. The main character in this novel is a total Gryffindor, the main character in this series goes into an unknown land to save his family. This is a series full of crazy creatures, interesting plots and very brave characters. Very Gryffindor.

Hufflepuff

catsQueens of Geek   The Screaming Staircase (Lockwood & Co., #1)   A Wrinkle in Time   Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy

I also recommended some books for Hufflepuffs on my blog last year if you want more recommendations for some possible new favourite reads!

QUEENS OF GEEK

OKay, so I don’t really know where the characters in this book would categorise. But, I do know that when I read this one earlier this year it just felt Hufflepuff. It’s cute af and just made me happy while I was reading it. The characters are adorable and the plot is fun and somewhat relatable. I couldn’t recommend it enough for anyone who is super nerdy and loves YA contemporary.

LOCKWOOD & CO.

I guess you could try and tell me that Lockwood fits in with Gryffindor and honestly, I’d understand but for me, he’s a Hufflepuff. I mean does Lockwood himself not embody everything it means to be a Hufflepuff? Hard work, dedication, patience and loyalty. I mean, this guy literally started his own company and if that doesn’t display all of those qualities then I don’t know what does. I love this guy, he will do whatever he has to, to help his friends and I love that in an mc.

A WRINKLE IN TIME

A Wrinkle in Time just makes me feel happy. Whenever I pick this one up I just get that nostalgia feel, much like I do whenever I pick up The Philosopher’s Stone. This story focuses on friendship and family and if that isn’t Hufflepuff I don’t know what is.

LUMBERJANES

MORE FRIENDSHIP?? Yep! This is such a fun, feel-good adventure series which also focuses on friendship and love and I want everyone to read it. It makes my heart happy whenever I read it. It’s ridiculous and it’s fantasy but somehow because of its diversity of sexuality and race and character personality, it just feels real. I honestly love this series and I wish my library would hurry up and get the rest of the series!

Ravenclaw

catsFaithful   The Martian   My Lady Jane   Batman: Nightwalker (DC Icons, #2)

FAITHFUL

This is a recent read for me and if I’m honest I didn’t even want to read this because I thought it would totally hate it. Low and behold I loved this book! The main character isn’t your typical Ravenclaw, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t one.  The mc, Shelby has street smarts. She is also really intelligent and accepting, two big traits for Ravenclaws. But, I think that often street smarts are more important than book smarts, so I wanted to chuck some of that rep in this post!

THE MARTIAN

This book is smart. There is no other way to put it. The main character gets stranded on Mars and has to figure out how to survive, plus he’s a botanist so like??? How could he possibly survive???

I love this book so much. To me, it feels like a book a Ravenclaw would love, either to absolutely destroy because do you even science?? Or to love because hey, for once someone speaks my language!

MY LADY JANE

A book about a main character who would rather read a book than interacting with real people. I love her and would die for her. She is intelligent, she has a quick wit, she is an individual and she is very accepting. Jane is pretty much a sot on perfect Ravenclaw and I feel like more people need to pick this book up.

BATMAN: NIGHTWALKER

Unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed this book! I loved how Marie Lu wrote Bruce in this book, it really showed off the detective side of this character. You could definitely argue that he is any of the houses, except for Hufflepuff but honestly, I think his wit and intelligence is such a big part of his character that I think, without a doubt, it’s what makes him a Ravenclaw.

    1. Thank you! ❤️ I agree that Evelyn Hugo has a lot of heart, I just put it in Slytherin because that the house I thought Evelyn would mostly have been in.
