THE GOODREADS TAG

Hey guys, today I am coming at you with a book tag to really kick off the new year. Today we’re doing the Goodreads Tag, which I think is fitting as I’ve been using the site since 2014. Somehow I’ve never done the tag but I’m sure I’ll be able to update the tag every year or two in the future!

1.  WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU MARKED AS ‘READ’?

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

As I’m writing this the latest book I added to my 2018 challenge is Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire. So far 2018 has been a year of re-reads for me and I am really enjoying this way of reading.

2. WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?

I have had these books marked as ‘currently reading’ for ages (though I am actively reading something else):

The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding (The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding #1) The Time Traveler's Wife A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire, #4)

THE DREADFUL TALE OF PROSPER REDDING / THE TIME TRAVELLER’S WIFE / A FEAST FOR CROWS

Down Among the Sticks and Bones (Wayward Children, #2)

As I’m writing this (10/01/2018) I am currently listening to Down Among The Sticks and Bones by Seanan McGuire. I am trying to re-read the first two books before I get to Beneath The SUgar Sky (IF MY PREORDER EVER ARRIVES 😠 😠). So far this has been my favourite instalment of the series because of the style it’s written in and the social commentary but I haven’t read book 3 yet so hopefully I’ll love it just as much!

3. WHAT WAS THE LAST BOOK YOU MARKED AS ‘WANT TO READ’?

The last books I marked as TBR are Escaping From Houdini along with the fourth book in the same series. I love this series and recently I re-read the first two books in the Stalking Jack The Ripper series and now I finally understand what it means to just completely fall in love with a series. Honestly, I feel like this is my new Harry Potter, this is going to be the series that I read every other year and constantly recommend until you’re all sick of me.

4. WHAT BOOK DO YOU PLAN ON READING NEXT?

Beneath the Sugar Sky (Wayward Children, #3)

I definitely plan on reading Beneath The Sugar Sky next as I’m already rereading the series anyway. I love this series so I can’t wait to see what Seanan McGuire has added to the series this year.

5. DO YOU USE THE STAR RATING SYSTEM?

I do, however, I really think that we should be able to use half stars because that just makes sense, doesn’t it? It shouldn’t be a big coding issue and haven’t we GR users been complaining about this for years on end?

6. ARE YOU DOING A 2018 READING CHALLENGE?

Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman Aquaman, Volume 1 by Geoff Johns Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J.K. Rowling Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire

For 2018 I plan to read 52 books. I will, of course, include anything I read (comics, graphic novels, books) but I want to read 52 actual novels so I will be counting the books separately on a word document or in my bullet journal. If that makes any sense???

So far my reading challenge is going pretty well. I’ve read 6 books and one comic, so I’m pretty proud of my progress so far. Considering I didn’t read that many books in November and December combined in 2017. Hopefully, this means I’m finally starting to narrow down and understand what books I actually enjoy.  Spoiler: Gothic scenery, gruesome murder mysteries.

7. DO YOU HAVE A WISHLIST?

I don’t exactly know what this means, but I’m assuming it means a wishlist shelf?? Generally, if I have a wishlist I will share it on my blog here. Or, I will have a wishlist on Bookdepository because that’s just easier.

8. WHAT BOOK DO YOU PLAN TO BUY NEXT?

fridges fridges fridges fridges Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

The next books I plan on buying are Stalking Jack The Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula mainly because I am officially in love with this series and I want to be able to mark all of these up with notes and tabs!

9. DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVOURITE QUOTES? SHARE A FEW.

“A day without sunshine is like, you know, night.”  Steve Martin

“Every time I can’t tell where someone’s calling me from in a room and every time I accidentally start to put my earbuds in both ears I think about you.” Maggie Stiefvater, The Raven King

“′Classic′ – a book which people praise and don’t read.”Mark Twain

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

“It’s not denial. I’m just selective about the reality I accept.” Bill Watterson

10. WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHORS?

This isn’t totally accurate but these are some of the authors I have on my favourites list.

11. HAVE YOU JOINED ANY GROUPS?

I am part of a few groups but most of them I have turned notifications off because I am not actively joining in with the activities/readathons/ groups.

However, these are the groups I frequent most.

I used to do these every Wednesday but I stopped doing them for a while. However, I am still joined with the group because they have interesting topics.

I just joined this group today because of the discussion topics. I think it’s always interesting to hear everyone else’s povs on the series.

This group is basically T5W but just, on Tuesdays.

  1. Right now, I’m in limbo with what I’m currently reading. I’m not sure if I should start Goblet of Fire or read Beneath the Sugar Sky. Two highly-anticipated reads so it’s tough 😛

    1. I’ve yet to start BTSS because my copy only came today and it came with a roughed up book jacket and I’ve been trying to fix that. BUT, I would suggest starting with BTSS because it’s smaller and then diving into GOF because it’s HP and Goblet of Fire is where shit goes down and who doesn’t want to read that?

      1. Ooooh now you have me intrigued to read GOF and see what happens!!

I’m working 9-5 over the weekend but I plan on picking up Beneath the Sugar Sky either tomorrow after work or Sunday since I’m off Monday. I’m just excited to see what happens!!

        1. Ahh, I’m so glad I didn’t spoil anything for you! How are you liking the series so far?
BTSS just sounds so good and I”m sure it’ll be easy to read in a couple of hours after work!

          1. I’m really enjoying it so far. I’m not looking forward to an almost 700 page read, but I’m working on my Goodreads/PopSugar challenges so it’ll help with those. 🙂

Yes!!! Once I finish with the reader and watching Youtube videos, I’m going to read a little!

            1. Goblet of Fire is totally worth it! It’s really big but it really stirs up the plot and kicks everything off. I hope you do well with your PopSugar challenge!
              Good luck!

  2. Ah, right now I’m reading This Mortal Coil. I don’t know when I’ll finish it, but hopefully tomorrow? It’ll be my seventh book this year so I’m going strong! And I’m actually hoping to finally read Stalking Jack The Ripper this year, and I’m super excited! It sounds right up my alley. 😄

And I feel you about counting graphic novels but also not! I don’t know if I’ll get to any this year, but I personally don’t count them as part of my overall total. I’m competitive and want to read full-length novels. 😂

    1. Ooh, I’ve heard only good things about This Mortal Coil. It doesn’t sound like my kind of thing but the reviews I’ve seen are glowing so I might have to pick it up!
You’re doing so well this year! I have also read 7 novels, a comic and unfortunately I’ve already dnf’d a book. Though, don’t ask me which one because I know you really enjoyed it. You should totally read Stalking Jack The Ripper, I read it last year and again this year, it was just 👌👌👌. It is perfect, the main character is such a badass!

Yeah, I am big on reading GNs and comics but this year I still want to make sure I read 52 books. Because I listen to so many audiobooks I think I should be fine because of travel and I usually listen to books for readathons or while blogging. I feel your pain though, it’s hard to read big or even normal sized books when I also have an awesome GN tbr.

  3. Such a great post, you’ve got some great books included. I’m about to start ‘To Kill a Mockingbird,’ I just haven’t had the motivation after Christmas. I must get into it though and I will be keeping some of your books in mind for once I finish.👍🏻

    1. I love the Wayward series so I hope you enjoy it when you get to it! Ooh, I’ve heard amazing things about The Bear and the Nightingale so I hope you love it just as much as everyone else has!
