I read this back in October last year so why am I just now writing my review? Procrastination, probably.

It’s not often that I read a contemporary novel that I really enjoy, especially an adult novel so it’s high praise from me to say that I loved it.

The Plot

Not Another Happy Ending is a story about a young woman named Jane Lockhart. Jane is an aspiring author, she’s written the draft for her first book and is now trying to find a publisher.

She finally finds one, he publishes her book and then a year later she’s writing a new one (did I mention her last book was a best seller?) and she’s almost done and then, BAM! Writer’s block hits her!

So, like every good publisher, her publisher Tom sets out to unblock her. With her newfound success, she’s become too happy, so Tom, being the wonderful man he is, tries to make her as unhappy as possible.

My Thoughts

Not Another Happy Ending is a fun, quirky love story. It’s a fast read, you wouldn’t realise it by how long it took me to read it but it really is a book you can whip through. I would recommend it if you are in a reading slump.

The novel takes place in Glasgow which is new for me, it certainly brought something different to the story. It’s certainly different to any book that might be set in America, it has a completely different tone.

There's a movie

The Trailer | The Film

There is also a film, I definitely recommend watching it. Even if you don’t end up reading the book, the movie is a really accurate adaptation and it has a really great cast.
